Microsoft Q3 Earnings Release (04/24), Xbox 360 Sells 19 Million

Results for the Fiscal Quarter Ended March 31, 2007.

Revenue: $14.45B
Operating Income: $ 4.41B
Net Income: $4.39B

Entertainment and Devices revenue for the quarter grew 68% over the comparable period last year driven by robust demand for Xbox 360 consoles. Cumulative console sales surpassed 19 million during the quarter, up 74% from a year ago. Server and Tools revenue growth of 18% added to its string of consecutive double-digit revenue growth quarters, which now stands at 23.

An improvement over first quarter last year, but a huge drop from the previous two quarters. This will be an interesting year for X360.

Good for the Entertainment and Devices Division of Microsoft, they been making a profit for afew quaters.

Now that isn't true, they did sell five 360s in Japan, and may have a sixth console sold soon :D

Q2 and Q3 could be called flukes, as Q2 had Halo 3 and Q3 was Christmas, and even though the month of Jan and somewhat Feb had shortages, it was still enough to again, make them earn a profit. As the install base increases steadily, and software sales get stronger, MSs investment in 360 is looking more and more worth it. And yes Fiscal 08 (April 07 to March 08) was a profitable year

I think you are mixing numbers up. The Electronics divsion profit was $89 million, the big part of their profits came from their Client division which was $3.1 billion all by itself.

Still 360 not doing bad. I'm sure they well do better then the X-Box did.

You have to scroll down and look at the breakout of the divisions. Look at the chart labeled "Operating Income/Loss." It's on that chart under Entertainment and Devices.

That depends on what you mean by back up. If you mean developer support you could be right, if you mean sales no. The US game sector makes 3 times as much as Japan does in a year, and this last year has grown about 50% compared to 10% in Japan.

..And have such a massive fascination with some of the most bizarre games out there. Oh well the system caters to my tastes perfectly which is all that matters. It also has a great install base which ensures I will be buying games for it for a few more years to come.

Um MS isnt like Sony, they dont announce games three or four years in advance. Sony pretty much announced every big PS3 exclusive at E3 05, many of which werent even in development at the time. Remember how sparce 08 looked this time last year? Noy 08 looks to be better then 07 exclusives wise. (Banjo, Fable2, NG2, GeoW2, Too Human > Halo 3 and Forza)
