Microsoft: US market is already decided

Microsoft's European VP for interactive entertainment, Chris Lewis, has said the battle between the PS3 and 360 in the US is over, with the company now focusing its attention on Europe

When asked if the battle between the PS3 and the 360 was now decided in the US, Lewis said Microsoft has "done the job we need to in North America", and that the company would focus more effort on increasing the 360's lead over the PS3 in Europe.

I agree. PS3 can never catch 360 in NA. probably even in worldwide sales, PS3 will never catch up to the 360 this gen. what say you guys?

already decided....for the wii anyways, sony needs a price cut right now, it has the software, has the hardware, just needs a good price dop It won't surpass the 360, but it will get very close to itGiancar

I agree with you, I'd get a ps3 if it was less expensive- but can they really afford to do it right now? I mean, does anyone know how much money goes in the making of each console? (if anyone does I'd like to know) cause I don't think you can risk a price drop if you can't cover manufacturing costs.

Also- Sony should include an hdmi cable with every ps3- it's a shame a console designed for HD comes without.

The PS3 can catch up but they need a price drop..Microsoft 360 is not destroying the PS3 they are only 6 million ahead of their rival..Its to early to say they won NA..The only way i agree with them is if the PS3 is 299 and if its still being outsell by the 360. Ill gladly accept defeat but right now the PS3 is manage to sell just good even with a high price tag..

the title seems misleading because when he said the job is done...he could mean that their job was to increase their marketshare(which they did) not that ps3 wont catch up to xbox.

Well, M$ will have to make a real big effort, cause Europeans REALLY DO NOT TOLERATE unreliable hardware. 8)

Speaking exclusively to 360, Microsoft EMEA's VP for Interactive Entertainment Business Chris Lewis admitted that the new emphasis on this region is because Microsoft considers the Japanese and North American regions as more or less decided between Xbox 360 and PS3.

"If you were to put it that perhaps we feel we've done the job we need to do in North America and that Europe is more on the cusp relative to the North American market in terms of our position versus the competition, then I think that's a fair assessment," he told us.

"Europe is incredibly important as a geography for us in line with our worldwide ambition and really the battle is still raging in the US."

While the console war has yet to be definitively won in any region it remains clear that only extraordinary circumstances could wrestle dominance of North America from the Xbox 360 or take Japan away from the PS3. That is why Europe is now so important, with much closer hardware sales figures and the balance of power shifting from week to week.

funny how they diss sony for PS3 being 3rd place, yet 360 is the 3rd most popular console in NA with DS, and Wii being ahead of it

yeah anyone with a business degree, common sense or knows the market will tell you that the us market has not been decided. first of all ms is being cocky as hell to say this and this will bit them in the a$$. yes ms does sell more than the ps3 but its half the price of the ps3. we all know if sony price drops sales will rise. common sense. plus ms is not that too far ahead to actually say this. if the gap was 10-20 million and continuing to rise then i could understand, but ww isn't the 360 8 million ahead? lets just break this up and say that the 360 is 4 million ahead in the us. anyone can pass ms, that number is very passable. i call bs on ms.sireclaborn
