when people write DVD9 is not big enough for games I think if anyone microsoft would of known of not to use it. Microsoft is obviously knows games still will not go pass DVD9 capacity there a software company there the best at it than anyone else.

There other companys that say DVD9 for example Liar developers says DVD9 not big enough. Well if you compress there game it would fit on a DVD9 they just have there game uncompressed.

These games prove any thing over DVD9 capacity is not needed.

    Software company, not gaming company.

While I agree DVD9 is sufficient for this gen, you mistake software for gaming, as the two are indeed seperate, and MS is still in its infancy in the gaming world.

Actually you don't even need discs to play games, you can play them right off the HDD, so the whole DVD9 vs Blu-Ray is a useless fight. I believe next gen you'll just download the games to the hard drives.

Microsoft does not make a majority of PC games, and PC games, for the most part, still come on CDs and install on the HDD.

    Next useless comparison?

Not a gaming company huh? I guess all those games release on direct X sincee the mid 90's had nothing to do with MircoSoft right?

hehe, did you deliberately mispell Lair? :) But yes, DVD9 will be fine for a long time now. Just because Blu Ray holds a lot more doesn't mean it automatically makes DVD9 useless. And although MS don't make particularly good operating systems, they've had pleanty of experience with software to know what developers want and need.

It's a linear-story JRPG, so changing disks really doesn't change much. All of the PS1 Final Fantasies were on several disks, but it never interupted the story or stopped them from being great.

Microsoft's been in gaming for over a decade. Just because they are newbies to console gaming doesn't mean they're completely ignorant about game development. And I think you underestimate how important a role experience in software platform development can play in game development, especially at the optimization stage.

Or I am saying that because thy are a software company, it does not make them experts on home console software. In the PC world, most things are still done on CD, not even DVD yet, so by trying to say that they have been in the software world (in PCs) does not imediately make them gods of video game software and the demands that gaming makes.

I am not saying the are ignorent, but it is ignorent to assume that because a company has a background in comparable fields it cannot fail in a new field. It can.

No S*** there a software company I just saying if anyone microsft would know if DVD9 is still good which it is.gamer4life85

DVD9 is still viable. But just because MS stuck with it does not make it so. Some games are already pushing the boundaries of 9 gigs. Most games out now that are less space intensive, such as DoA4, Hitman, Gears, etc are coming in at around 7 gigs, meaning there is 1.5 gigs of space left on the disc, not including copy protection space requirements.

Are intensive RPGs going to require disc-swapping? If so, then MS didn't do its homework properly this generation. There is a reason the Wii uses DVD9s but does not support HD.

why disc swapping was totally normal for the PS1 and now its brutally unnaceptable for 360? disk swapping never lowered the quality of the game it used it i would have no problem in Gears of War 2 being 2 dvd, after mission 8, swap the disk, big deal.........

if i can save 600 bucks by swapping a disk after 10 hours of gaming, im all for it

See, I don't want my adventure interrupted, since a major part of this new generation is seamless immersion.

Huge loading times used to be acceptible too, but I don't want a 360 game to take two minutes to load. Thats why I dislike the PSP.

well....going from my bed to my ps1 to change a disk after the first 30 hours of FF7 was much less of an interuption than pause the game to answer the phone constantly, going to bathroom, making a snack etc its too little of an interruption to make that much of a big deal about it

See, thats you though. I don't feel that I should have to do something to make up for the manufacture's lack of fore-sight.

Actually, now that I think about it, disc-swapping is less intrusive than having to replace my 360 all the time, since that zaps a week of gaming at a time.Â
