"The fact that both of those companies are looking at getting the gamer off the couch, taking advantage of motion control, and getting them to control the game by moving their body shows that they have looked at what we have done with Wii. And now they are moving in the same direction. To that end we are very flattered."

It's a nice reply in a usually hate-filled industry. I don't really think that Nintendo is too worried, but who knows what will happen. Nintendo is still the king of marketing with the casual audience. I would be surprised to see the PS3 or 360 overtaking that audience this late into the game, but again, anything can happen.

Sony has already made use of motion control even before the Wii launched through the Eyetoy.

But the wii is a motion controlled wand that you hold in your hand for motion controls. I mean, at least years E3, Nintendo showed off basically what Sony showed off minus the camera with Wii Motion+. I think relating the Eyetoy with the Wiimote is a bit of a stretch when looking at influence.

He handles himself with class. Unlike the shots taken at the Wii during the MS conference this year.

Having said that, I'm not too thrilled that motion controls are becoming such a trend.

Well, it kinda is. Didnt they even have EyeToy exercise games last gen? Either way, just shows how much of an industry leader Nintendo is, I'd be flattered too... even though I'm not crazy about motion control.

Not to mention, they were on the ropes last gen. This gen they gave themselves another opportunity. They'll continue to innovate next gen and think outside the box.

True but as Sony showed this gen, brand name means nothing to casuals. I think we can all agree that the only reason Nintendo won this gen was because they were doing something new, i just wounder what it's going to be like next gen when all 3 launch with motion control.

Nintendo's whole strategy from this point onward is to take the "party game market" and make those people interested in games that lie further towards the "hardcore" end of the spectrum. They know they can't just keep milking the casuals as they are, so they want to transform them into a whole different market ripe for profit. I think NSMB Wii is one of the main games they're using to help the ultra-casuals get interested in "real games".

Its pretty funny though that although neither Sony's or Microsoft motion sensing devices are available or finished for that matter yet they both already surpassed the Wii.

Natal is much more advanced than the Wiimote. I don't know about the Sony peripheral, but it didn't seem that much different from the M+ Wiimote.

Ya i guess Nintendo has a while to figure things out, in my opinion if Nintendo doesn't do something new again next gen they're just going to be overshadowed by Sony and Microsoft who are most likely going to have better tech than Nintendo. But what is the next step up from motion control? Using your mind to control a game? They'd definitely win if they could pull that off lol

Conference demonstrations are meaningless, but if you want to go by that Wii Motion plus demos look every bit as 1:1 as what Sony is offering, and MS's Natal device looks like more of a minigame device than any of them as it doesn't have nearly as many applications in real gaming. How are you going to run around with your character in it in vast gaming landscapes? Walk around the 3 feet of space you have in your living room?

Natal looks advanced, but what is it going to do for gaming? It looks like a good party game device and thats it. How are you going to play first person, third person, or sidescrollers with it?

I think MS and Sony were nervous that enough with the Wii being the fastest selling console of all time, they they had to take such desperate measures to release a copycat strategy so late in the gen with such a small chance of suceeding due to their products being peripherals.

he said it because they didn't. Seriously, during the sony conference they were using controls that were eerily similar to the wii and were showing things that the wii is all about, but they just refuse to mention the wii. To me it made the sony motion sensing demo really awkward. They should have just admitted that they are responding to the wii and making it better. You can spin it to make it sound good, like how pepsi often mentions coca cola in their ads

Lol I love Miyamoto's response. I do think the Wii has been kind of overshadowed, all because of the lack of good games, i mean c'mon all those "minigames" and "sports" games from almost unknown companies... But oh well, Nintendo is obviously the winner, look at Wii and DSi sales... When I read Iwata's article of "blue ocean" (not the game) I thought "man, Nintendo clearly knows what they're doing" they know how to get the best sales.

I'm not to worried about what Nintendo will do about the attempt of Sony and MS of introducing motion controllers, Iwata gave hints that they have something in store, their ideas never run out, just thinking about the consoles they may have planned or are planning makes me excited about how Nintendo will evolve.

Having said that, I'm not too thrilled that motion controls are becoming such a trend.

The best part is, thought I doubt they realized it, they were quoting almost verbatim what Nintendo has been saying for the past few years.

Nintendo had the gameboy camera years before that. And also the eyetoy sucked
