I don't get the whole " milking" issue. Why do people get worked up, and decide " Hey! They are selling upgrades for My game! I need all of them!!!! Crap, that cost me $50..... It's Microsofts/Sony's Fault for offering ways to improve the game!!"

This isn't a scam. If you are dumb enough to sit and buy $100s of dollars in downloads, thats your fault, no one elses, and you need more self contol. They are Selling Something, right? You CAN buy them, it's optional, not mandatory, and no one, or thing, is forcing you to. So, as a fair exchange, you pay for the goods. The Terms are clear and not misleading. You give them MP or  $, and they give  you "Item".

"Bu-Bu-But Dey are selling horse armor for 200 MP and thats a rip off" Well then don't buy it moron!!!! If you are dumb enough to pay 3 or 4 bucks for some virtual armor, then you deserve this so called "milking"

And the virtual console. " Dey iz charging for the Gamez!!!" Listen. You were willing to pay 50 dollars for these games 20-30 years ago. they are now $10. If you don't want to pay that, don't buy it. It's that simple.

thank you you are right. i hate when people say "omg i already have that game and they want me to pay 10$ to play it again. no they dont. u payed $50-$60 for it years ago but some ppl werent gamers then so $10 for a classic game is amazing for an N64 title u havent played. plus it will be even more worth it when "rare" games come out for it like Super Mario RPG. good post.

Its still milking man. You just have to admit it. A company owns rights to a game. They re-release that game to you years later and sell it to you (yes for less money, they aren't stupid) because they can and because they know you will buy it, even thought the only difference between then and now is that 10-20 years has passed. They are counting on impulse buys, and counting on impulse buys is milking.

Not saying its horrible, just saying thats what it is.

Milking is releasing a game that can't even use the controller that came in the box when you bought the console...

And I'm not talking about GunCon and EyeToy games either...

Fair price for Horse Armour.  Well since there is no market for Horse Armour, they can charge whatever they see fit.  It's not milking.  It's not required to play the game.  Milking is buying a cell phone, they having to subscribe to a service, then having to pay to have your phone activated for the service.

By that definition, then Snickers Milks everyone. They count on impulse buys. I do agree, it's not right,  but I don't think milking is the right term... How about...... I can't think of anything...... whats a word for something with a ton of over priced upgrades....... Cars! We'll Call It Fording!

I had 8 games for N64 so I don't mind it anything before that I didn't play so it's nice to have the option and I really don't mind the price so I don't see what exactly about it is milking; not to mention that not everyone on GS is over 20+. And I agree with a previous reply EA's microtransactions are the definition of milking; they're charging you for things that used to come standard in games :(. Good post ;)

Microtransactions are only milkage to me if it seems like the content could have been included in the original package but was held back specifically to squeeze a few extra bucks out of customers. My main definition of milking is when a good idea comes along and then is overused. Some of my examples: > The Tomb Raider series: Core was churning these things out every year with barely any gameplay update. They milked the Tomb Raider series so bad that someone had to smack them on the hand, say "NO!" and take it away from them. > Sonic the Hedgehog: Sonic was great... for a game or two. But now that a lot of people have (somehow) fallen in love with the series Sega sees fit to milk it and release tons of subpar Sonic games. > Nintendo characters: Mario, Zelda, etc. Say what you will about the consistent quality of the game titles, the characters are MILKED MILKED MILKED! Mario has been in just about every genre of game you can think of. But Nintendo doesn't just milk their franchises on their own, they do crossovers like Super Smash and Mario Kart. Like I said, these aren't BAD games per se, but the characters are being milked for all they're worth.

how are ea sport any more milkage than 2k? they both basicly release the same game with minor upgrades
