I agree with the above posts. When the 360 came out...HDMI technology was rather new so it might have added 50, maybe even $100 to the price of the system. It is somewhat cheaper now. Plus, it wasn't/really isn't needed to play games...and the 'original 360' is going to play games just as good as the new one will. Almost all of the benefit of the new features in the new one are going to be for IPTV and movie downloads. Anyone who currently owns a 360 that feels "backstabbed" should really ask themself 2 questions: -how many people really needed the HDMI port when it was launched, and would they have been willing to pay $100 more for it? -Is having their 360 for 1-2 years already before the launch of this new one worth $100 to them? in other words would you have 'rented' one to play the games for 2 years for $100? The reason I say this is..if you REALLY want the new one, you should still be able to sell your old one (provided you didn't abuse it) for $100 less than you paid for it (if not more) and apply those funds to a new one. The new ones shouldn't really hurt the value of the old ones too much, ad the elite will be priced even higher, and likely will be hard to get at launch (and for anyone who does research, they will realize they won't play games better than the old ones..and the old ones will even be able to be upgraded with the new hard drive).

you seem to forget one crucial point. Most people in the free world do NOT have a PC that can play games at the graphical level than the Xbox 360 can. I'd venture that a very very small PERCENTAGE of the free world has PC's that can do that.
In that case, every other major tech company is "kinda stupid" as well. Nintendo for their various versions of the DS and Gamboys, Sony for their PS1 and PS2 slim, Mac for each next generation of iPod, and many others.
Let's be honest here. Please lemming logic to the side. If people don't buy the 'elite' then MS create a flop, right? Something they use to doing, right? However if the 'elite' sells well, this will only open up the market for PS3 even more. After all PS3 still is better than the elite. As a gamer who want to upgrade to a next-gen console who have a better choice? Elite with no HD-DVD? The PS triple with blu-ray? Blu-ray can be use with games. Elite will still use DVD-9. Face it it was a sad day for MS releasing the 'elite' a lose-lose situation. I never said this before, but TLHBO.
