Talking to Gamasutra as part of an in-depth interview to be published tomorrow, Microsoft Game Studios corporate vice president Shane Kim has spoken on Xbox 360's current PR advantage, suggesting that "Sony has helped us with their own missteps", and praising Nintendo's "strong" Wii launch.

Specifically, when asked whether the current 'backlash' against the PlayStation 3, especially in Europe, is helping Xbox 360 sales, Kim replied: "I feel more confident about our competitive position today than when we launched the program. We've already got ten million units out there, we've got six million members on Xbox Live, we will have 320 Xbox 360 games available for customers by the end of this year."

He continued: "We're the leading game development platform, and I think we have the best exclusive content. Certainly I feel like we're executing our strategy, and it's running on all cylinders. Sony has helped us with their own missteps, and I'd be foolish not to say that it's not helping us. That's fine. I feel better about our competitive position than when we launched the platform."

It's true though...Microsoft is running ther strategy for this generation perfectly:  Offering competitive prices, the most popular online service, and a competitive games library.

Sony does not have competitive prices, is still working on the online service, and some of it's once famous sony library is being stolen by MS.

No one said it was easy but... Sony is the one screwed themselves over with bad decisions so they can blame themselves and not being the one who is hunted.

Microsoft has been learned so well since the Xbox 1 days and is dominating Sony so badly. Sony you need to step up your game cuz MS is always two steps ahead of you.

That's completely true. I didn't even consider buying a 360 until the $600 (or $1000 where I live) price was announced at E3. Even then it wasn't until I started to see a shift of developers to 360, low demand for PS3, graphics that were no better than 360 and other factors that I started to think the 360 would be the platform to own. It wasn't all Sony's mistakes though, games like Gears of War and Mass Effect were big factors too.

I'll stick with my original idea that all your faults are magnified when you're the hunted instead of the hunter.

Well, I hate to say it, but I have to give Microsoft credit this generation.  They came in determined to be victorious, they're getting some good games, and sales are strong.  Not only that, but they have a great lineup this year with Forza 2, Halo 3, DMC4, Fable 2 (notice how half of them are sequels though.... oh well, can't complain I guess), Blue Dragon, Mass Effect, and more.  Of course, you can tell that they are intentionally sucking up to Nintendo for some yet to be known reason lately.  They really shouldn't be complimenting their competition, especially if their competition is outselling them in monthly sales and easily catching up to the number of consoles sold worldwide (Wii has almost 6 million sold worldwide already, a feat that took Microsoft much longer to accomplish).  I guess time will tell what is in store for Microsoft and the Xbox 360.

Took the words right out of my mouth. I can't think of any other company who would fit that bill so well. Microsoft has dominated their industry like no other company in recent history. They know exactly what it's like to have everyone nipping at your heels.

Ouch, looks like MS is getting some of that Sony arrogance. I mean, it's true, but still, better off for MS to continue playing the humble guy.

I agree. I personally found the original Xbox almost a steaming pile of crap if not for Halo (online) and Ninja Gaiden. 360 is a much more appealing choice, however it's a noisy bastard, and there's so many fans it can repopulate a dead ecosystem.

I think things would have been different if the PS3 had come out at the sametime as the Xbox 360. When the PS2 came out Sony were taking a risk with having a DVD player as part of it's console but it played off very well. I guess they want to take the same kind of risk with Blu-ray but I don't see that happening for a while.

DMC4 coming out for the Xbox 360 and PC, heck all I need to know now is when is MGS4 coming over to the 360 and then they're won't be any need to buy a PS3.

Sony's launch into Europe at the end of this week won't give them the boost that they need but it will provide a much greater base for games. It will be interesting to see how the PS3 shapes up in a year's time or so.

agree with Kim. Although why do I get the feeling right now with MS, they are viewing Nintendo as "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" mentality? Even though the Wii is in serious danger of blowing past the X360 worldwide soon?

I just hope MS learned from both Nintendo and what's going on with Sony right now and stay humble and not get too big headed like "Delusion o' Grandeur" Yamauchi or "Krazy Ken" . I mean, as much as die hard Lems and Cows hate him, what Reggie is doing is perfectly alright. Yes, he's a bit crass, arrogant and pompous at times, but what he says always have an element of truth in them. If MS becomes like Reggie, then, I'm perfectly fine. If they become like "Delusion of Grandeur" Yamauchi or "Krazy Ken"..........Then MS will crash just like Nintendo and Sony!

LOL, hopefully, all the Wii60'ers X360 will sent out a message of, "Congradualtions Wii, now we can co-exists more happily than ever!" Cause I seriously do love both my X360 and Wii (Well, more toward my Wii right now but that can change when MAss Effect comes out).
