since im affected by this issue (no reset email recieved since sunday) ive done some research and found out that its most probably related to my hotmail email account , my secondary gmail acc. worked without any problem which only proves that , most of the hotmail users didnt recieved any email some of themafter 30-hours while other emailproviders recieved the email within seconds. The problem is that after 24hrs the reset email expires and is useless.

Since thereis no other explanantion why the emails do not arrive to hotmail only , many of the affected hotmail users were already considering that microsoft does this on purpose. What do you think about it, is this some kind of anti-competitive strategy of ms ?

you can read the thread from the hotmail boards here : http://windowslivehelp.com/thread.aspx?threadid=4c3f5312-9d6e-4d42-87df-0d87836fc4f4&page=1

I logged into PSN, reset my password, got my email about it being changed. Got every other email from Sony too.

Yes, I do use hotmail.

but you did change your password via ps3 dont ya ? this would even support the theory since the other notfication emails from sony are being recieved but not the actual reset emails (or they come after being expired)

This has happened to me on my AOL account before, registered on a website and not gotten an email then put in a different email address and got the confirmation no problem. It's probably down to anti spam settings from that email providers website or something stupid like that.

Can't reset my password via Live/Hotmail either. Whoop, guess that means calling Sony's tech support?

Pretty much what I think of this thread.

Desmonic

but you cant deny that hotmail user arent getting reset emails from sony. the question is what would be worse ...doing it purposly (for any reason , spam filter may be one of them) or being simply incompetent enough to not recieve a email for 2 days , i know for sure that im done with using hotmail now , im already prepared for the worst case scenario -to make a new account , but i'll give it some time before doing so

It's sad how some people think video games are the only thing in this world.

They compete in video games, that's it. These are the dumbest conspiracy theories ever..

I received my password reset email through Hotmail, but it did take almost a full day for it to arrive. When I went on to PSN to reset the password they advised it could take 24 hours to get the email. My daughter did hers, and it's through Gmail, and she hasn't seen her email yet.

I think it has more to do with Sony's backlog than any email service blocking Sony's emails.

You guys do know in the real world Sony and Microsoft work together on lots of projects. The real world is not system wars.

I believe you guys are changing your passwords on your main accounts. What the TC is probably referring to are the sub accounts created that are registered under the main account. For those sub accounts, you have to get an email from Sony that will tell you how to reset those passwords.

Tell you what: have you ever tried to fit 20 people (at the same time) through a door where only 1 person at a time can actually fit? Well, now imagine what is like to have 70+ million PSN accounts ( PS3+PSP) send emails through the servers all at the same time. They likely got "stuck" with the increase in traffic.

I love these MS hivemind conspiracy theories, considering how un-hivemind MS is (case in point, buying Skype for over $8 billion even though they already have *two* in-house Skype competitors in Lync and Live Messenger, with Messenger actually being significantly more popular than Skype). Half the people working on Hotmail probably aren't even aware the Xbox exists, let alone that it's a MS product.

My hotmail recieved a change of password email (the one that notifys you that notifies you changed it, not the one where you have to click something to change it), but I never recieved the email Sony sent out to notify users of the intrusion. As long as I get the identity protection email, I'll be fine.

Just wait it out. If it doesn't arrive soon, then yes, you might wanna give Sony a call to see what's up.

id agree with your point if it wasnt only hotmail that isnt able to recieve these emails other major providers have no problem , and if there is only one hotmail "door" in your analogy , why do newer emails come through the "door" just this one fails to come after 3days! ?

and to all acusing me of making up conspiracy theories , dont take this forum too seriously , i could name the thread "Sony not sending reset E-Mails to Microsoft (hotmail) users on purpose ?" as well and it would not change my point, honestly i dont care other than from a consumer perspective that im very disappointed with both services psn and hotmail , while in the latter case i seriously consider to stop useing their service after more than a decade regardless if the emails comes or not now , its microsoft they should have the resources to be able to give the same service as the competitors , if not more thaneven to respond on their support page to concerns of their users , it just shows they dont care

Also to add to that, hotmail servers suck. Gmail is much, much, much faster. So yeah, it can take a while, but unless it takes like a week or more, you shouldn't get worried. As I said, if it does take that long DON'T CREATE A NEW ACCOUNT. Call Sony and see if they can help.

Desmonic

i appreciate your tips , but we have no sony support here , they got some kind of 3rd party support only via email and last time i sent a mail i recieved a reply after like 2 months:) , ill wait and hope for the best , its already takin 3 days its almost half a week, when i wont be able to play on friday after worki got no other choice than setup a new account to play while still trying to recover my old one , now im too busy to play anyway , just wanted to update my password asap and reply to a psn friend to a message before the outage

Lol I doubt it. I think it's true for all emails. They are just facing heavy traffic that's all. That's why the PSN was back up for a bit then back down again because of super heavy traffic. Blame the popularity not MS.

Just thought I'd mention, if you have multiple PSN accounts on your system, and one password changed right away, but the other sent an email (that you may or may not have gotten), chances are it's because the second is set up as a sub account of the first. If so, you can change the password on the sub without messing around with the emails by logging onto the master account and going to account management.

Not exactly related to the hotmail thing, but the sticky is gone and replaced with one about getting free games, and I didn't want to make a whole thread, so I thought I'd post here in case it helps anyone.

I have been on the hotmail forums all day long and every person who has asked about the issue with PSN/Hotmail have been ignored by the admins there while answering all the other non PSN threads. The slience does not look good for Microsoft who are either causing the slow/blockage of PSN E-mails or are not bothered in fixing it.
