In 2011 or 2012 when the next gen starts (maybe 2010) microsoft should just use the cell for its processor.

1. By then the develops will know how to develop for it (finally)

2. be really cheap to make by then

3. if it said to be yrs ahead of its time this gen, then by next gen it will be good for next gen

4. with it so cheap microsoft can put in a really good gpu and put its ram to 1gb(atleast) without drastically increasing the price of the console.

anyone else think this would be a really good idea?

I think they'll have better CPU's by then. Besides I don't think MS wants to cure cancer, I think they'd rather use it for games.

I'm not sure but I think IBM owns it. I think Sony contributed but again I'm not sure.

Sony should use a more advanced Cell but MS using it would be just stupid. Xbox's whole success is based around it being a PC in a box and easy to make PC/360 games for.

or they could use something faster that's easier to use for devs

the most high profile use of the cell resulted in failure (PS3)

MS should just use quad core processors next gen. By then they'll be dirt cheap and, like the current CPU in the 360, devs will already now how to code for it having all the practice making PC games, thus giving us better games with shorter development cycles.

No, in fact I think the next Xbox should use a CPU with an architecture very similar to the 360, just faster with more cores so there will be little learning curve for devs to waste money learning new hardware. After all, I already hear plenty of complaints that current gen titles are too expensive and time-consuming to create as is, imagine next gen when the bar is raised even higher (that is unless next-gen just churns out a bunch of Wii clones).

Why bother when MScan just put in a more easy to use but vastly superior CPU instead Next Gen.?

Next xbox? No. Next PS? Maybe. Imagine the PS4 having a 45nm twelve-blade cell server on its motherboard. By next gen, the cell would be no more complicated than a calculator. Also, the cell is designed to be a system that's upgradable simply by adding more cell processors. also assume they would be non-gimped cells, with 7 gaming SPEs and RAM access by SPEs.

According to devs, the two systems are pretty much the same, power wise. With the 360 trading off pure processor power for more memory.

I think MS should just use the next generation in multi-core processors. The cell doesn't make that much difference in the end.

the cell is from the future

it's so advanced we'll unlock it's potential 300 years from now
