Surprised it took this long.

LINK

Probably not a good move on their part as the defendants will likely have far more money than Microsoft.

Microsoft counters that it is a matter of principle."We live in a world where we honor, and support the honoring of, intellectual property," says Ballmer in an interview. FOSS patrons are going to have to "play by the same rules as the rest of the business," he insists. "What's fair is fair."

This coming from the same company that have been suid for billions by the EU for haing a Monopoly market

And like MS has never copied anyone but i guess thats okay so long tey have 1000 lawyers that can cover their azes

Wow this is bull crap... seriously...

I hope MS looses lots and lots of money on this then loses the case, seriously...  I mean, I'm using windows, i payed for it with my computer, awesome, but I want the F'in option to download linux or mozilla if I feel like using them (well, I do use mozilla, IE 7 blows)... I've never really thought MS was a great (or... remotely good) company.. but.. this is rediculus...

Ms is the last company to respect the intellectual property of anybody but even if linux did infringe on some patents linux is free unlike windoze bloatware with massive security problems.

Linux may be free, but that doesn't give them the right to take patents. Especiall,y when they're the competition.

And MS never steals from anyone , and it has already been in breach of monopolistic practice.

I lost track of how many times by how many endusers, companies and governments m$ has been sued by for this same problem and everybody know windoze is overpriced. My friend bought vista lol and it cost over 100 pounds but does not work and crashes. M$ is charging big money for vista and he even had to call to register the bloody thing wtf is wrong with people linux is free. If they did nick a few patents unlike m$ they are not trying to make money or tell you how to use your pc.

Nope no mention of IBM supporting MS decision. And like I said IBM is a massive supporter of Linux, I hope they wring the disgusting practices of MS through the courts.

Capitalism gone mad is what's wrong with MS.

Your right. They've been taken to court before. Ms had it coming.

OpenOffice is in breach of patent. Linux is not. If free unlicensed software can create Microsoft Office Documents, its in breach of patent. That's pretty easy to see.

All the makers of OpenOffice have to do, is remove that functionality, and some of the Excel/PPT features ripped straight out of Microsofts UI, and they'll be set.

OpenOffice is a poor substitute to MS Office anyway. IMO.
