Why did Microsoft even enter the console business? It seems to me that all they're doing is throwing away money. By the time they start making profit they need to spend billions for their next generation console. And in total the profit is only a fraction of the expenses.
Their gaming division has been making a profit the last 3 or 4 years. The Xbox 360 is profitable and in the black despite RROD and everything else. Count yourself educated.
2013 article "Microsoft Xbox division has lost $3 billion in 10 years". So on the whole, XBOX is still not profitable since it's inception.
http://www.neowin.net/news/report-microsofts-xbox-division-has-lost-nearly-3-billion-in-10-years
Sure, It's been profitable for a few years now with it's biggest year apparantly being 2011, but new console almost always means it will lose money it's first year or two. So the hole for the XBOX will just get deeper.
I can tell you, signing huge frivelous NFL deal, massive Halo TV deal, and Billions more on advertising seem more like "throwing the kitchen sink" at a problem than running an efficient, profitable business. Steve Balmer needs to reign these madmen (at the Xbox division) in before they destroy the company.
Their deal with AMD alone on the hardware side is reported at another $3 Billion. The overall hardware costs must be double that or more when you factor in R&D and manufacturing facilities (just talking fixed costs, not variable costs of production).
http://www.vg247.com/2013/05/27/amd-microsoft-deal-for-xbox-one-cost-over-3-billion/
Again, do the math for how many consoles they will need to sell even assuming a generous $100 profit margin (which will *NEVER* happen at launch). At this pace of spending they are virtually gauranteeing that XBone will not be profitable. But what's worse, they are putting more money at risk so that if it's not successful you won't just have your normal "console launch" losses, but you could have multi-billion write-downs on top of them. Which is basically the same thing that happened to Sony last gen.
That includes the original XBOX which lost bilions. The 360 has been profitable for years now. Not sure why you're posint something about the Xbox one since both companies spend billions for manufacturing unless you thought it was free.Their gaming division has been making a profit the last 3 or 4 years. The NFL is so far from frivelous I don't even know what to say to you. Halo TV show with Spielberg at the helm is huge as well. Advertising sure worked for the 360. I think you are greatly underestimating what Fifa and Madden do for the Xbox brand. If this little tantrum is over what I said.
Well lets just get one thing straight.
Any games I miss out on will suck... Not owning the X1 won't be great for me. However I will not support the policies that MS are imposing. If SONY does the same I will not support them either.
This has nothing to do with being a fanboy and/or brand loyalty... screw all that. The X1 looks great outside of the crap policies. If they continue to debunk rumors and change their mind on a few decisions, I will gladly add one to my gaming collection which spans EVERY gaming generation.
It would suck to miss a new Killer Instinct, however, I will not back down on my morals or how I feel as a consumer. If you want to sell out and be a robot to government and or corporations like MS who want to control every aspect of what you do on a daily basis, then that is great for you. I will not contribute to the decline of the gaming industry.
However, saying none of these are Kinect based is ignorant. Probably not all of them... no.
If they do away with the Kinect camera always on crap I would reconsider. Until then, not a chance in hell.
[QUOTE="shawn30"][QUOTE="I_can_haz"] Didn't they already spend $500 million of that on the NFL Fantasy deal?Eddie-VedderYes, but this is for exclusives. MS has the funds to do this, and don't have to sell buildings or funds or anything else to find the cash :) They had the funds this gen too and they didn't make games. It's just marketing money and timed DLC deals. You'd think Lems would have learned by now. \They gave me great games all gen long, so I learned I'm going to stay with MS until I don't like the games. So in that regard you are right. :) They mad eplenty of games and won the gen, so its all good.
I think selling 70 million units (at, what, 200-400 dollars per console?) they have the right to make consoles. Why did Microsoft even enter the console business? Here's why it's frivelous (if the reported $400,000,000 number is accurate).
It will take 7 Million XBOX Live users 1 year of non-discounted XBOX Live Gold to pay for the deal. That is if 100% of their fees go straight to the NFL and there were no other costs or expenses at all related to XBOX Live (which is obviously far from the truth). To me, that is far too large of a proportion of revenues going to just ONE deal.
To put it in context, that is 25% of the entire currently subscribed XBOX Gold userbase putting 100% of their annual fees to the NFL deal.
That's before we even discuss how much Spielberg might be getting... or whatever other brilliant marketing schemes MS might have.
Now tell me, how many additional subscribers will XBOX Live get SPECIFICALLY for this deal? I have no idea what metrics XBOX team is using, but I can only guess they are completley insane.
NFL locker room shower footage must be a "game" now. Between that and exclusive FIFA and timed COD content that half of that billion is spent already.

"$1 billion worth of gamer-centric exclusives and deals." I bet they spend $500 million of that on COD and GTV timed DLC like they did this gen. Ninja-HippoGTA timed DLC wasn't announced as Timed, and that was huge - apparantly cost 75 million which is less than 10% of 1 billion.
So getting CoD DLC one month early wont cost more ;) 500million? Nah

Compare that to GTAIV where Microsoft secured exclusive DLC and made sure it launched simultaneously, which gave people incentive to buy the Xbox version. I think the Xbox and playstation versions sold pretty much equally, so it was a big success for them :P

Lordy, I really got you angry at my response to the thread. Maybe I should just quote you from now on instead of staying on topic.
Typical lemming fanboyisms mr ninjapirate2000. As far as we know, you like many aren't even invested that much in Xbox gaming but post your opinions as a Lem anyways. This is nothing new as far as your faction. People post to argue in SW, but don't game much. I see people defending the 3DS and Vita and don't own either. I see the same for Wii U. It's going to happen with PS4 and Xbone. The actual fun they have is foruming not gaming, I get it....you even went ad hominem since you couldn't refute my message ON THE TOPIC. ;) What is the point of responding if you didn't want me to quote you? What's the point of interacting if you think you have it all figured out? Look I know you are a Lemming, and it hurts you to know I gamed more on 360 and Xbox than you have, but let go of the jealousy and understand this is a stupid PR thread. You have over 30,000 gamerscore. I have nearly quadrupled that. Needless to say, my opinion on things Xbox are actually based on my experiences and investments in the machines.
A thread you are trying to get personal in...
Before you respond, I know you are blindly burning for all things Xbox. Before you respond, I don't expect you to even buy an Xbone at launch, but I do expect you will be raging hard in the forums as if you have one when it does release.
I have the money for two Xbone's as I've had all generation to save, but if the continued anti consumer policies stay in check, I may buy less. I really hope E3 is amazing, truly, but there is nothing wrong with calling out stupid PR for any company.
That's what this entire thread is about, some stupid PR...which by the way is old. We already heard this $1 Billion $$$ bit last week.
All PR from Capcom to Sony to Konami to Nintendo to Ubisoft to Activision to EA to Pepsi to Bettie Crocker is a joke. Show me the games, and I'll stop joking around.
I love gaming, I love games...but I hate stupid marketing. I will mock Jack, Aaron, Reggie, Nelson, Kaz, it doesn't matter. I've done it many times in the past. Half these Marketing guys and gals aren't even gamers, and they get to laugh and dance when they see their stupid press releases get fanboys so angry and arguing.
Stop playing into it, stop being butthurt about whatever I'm saying, and start funnelling your anger into the anti consumer situation we have here. If you are loud enough, as some of us are that are HEAVILY INVESTED in Xbox gaming, maybe, just maybe, those suits will relent and backpedal.
I don't want to pursue this conversation because all it does is play into stupid marketing ploys. Don't you feel like a marionette posting as you did? I know I did posting this. In the grand scheme of things, you either play or you don't, but listening to these guys prattle on is a waste of time.
We've gone beyond just listening to marketing drivel, some of us are arguing FOR the stupid PR they read...don't do it. For any company. They are paid to lie, get us to buy. It's their paycheck.

I'm not saying you are wrong but I guess we will have to see. MS has popped off at the mouth several times and underdeliverd. If they drop some bombs at E3 and clear up some of the nasty rumors floating around it could very easily compete with the PS4 which is awesome. However, they have a LOT more to prove then SONY at this point... and not just in my eyes.
If they bust the door down at E3 I will be the first to admit it. At this point I am highly skeptical, but hearing news like this IS promising.
Now they just need to deliver. If ths is just CoD exclusive, FIFA exclusive, kinect based, feature based, crap... then color me uniompressed already. However if they bring THAT and drop some huge new IP's that we don't already know about? That would be awesome...

Which I have no problems with, but at least be truthful. The X1 reveal probably pushed you further, but whateves it was a terrible reveal.[QUOTE="ninjapirate2000"]

Don't forget new TV shows $$$, Movies, and Spielberg deal.
Those are all apart of the upcoming Xbone's exclusives.

Before you respond, I know you will buy 5 xbox one's on launch and buy all the launch games. Cool.

Lol, what truth? You read my words and got so angry you got personal. haha. Butthurt Lembots. Instead of the post, your resort to random personal attacks/ad Hominems. LOL.
I wrote on the subject. You quoted me all your butthurt because of this first post:
"Don't forget new TV shows $$$, Movies, and Spielberg deal.
Those are all apart of the upcoming Xbone's exclusives."
 hahaha. That post royally pissed you off, but since you couldn't refute it, you resorted to being a idiotic douche once again all in the name of plastic toy brands, haha.
Pwned.
7 edits? F*cking hell :lol:RR360DD
