Microsoft should switch their discs to a blu-ray like disc (or blu-ray).

My father owns a video store and every week another 360 game becomes defective because of scratches, in all the time he has had ps3 games (since launch), not one is broken, the disc is so prown to scrathes, the only way to do it is to really mess it up. All I am saying here is that microsoft should switch to something like them, it would make the games last longer. On the other hand, they're smart for making crappy discs, as people keep buying new discs of the same game, like me .

Edit: I have added a poll to compare results of broken discs on both systems.

Edit: Incorrect Grammar on poll, should be have you ever had a disc become defective?

Only disc i've ever had a problem with was the Halo 3 Limited Edition, and that was because of poor packaging. I took it back and Best Buy let me open a new one until i found one without scratches :D

The only way your discs can get scratched is if you move your 360 from lying down to standing up and vice versa while the disc is in your 360 and it is on.

They should, but not now... The speed of bluray need a clear boost to give it a real advantage over dvd. The majority of the dev still don't use more than a dvd anyway.

For years we did without blu-ray and scratched discs weren't really a problem. Now, if you believe the posts here in SW, if it isn't a blu-ray disc, it will get scratched. Just take care of your stuff.

Blu-ray is not needed in this generation of consoles and will probably play a much more crucial role in the next generation. We have seen that most games can easily fit on one DVD disc. Plus Blu-ray has had its share of problems preventing it from truly shining in the generation that introduced high-def from the beginning.

They will probably begin using them next-generation, by the time when 25GB-50GB discs are going to be a necessity.

They should so they can take advantage of the disk space and it wouldn't matter if it's a Sony product because they use the DVD which Sony help make.

Yes and the hardware that runs them isn't prone to scratching them...

It's not a disc problem.

So true, the only thing that can truyl be complained about are hardware errors like the RRoD, generally 9 times out of 10 anything else is down to human error, like "OMG my console is on fire because i put a cigar inside the disk tray, WTF Microsoft!!!"

By this post then you would be happy with the old 5.25 disc from years ago. The thing is without storage advances that's where we would be now. Just give Blu-Ray time for developers to learn to use it's space in a way that's more efficent than they are now.

If you frequently need to replace discs because they're so scratched up you're doing something very wrong.

In the many years I've played games, I have only once had one disc fail to read because of scratches (and it was one of my PS2 games that I bought used).

At this point in the game, it would be suicide for MS to switch to a new disc format. If 360 gets blu ray, it will be a add-on most likely that is used only for movies. Next-gen will have a Blu Ray drive in it most likely though. Unless MS decides to go more of a download style service for their next system.

As for disc scratching, if you take care of you discs than they won't get scratched. I had a friend who used to just leave his PS2 discs on his carpet. After looking at them when I was hanging out with him one day, it looked like someone had used the discs to sharpen knives on.

Also I've heard that keeping the 360 horizontal as opposed to vertical will keep discs from getting scratched as well as not moving the system while there is a disc in it. The problem is, is that a majority of 360 owners are irrisponsible with their systems and their discs, and things only get worse if kids are added in the equation. A child is less likely to know the proper way to take care of their systems or discs.

I have original two sided DVDs from when they first came out, and they still work. It's not the media as much as the hardware. I don't dare play my movies in the 360.

Brainkiller05

Blu-rays are scratch resistant...

That doesn't make them impervious. The 360 has been none to scratch discs due to faulty hardware and through time and abuse the blu-ray disc will also scratch. I work in the plastics coating industry and to my knowledge, there is not a coating that is impervious to scratching.

Out of necessity. Data on a blu-ray disc is stored much closer to the surface, making them more susceptible to permanent damage than DVD. (without the coating that is)

Isn't there a rumor that microsoft is going to release a blue-ray equipped Xbox 360? Can someone post a link to this rumor?
