I've always said they'll drop the price of the 80Gb - I mean, good lord... how could they NOT at this point? I didn't expect to see a 40Gb version however.

80 gig has software emulation, which is like 70-80% and increasing with each firmware update

Why wouldnt the 40 gig have BC? It will have Software BC if it comes out, because all they did was remove the EE from the future PS3 versions. Software Emulation is done by the Cell and RSX which come with each ps3

Pardon me? No, I think that I will rather enjoy having a 400.00 PS3 with blu-ray for my bedroom, while having the one I have now in my living room. So please, spare me your crticism of what I decide to purchase for my own reasons. Who are you to try and tell complete strangers on the internet what is or is not within reason as far as their own personal purchases go? They did not get screwed, as it is only 20GB of more space we are talking about here. And beings that the PS3 allows for you to upgrade your HDD with any brand you choose without voiding your warranty, it really is not that big of an issue. As it is essentially the SAME PS3, the 80GB just has a slightly bigger HDD. No one gets screwed there, lol. And the 40GB is going to be completely new, so no one gets screwed there either.

As a matter of fact, the XBOX 360 Elite is more of a screw over than the 80GB PS3 at 499.00 ever will be. As at least it has all of the exact same features as the 60GB does, instead of including new ones that screw over early adopters, like people who bought a Premium 360 for instance.

Depends on the person - back in early 07 I don't think it was it, which is why I jusr recently got one with NGS, R6V, Oblivion and Resistance. I also use it for my Blu-Ray player - so in my case it's worth it. In others people case, it might be. So I agree somewhat with people feeling slightly ripped off - but that's the price people pay to be early adopters.

If the ps3 40 gig is really $399 then sony will wipe the floor with the 360 imo cause the premium 360 with only 20 gigs no blu-ray and hdmi cost the same price plus live cost $50 per year and the 360 breaks alot.

First of all, I own 2 360's....try figuring out WHY?

IT doesn't take a genius to figure out that the same princibles work with the PS3, and another good reason is to have 2 Blu-Ray players in the house, instead of one.

Not exactly. The software emulation on the 80GB is misleading. As I understand it, even though the 80GB doesn't have the EE chip, it does have some other necessary hardware to enable the emulation. The 40GB unit would lose that extra hardware to get to the $399 price point. This renders the software emulation unavailable.

I must be a moron cause I will buy a 2nd one as well cause I like blu-ray movies and the ps3 is a cheap htpc (with linux installed) that plays everything and surfs the web in a small package.

with all do respect, thats $400 that could be spent elsewhere. $400 for the rare occasion of watching a movie in your bed room as opposed to your home theater lving room (i'm assuming), sounds silly. Why not just add a different console to the collection?

Well, for one, I already have a 360, and do not particularly want a Wii. And no offense, but I quite honestly do not care if you think it is silly or not. I would not buy another one if I was not going to use it. I do not like having to move my PS3 back and forth from my living room to my bedroom everytime I want to use it in the room that it is not in....which is fairly often actually.

What I find to be quite silly, is the fact that complete strangers on the internet are trying to tell me what is and is not feasable for me to buy. Just because having 2 is not feasable for you, it does not make it unreasonable or "silly" for someone else to.....especially if they want it, plan to use it, and can afford it.

I mean here is my opinion. A lot of people on system wars claim MS rushed the 360. Which I can agree with, because of some of the hardware issues that have occured proves that statement.How can anyone not say the same for Sony? I mean lets look at what has happened in the past month. They make this new PS3 that has 2 SKUs, one has a significate difference in hard drive space, and other features. They take out the one that cost less because they are not making any sales with it. Then over time they notice they are not making anysales with 60gb model. So at E3 they announce a price cut for the 60gb model that is going to be discontinued. So basically clearing the shelves to make wayfor anew model. Then they replace it with a newer model that is going to be the SAME exact price as it was before except it is 20GB more. Then, since then there have been nothing but more rumours coming from their camp about making a newer version that is cheaper. Now if that doesn't seem like a company that is in absolute shambles on what the hell to do, then I dont what is. To me this is a sign that Sony is really having a hard time with the PS3, and they did not plan well at all. So if you people want to talk about MS, and being rushed. Look at what Sonydoes. Doesanything that they are doing or planning make any sense right now? Think about it.
