I wouldn't call him the godfather of gaming. Think of Doom . That was the first big FPS. FPS's were called Doom clones for years after Doom came out. Miyamoto hasn't done any FPS's. He's did define the 3d era of platformers.Kriact
But does he teach at elite Japanese colleges?if miyamoto taught at colleges i would go out of my way to go to that college.

What has he done?
1. Single Handling Desiging and developing games that every single platformer is based off of today: Donkey Kong, Mario bros, and the legendary Super Mario Bros.
2. Designed a game with controls and a camera 1st that worked almost flawlessly and gave people an expierence in gaming they never felt before. 3D in Super Mario 64. Controls were also perfected.
3. Designed a battlesystem and camera along with amazing quality that probably has not been surpassed today and almost every game tries to emulate it- Zelda the OoT
Just to name a few.

1. I never felt that Mario Brothers and Donkey Kong were that great. Super Mario Brothers was awesome, but how have the other two been emulated since? Especially Mario Brothers...
2. I agree.
3. OoT's camera and battlesystem not surpassed as of yet? You need to play more games, seriously.
Without Miyamoto, gaming wouldn't exist the way we know it.VGobbsesser4 sho. I like to call him the founding father of gaming myself.

No, the godfather was Baer, if I spelled that correctly. If you know who he is, then you truely know the roots of gaming.Legendaryscmt

William Higinbotham created the first ever video game, Tennis for Two, in 1958. It was created and displayed so that people would be entertained and it would prove that their science had relevance in today's society. Was displayed on a simple oscilloscope.
Steve Russell and a group of colleagues created Spacewar, the first ever computer video game, in 1962. Despite this huge accomplishment, Russell was modest, saying that someone else would've simply gotten there first if he hadn't.
Ralph Baer created the first video game to be played on a television, Chase, in 1967. Also Baer went on to later create the first video game console, the Magnavox Odyssey.
The first arcade game was Computer Space, created by Nolan Bushnell in 1971. Was based off spacewar and was the first game to be widely available to the public, but didn't do all that well since people thought it was too complicated.
