How did I miss this?!? Or did Gamespot (my news source) not talk about it?

XBL integration on their new Windows 7 Phones (which I DID know about), and:

50 games at launch, including Halo: Waypoint & Crackdown 2: Project Sunburst.

Ability to change avatars, check gamerscore, and earn achievements on the device.

What does system wars think about it's chances. I must say, Project Gotham Ferrari Edition on the Zune HD has great motion controls. Free game could have easily been $30 or more.

Halo Waypoint is just a way to check your Halo stats and check up on new Halo info.. Not new either.

Those 50 games are probably really similar to iphone games, it's not like the rumored PSP phone where you get buttons/analogue.

Thanks for the Halo game info. I was wondering about that one especially. Also, here is another link: http://www.engadget.com/2010/08/16/xbox-live-launch-titles-for-windows-phone-7-finally-revealed-we/ All in all, I am impressed (as was engadget). It also seems to show why MS has been quiet on the 360 game front, with Windows 7 phones and Kinect taking up so much of their time.

It's not any different than iPhone gaming. Windows Mobile 7 is out there to combat Android and iOS, not to establish a foothold in the gaming market. The PSP phone however, is out there to kill iPhone, Android, and (future) Windows Mobile 7 gaming.

They are spreading themselves too thin, I'm surprised they are still pushing Windows mobile after the Kin flop.

I don't know how good the best iPhone games are (I only played a couple cheap ones), but Project Gotham on the Zune HD is better than any racer I have played on my PSP (though the reviews made me not buy GT on it. Tempted though, when Game Crazy went out of business near me).

Do we know if the PSP phone is real? I admit, I do love my PSP. Though I don't think Sony is good at creating a platform that other manufacturers adopt. To do this right, Sony needs to sell a ton themselves, like Apple, or have everyone making hardware for it, like Google. Both ways will be really hard.

That explains the lack of 360 support.

"The launch lineup include casual titles like Bejeweled, Uno, Game Chest, and CarneyVale: Showtime. " Serious gaming platform, this is not.

People who want a smartphone: iPhone, Android phone.

People who want a portable console: DS, PSP, 3DS.

Ergo, I don't see the point in trying to gear Phone 7 towards gaming.

My problem with your theory, I think iPhone sucks and based on having recently bought a Zune HD I think it could easily translate into a phone. Plus, with Apples mindshare taking a hit recently, another company could easily jump in. And of course, those smartphone are going to go after those portable consoles hard soon. It's just a matter of time. In fact, I bet sony positions itself as more of a smartphone and less of a console next time.

The thing that interests me the most is that its getting basically the whole xbla library which means its getting some seriously good games. Its also apparantly very easy to get an xbla game working on both the 360 and phone, meaning a lot of potential future support.

Plus between the android and iphone, its the only one with 1st party game support? Though it is microsoft, so thats not saying much :P

Im happy with my iTouch for the time being though, unless we get a proper portable halo or something in which case ill be all over it like a rash.

If Apple's mindshare is going to anywhere it's going to Android, which is why if Sony does produce a gaming phone a strategic partnership with Google is clever.

Frankly, what I've read about Phone 7 makes it seem like it's destined for failure.

Yeah, I basically agree (I'll just ignore your first-party-MS bash. ;) ) I also like how they said every game will have a demo, just like it's console cousin.

I agree, Android is already taking over Apple. Which is exactly my point of why MS can step into that space you mentioned earlier. But, what exactly have you read that screams failure? I see nothing of the sort. It's OS is similar to the Zune HD, which reviewed very good versus the ipod touch. Beat them in many categories. It's tied to XBOX live, it's launching with a nice number of apps, and dev's are on board already. What's not to like?

I don't mean failure in terms of gaming. I mean fail as the OS of choice for smartphone users - MS are moving too slow in a very fast industry, where Apple and Google are already locking in the market.

Consequently though there is no point to develop games for a platform that doesn't penetrate the market well, so I can see it failing as a mobile gaming platform too.

That line up of Games is laughable compared to the 3DS's lineup.

Max and the Magic Marker is cool though.
