Microsoft Microsoft corporate vice president Phil Harrison says that the upcoming next-generation Xbox One console is expected to have decade-long lifecycle. The Xbox One's launch on November 22 will commence the platform's "more than 10-year journey," Harrison said today during his Eurogamer Expo keynote address. Through features and services - including the cloud, Microsoft plans to support the Xbox One for more than a decade, Harrison said. Microsoft said earlier in the year that its current generation Xbox 360 console will be supported for another three years. That system launched in late 2005. Harrison also reiterated that Microsoft has 300,000 dedicated servers for the Xbox One to support features like multiplayer and various networking services, as well as for cloud processing and artificial intelligence.

When i said that the Fable mmo would run for 10 years implying that the X1 would run for 10 years people called me crazy! AHAHAHAHAHA! But this should be expected. This may very well be the last console generation and they are off to a great start just like the 360. I expect some updates for both main primary consoles to increase their graphical output and that's about it. 10 years from now I see us finally being right next to CGi.

I'm sure they'll keep the system in production for 10 years like they're planning to do with the 360. However, considering the 360's 1st Party support is one HD remaster away from dead 8 years in, it won't be full support like Sony does.

Sony is the only console manufacturer that supports their system for a few years after their next system has released, while support from MS and Nintendo dries up a few years before the launch of their next system. Hats off to Sony.

Yeah, Sony supported the PS3 for it's first 3 years. Did you not follow it?

Except they did not. The game output was the lowest of their 4 consoles(including the PSP) and had a terrible rate of attachment. Sony has never had a good first year launch (3 years of bad PS3 years aside) this looks no different.

What do sales have to do with Sony actually supporting the PS3 with game releases? Nothing. 2006-2009. PS3 had Heavenly Sword, Killzone, Motorstorm, Ratchet & Clank, Resistance, Siren, Uncharted and that's off the top of my head.

Which is almost a 3rd of Sony's usual output, half of them has meh reviews, and they had low attach rates. Releasing games and SUPPORTING with releases are two different things. I have no problem saying from 2011-now the Xbox has bit a bit stingy outside of Live (which is something at least) but I see no reason to deny the lack luster 3 years of the PS3.

They'd be the first, but I doubt it.

Any time any console maker has come out and said they'd support a platform after the successor's launch, it doesn't amount to anything much.

Nah.. they're still supporting the XBox 360. Over 100 games being released for it over the next year. That's more then what the Wii U will get, that's for sure.

I wouldn't take any of that seriously. Markets change. No company can logically say what 10 years down the road will bring. But it's a good advertising tool I think.....

Yes they did. They still support and will beyond the point they need to. Thats why the PS2 still had a couple games released for it this year and you can still buy them , you can still buy new psp systems and they still have games coming out for it. The PS4 is on the horizon and sony is still releasing big named games for the PS3.

And yes, people forget about the first xbox for a reason. It was a poor mans ps2 that would have gone under if not for halo.

And microsoft will support xb1 for 10 years, support as in continue to sell the systems and periphals. But microsoft hasnt done shit for the 360 in the past year or two really.

Microsoft said the same thing about the xbox, and they said the exact same thing about the xbox 360 Im tired of Microsoft's PR bullshit. Actions speak louder than words. Sony actually proved it by supporting the PS3 in its last year with its biggest year ever Meanwhile, when is the last time the 360 just even had an exclusive that wasnt a Gears/Halo/Forza sequel lol. Exactly. You would have to go back more than half a decade lol The 360 has had one of the worst and most pathetic exclusive libraries in console history (just boring shallow repetitive yearly sequels of Gears/Halo/Forza/Gears/Halo/Forza etc) The 360 has pretty much been dead in the water for several years now. If there is one thing we have learned by now, its that you can NEVER trust Microsoft. Remember, Microsoft is also the same mega shady corp who tried to take away our consumer rights...Microsoft only pulled the plug at the last second because they were losing pre order sales. Never forget that. Microsoft is the worst of the big 3 by far....I will NEVER support Microsoft or give them a dime of my money. FUK you Microsoft Its PS4 all the way. The PS4 was made with gamers in mind from the start by Sony. It does everything better for less. 50% more powerful 100$ cheaper etc...Sony has awlays proven to support their consoles much longer....and i can keep going on and on etc If you are a real gamer take a stand and support Sony who supports core gaming the most If you are a real gamer, the PS4 is the correct option

To be fair that's based on what? The PS2? Fair enough it lasted a LONG time, but how do we know the same will happen with the PS3? Not saying it won't I hope it does, same with the 360, i'm not changing consoles for a while. Just sayin'

[QUOTE="Jakandsigz"][QUOTE="FlamesOfGrey"]I'm sure they'll keep the system in production for 10 years like they're planning to do with the 360. However, considering the 360's 1st Party support is one HD remaster away from dead 8 years in, it won't be full support like Sony does.Gargus

Sony has full support the first 3 years? Also people forget about the first Xbox.

This is false, it's hard to point out all the bias. Continue to forget that pathetic 3 years of the PS3 in terms of FP.

With those specs, it will be interesting to see if MS and Sony can keep their consoles relevent for that long.

[QUOTE="Jakandsigz"][QUOTE="FlamesOfGrey"][QUOTE="Jakandsigz"] This is like asking me to drive to your hometown to throw you outside and look up to see that the Sky is really Blue. I'll do it, but are you SURE you want me to do it and that you are mentally incapable of using 4 seconds of google? I just want this confirmed before I do it!

If you're going to try to prove a point, prove it. Don't tell me to go and look to see if your point is correct.

What I see from you lists is that there were alot of sports games that Sony published in previous generations that they no longer could because of licensing issues like NFL and NHL games. Sony's PS3 support while slightly less was good.

*laughs hard* So again the metric for support is 1st party support of the old system. Please do point out the 1st party AAA games released for the ps1 at the 7th, 8th, 9th, and 10th year when the ps2 had been released please. Also point out the 1st party AAA games released for the ps2 the 7th, 8th, 9th, and 10 year after the ps3 had been released.

Sony is the only console manufacturer that supports their system for a few years after their next system has released, while support from MS and Nintendo dries up a few years before the launch of their next system. Hats off to Sony.

....lol no.

Infamous was a Sony owned IP from the beginning. They bought Sucker Punch later so, yes it counts. It would anyway since they published the game themselves and funded development. PS3 launched November 2006. Demon's Souls was released in America in October 2009 so no it's not beyond the 3 years time frame. Most of you support is just yearly sports games from a few different genres. PS3's support is much better then everything but the PSP i'd say.
