Microsoft to buy Square Enix??? God help Sony...for no one else can....

We are witnessing the end of the Playstation era, its' collapsing before our very eyes, crumbling into dust and into the wind lost to the echoes of time

The time has come, what Sony always fear, Microsoft actually taking gaming seriously and not a side project. Sony only exist because of Playstation and Playstation only existed because Microsoft allowed them to exist...now we witness the end....

I hope they do. I'll get to play all of their games at their best for free on PC GP.

On a serious note.......I'll go on record right now. IDGAF about Square-Enix. Final Fantasy hasn't been a blip on the gaming zeitgeist's radar since Final Fantasy 10. There hasn't been a good Final Fantasy in almost 20 years, or post-Square's merger with Enix.

As an Xbox fan, let me be clear........I DO NOT WANT THIS. I would rather MS go for Sega. Much more brand synergy with Xbox, and they've actually been the biggest Japanese publisher to support Xbox with exclusive content. They are far more aligned with Xbox as a brand, than Square Enix.

That said, I wouldnt mind if MS scooped up Crystal Dynamics and Eidos Montreal, and left the rest of that trash for someone else.

As for the topic, it is bad news if MS purchases Square Enix. It is also bad news if Sony purchases Square Enix. No one should be pushing or wanting this but it is what it is. 🤷‍♀️

Microsoft's about to turn alot of Cows into "PC Gamers" this gen.

Before going wild with speculation, it should be noted the article doesn't mention any names. The tweeter even suggests this sounds more like a Sony or Tencent thing.

I think the Japanese laws eliminates potential buyers like MS, Tencent and other non-Japanese corporations.

Square enix literally released 2 critically acclaimed FF games in FF7R and FF14 Shadowbringer. Shadowbringer especially is absolutely the best written FF story ever told, you can play it solo too ofcourse. Also 25m users and most or 2nd most subscribed MMO ever is more than a blip.

@sakaixx: He called Final Fantasy irrelevant and then suggested Sega would be a better purchase. Best not to take him seriously. Sega's biggest games struggle to sell 2 million copies.

Mainline Final Fantasies. Of course its my opinion, but Final Fantasy has been trash since it stopped being turn based. And I haven't touched an MMO since my WoW and Runescape days, and that was like 2009.

MS won't be a potential buyer personally.

FF7R, FF11, FF12 and FF14 is mainline and critically acclaimed. You probably just outgrown the series.

Luckily Square still makes PS1 like jrpg like I am Setsuna, Bravely Default and Octopath Traveler and upcoming sequel to highly acclaimed The World Ends With You.

Meh I didn't see this thread and made one. But honestly I think Sony is the most likely buyer. Don't you find it off that the FF7 remake exclusive deal is up and its still not announced for Xbox?

Sony has 45 billion in cash and SE is worth just under 7 billion.

@silentchief: square enix business is pretty diversified. They have manga and arcade business that is pretty successful especially the manga side. They probably valued at least $11b, really can't see them lower than Zenimax.

I'm in it just to see the reaction of the losing side fanboys if either Sony or Microsoft end up buying Square Enix. Overnight, they'll go from idolizing Square Enix to hating them. 😂

It would make more sense for Sony to buy them but I'm hoping Microsoft steps in just for the meltdowns.

Their best game FFXIV isn't even on xbox. I'm pretty sure SE isnt too fond of MS blocking their game behind another paywall, on top of what SE already charges per month.

i didnt see it mention MS as a potential buyer. though if they somehow did, i may consider buying xbox due to ff and dragon quest. but the post above me axed this thread so move along guys.

If I understand this, Xbox rewards works for buying digital items such as games and DLC. The more you buy the more you are rewarded? (They have missions that can be completed for credits) Knowing NathanDrake, I don't see him doing anything good for MS as he's more of a Sony fanboy so yeah.
