Shigeru Miyamoto has told The San Francisco Chronicle that he's currently working on something 'brand new' at Nintendo. Miyamoto wouldn't announce specifics but he did reveal that whenever Nintendo start something brand new they generally assemble a small, capable team.
"Whenever we try to create something brand new, we have to start from a very small, capable team," he said. "When a big company is trying to do something really new, it's not a good idea for many people to work on it from the start."
Miyamoto was circumspect on the subject of what that "brand new" thing might be.
"Until the time that we are ready to commercialize it, it's not something we can disclose," he said.
Miyamoto has also re-clarified his role at Nintendo in this interview, stating that it his future plans have been misunderstood.
"Nothing has changed, and nothing will be changed in the near future as to my role inside of the company,"Miyamoto said through a translator.
Miyamoto said he would continue to oversee development of Nintendo's games, but would increasingly delegate more responsibility to younger designers at the company. He said he did want to work on new projects, though, starting with a focused team.
