according to this article micro is going to make a bid for take 2 studios. Why cant microsoft just concentrate on making their own games instead of trying to buy everybody up like EA?

I really wish MS would just work with what they have a pump out some good internal games for once. If they don't get their act together they're going to be caught with their pants down next gen.

Lollerskates at some of the responses here. Do you guys honestly think Sony, Nintendo, Activision Blizzard, Capcom, Konami, Stardock, Ubisoft, THQ and any other publisher I failed to mention *haven't* at the very least least discussed purchasing Take-2? Rockstar alone will give them an ROI more than worth the price of admission, the only reason everyone in the industry and their dog haven't made a bid for Take-2 is the price tag.

Sony purchased Naugthy Dog and other devs in the past

Nintendo eventually bought shares in Rare back in the day.....which yes they sold years later.

Everybodoy does it....Quite frankly If Microsoft can atleast take away Irrational Games and Starbreeze studios I am happy.

Rockstar might come with too big of a price tag to pick up....because GTA=HEAD CASH COW among CASH COWS.

Thery are ALOT like EA. Instead of coming up with cool stuff on their own, they have resorted to trying to buy out the competition, similar to EA's entire business plan. They are both attempting as much of a monopoly as they can get.

ms is doing a good job of getting 3rd parties to make their games multiplat, but at the same i gotta give sony credit for not worrying about games going multiplat and focusing more time and resources to the first and second party devs.

1) Want to talk about understanding language? For a person who is so fixed on language and grammer, I'd expect you to know how to spell acronyms...

2) I stand by my statement. This is all speculation and not fact.

3) You start a topic that sounds interesting, and the worst you do is bring nothing to the table...in reference to Reggie Fils Aim...

the problem is that they are.....they just don't have that many

Turn 10 allready did Forza
Lionhead has been on Fable
Rare has made 3 games allready with 2 on the way this year. 5 games in a 3 year span.
Ensemblem is working on Halo Wars

and i don't know there other studios to be quite honest.

Bungie is Independant. but they are working on stuff for Microsoft
Silicon Knights is working on Too Human....maybe Microsoft will finally pick them up
Mistwalker is Independant. but they seem to be loyal to 360 brand. and are working on Cry On as of now
Remedy is working on Alan Wake....Microsoft should pick them up.

The thing is Microsoft hasn't bought the studios that got them far.

Bizzare made a big franchise for them in PGR and they let Activision take them

50 million was spent on GTA exclusive content, and 1 billion was spent on RROD repairs. And they didn't once think about picking up Bioware......

Microsoft needs to pick up some studios to add to there 1st/2nd party team.

Itagaki should have been an instant pick up by Microsoft IMO

Epic, SIlicon Knights, and Remedy should all be considered and be talked to about....

and quite frankly they should obviousaly consider a big brand like Take 2.

Which owns a good sports game division
Rockstar
Irrational Games and Bioshock.

they are publishers and what has Sony made?

on its own

not some dev they bought. They aren't nintendo or anything.

LEvel 5 made Dark Cloud and Dark Cloud 2
Santa Monica and David Jaffe made God of War and God of War 2(well that was Cory Barlog)
Naughty Dog a dev they bought made Jak and Uncharted.

Insomniac an independant dev makes Resistance and Ratchet
Guerilla Games is making Killzone 2 with that big budget
SOE is probably the only big inhouse dev they have
Polyphony Digital as well i guess.

Microsoft just needs to get some big studios in to be honest to build upon and creat a worth 1st party.

SOnys 1st party didn't get productive until last gen, for PS1 they were mostly saved by 3rd party.

Consolidation isn't a good thing. Look what happened to Activision- Sierra(Blizzard). It may have saved the shareholders and execs but some good games might get cancelled and jobs lost.

also what is with the EA hate all the time. They are a 3rd party publisher how come they can't pick up studios? and Activision or somebody can?

I hate it when EA picks up Ubisoft which in itself is a big publisher.

EA as a publisher is awesome and funds some amazing projects like

Mirrors Edge
Crysis
Dead Space
Spore
Left 4 Dead
The Orange Box(probably future Half Life games as well)
Burnout
Boom Blox(brand new and interesting IP for the Wii).

EA gets too much hate to be honest....the way they do business with the sports division sure...that deserves flack

but gaming in general, EA is very, very good.

Are you honestly comparing Guerilla and Zipper and the others that Sony bought to Take 2? Most of the studios sony purchased were making games for them anyway.

And Take-Two hasn't been making games for the Xbox 360? Damn, I guess neither Bioshock, nor GTA IV exist anymore.

It doesn't make a difference what developers are mentioned in this conversation. The developers under Sony's umbrella didn't magically appear in Sony's roster, Sony bought them.

The difference with those situations is that those developers cut their teeth with building intilectual properties for Sony. EA and MS are just outright buying i.p.'s and would be keeping them from gamers who didn't want to buy a MS console.

Third party exclusives are going to be too rare next gen for all 3 not to shift their main focus to their internal studios. It's kind of sad but hey, it's the way it looks to be going.

 Yeah, the companies buying big name developers/publishers is really a bad thing. It promotes the industry shrinking. Some games and studios have to go multiplat to keep things flowing for us.

Here's a list of 3rd party developers that have created (quality) new IPs that were published by Microsoft:

Bioware (Jade Empire, Mass Effect)
Epic (Gears of War)
Silicon Knights (Too Human)
Bizzare Creations (PGR, Geometry Wars)
Mistwalker (Lost Oddysey)
DICE (Rallisport Challenge)
Gas Powered Games (Dungeon Siege)
Bige Huge Games (Rise of Nations)
Day 1 (MechAssault)
Team Ninja (Ninja Gaiden, DoA)
Realtime Worlds (Crackdown)

Keeping IPs from gamers that didn't want to buy an MS console? Not MS's problem. If Sony or Nintendo was in the position to purchase Take-Two, I'm sure they wouldn't care either. Why do you think these companies try so hard to secure exclusives in the first place? So you have no other choice but to buy their console to experience them.

Sony does what's best for $$$

Nintendo does what is best for Soccer Mom's and Grandma and Grandpa

hahhahahah this is just funny........
well this is how i see it

microsoft= does was best for them they dont give a crap about their costomers why i think that way well they released 1 year earlier a console with problems....... ooo and over price b/c the 360 cost of production is around 150 dollars...

sony= well sony cares a little more in my opinion again my OPiNION why FREE internet even tho is not the best internet in the world but they could make a lot of money out of it.. and sony is selling the ps3 for less money then the cost of production.....

I read an article a while back, it might have been at the time when the EA/Take 2 speculations and bids began. It was about MS and why they choose not to buy too many or too large game studios. On contrary to what people may believe it is not such good buisness buying everyone. It is more cost effective to do what MS is doing now, simply working with other studios.

according to this article micro is going to make a bid for take 2 studios. Why cant microsoft just concentrate on making their own games instead of trying to buy everybody up like EA?

[QUOTE="Couth_"]Microsoft is nothing like EA reallyheadninjadog

Thery are ALOT like EA. Instead of coming up with cool stuff on their own, they have resorted to trying to buy out the competition, similar to EA's entire business plan. They are both attempting as much of a monopoly as they can get.

Oh I see.

It's bad when MS tries to buy Take-Two...

But it's good when Sony buys Guerilla, Zipper interactive and many more developers to increase the number of first party studios.

Wait a minute...

The difference with those situations is that those developers cut their teeth with building intilectual properties for Sony. EA and MS are just outright buying i.p.'s and would be keeping them from gamers who didn't want to buy a MS console.

and sony bought studios and forbid their studios to continue creating games from some of their less profitable ips, how does this make it better?

I brought this up in a similer thread as food for thought. What if, MS bought out the rights to the NFL after it expires from EA and then gives it to 2K? That would mean the next Xbox and 360 would get innovative, exclusive NFL games. US sales would skyrocket...

You'll end up like nintendo if you did that. Why must MS "make" their own games? MS have always been publishers.

Except Naughty Dog and Insomniac both sold Crash Bandicoot and Spyro...so Sony didn't aquire any of those rights, they bought them in able to create new IPs like Ratchet and Clank and Jak and Daxter

Where did I mention Naughty Dog or Insomniac or either of those games? Sony doesn't even own Insomniac, they operate second party, like Rare was to Nintendo.

And hold on, Sony didn't inherit the Killzone IP when they bought Guerilla? They didn't inherit the SOCOM IP when they bought Zipper Interactive? Oh wait, they did.

And was there ever a Killzone or Socom game on any system other than a playstation before sony bought them? oh wait, no.

I really dont understand this criticism. How are they buying everyone up? Where is the sense in that comment? They let loads of studios go this year like Bizarre Creations and Bungie. They already had fewer studios than sony, they let go some to make it even fewer, but if they try to aquire more it's evil microsoft buying everyone up?
