I don't think Nintendo picked the best game to go up against Gears 2 and Little big planet this Christmas. At least the hardcore Wii fans in that video liked it though.

Why?

Nintendo already knows every mother, son, and grandpa will be buying Wii Music.

Gears and Little Big Planet appeal to a much smaller demographic.

I know it's hard to realize this on Gamespot, but you hardcore people are in the minority.

Wii Music pretty much appeals to everyone who's NOT self-proclaimed hardcore, and that's a lot of people.

Wii Music will sell a lot better than those two games, and I'll be contributing with my purchase October 20th. ;)

The Pre- school kids are the Wii's user base, like it or not it's the truth. And they are its most hardcore fans. If you are over 10+ and like Wii you are in the minority. This video is Nintendo testing out its biggest game of the year on its biggest and most hardcore , and important fans.

That's weird.

Usually kids that young don't have enough money to buy a Wii.

Congratulations for misreading my post!

I said their demographic is much smaller than Wii Music's.

They can still have a large demographic, but it doesn't hold a fruitloop to Wii Music's.

So let's say I sell 10 million apples. And Bob, my neighbor, sells 3 million oranges. Well my apples appeal to a lot more people, even though his oranges sold quite well.

Seriously to which one?

Not many people will argue the fact that Wii Music will sell more.

And if buying a game that appeals to me makes me lose my credibility, then I guess I never had any.

But I can understand how people would rather dismiss games as "kiddy". Because we all know THOSE people have the true credibility.

Oh, and I don't understand the kiddy thing. In all games you're playing a fictional character in a world of make-believe. What other time did you enjoy pretending you were in a world of make-believe? When you were a kid? Oh yes.

What attracts you to Wii Music?DireToad

The fact I can play several upon several instruments with family, friends, etc. It'll take me a while to try out every single instrument.

My movements actually generate sound, unlike other wildly popular franchises. Guitar Hero, Rock Band, etc.

Just about every hands-on/preview has been generally positive about the game.

The only complaints about the game, are that it's kiddy, and has no goal. I'm not concerned with either. It's a simple game where movements and buttons produce sound, and I really can't wait to try it out.

I'll have my thoughts on the game after a good day or so of playing. So stay tuned for a blog. ;)

So everyone who buys Wii Music is a hardcore Nintendo fanboy?

1.) I'm not hardcore. Don't group me with those insecure adolescents.

2.) You're telling me every mom that buys this game is a hardcore Nintendo fanboy?

Your logic is flawless.

And I'm not sure how two football gifs and a link to a thread I maintain profess my love for Nintendo.

What do you mean?

In GH and RB, you play guitars and drums. You generate sound by pressing the fret buttons and strum or by hitting the drums.

In Wii Music, you press the buttons to generate sound for a saxophone or you move the Wiimote to imitate hitting a triangle. I don't see the extent to which Wii Music goes and RB and GH don't.

Even if those games and Wii Music require the same general movements, your entire point is backed by two instruments. Wii Music has sixty or so.

And as for the guitar, a majority of the time it's a matter of pressing the right buttons. The drums supply the most real movement, but that's only if you spend $150 or whatever it costs and get the entire package.

I'd rather buy Guitar Hero IV with just the guitar, and buy Wii Music and have access to sixty or so instruments.

And you think those 60 instruments won't require the same 4-5 movements from all the other Wii games out there? Up, down, left, right, turn. It's all the same thing.

So, if Wii Music actually sells more than Gears of War 2, what does that really mean? I am not suddenly gonna want to play dumb games like that. Most video gamers could care less about the that game, but somehow, because millions of moms and young children buy it, this somehow means something. Now the new rage is snotty people going around SAYING they love Wii Music and that makes them special. Yay.

From what i understand, The difference between wiimusic and the rythmn games is that in the rythmn games you have to press the buttons at the right time in order to create sound(well, that's not true.. if you hit at a wrong time you make an awful skreech) while in wii music you create your own rythmn. That's why the mario theme at e3 was so crazy, and that's the appeal of wii music. You get to express your own rythmn, rather then confining yourself to a set one. That's why it could be considered more creative, you don't memorize a pattern but play a song your way(for better or worse!). Though aren't the new guitar hero or rock band allowing users to actuallycreate a song?

of course, none of this means wii music is superior or even good.

We already know wii music isn't a traditional game by most any standard. So of course it's not going to have alot of appeal to people who practically game for a living. But that doesn't mean it's bad either. It certainly doesn't have my attention, but i can see how a family would eat it up. Good for them, diversity is a great thing.. but maybe i say that because i'm canadian :)

One day I will understand what's everyone's problem with WiiMusic. You don't like it? don't buy it. I'm not interested in it, I'll not buy it. Problem solved.

But there's some kind of inexplicable and irrational hate against it, even for System Wars.

Maybe because some people actually are hurt by the fact it will outsell most of their favourites games and will help the Wii outselling their favourites consoles.

*sigh*.

I'll never understand why some people call other people names, just because they don't like the same games.

Is it a cool thing to do or something?

Now the SW logic I'm beginning to understand, is that NOBODY can like a game that SW deems kiddy, and if they do, they're mentally unstable.

That really doesn't help the credibility of some of the members on this site.

Call me cynical, but can't help thinking if Wii music had been developed by some 3rd party, then it'd be dismissed as a POS cash-in.

I may be proved wrong, but this "game" doesn't look like it has many redeeming features.

Hah, i don't think you're entirely wrong! The thing is, it's the next step in the wii series, which has proven to be quite interesting. Also, the fact one of the greatest game designers in the world has a huge hand in it is really what gives it promise. It's hard hyping games, we know so little and you really can't tell if a game is good until you get it.. so i guess sometimes(mostly!?) established names really propel something. And that's nto a bad thing, miyamoto is quality.

So if you think he's a genious, perhaps you should try the game before you jump on the SW bandwagon.

Call me cynical, but can't help thinking if Wii music had been developed by some 3rd party, then it'd be dismissed as a POS cash-in.

I may be proved wrong, but this "game" doesn't look like it has many redeeming features.

stvee101

Hah, i don't think you're entirely wrong! The thing is, it's the next step in the wii series, which has proven to be quite interesting. Also, the fact one of the greatest game designers in the world has a huge hand in it is really what gives it promise. It's hard hyping games, we know so little and you really can't tell if a game is good until you get it.. so i guess sometimes(mostly!?) established names really propel something. And that's nto a bad thing, miyamoto is quality.

Miyamoto is a genius. Why the hell is he involved in something like this lol? Wasted talent springs to mind.

Maybe because he actually believes that is fun, just as those "bored puzzle games" that finally were a big success.

I'll tell you, I have no interest in WiiMusic, but I don't have a problem if Miyamoto wants to do something different or to create a game that appeals mostly to kids.

Eh he can do what the hell he likes,I don't own a Wii and don't have any intenton of owning one any time soon,so it doesn't particularly bother me what he works on.

I'd just like to see him work on something epic again.

[QUOTE="_TVirus_"]The Pre- school kids are the Wii'suser base, like it or not it's the truth. And they are its most hardcore fans. If you are over 10+ and like Wii you are in the minority. This video is Nintendo testing out its biggest game of the year on its biggest and most hardcore , and important fans. Son_of_Some

ignorant fanboy. The average age of wii owners is 29.

"To be perfectly honest, I think that the elderly owners throw off the average a bit." that comment kinda said it all.

It would be really hard to get a accurate account of who plays the Wii vs. who buys it. I am fairly sure a 8 year old isn't walking into the store and buying his own Wii.

regardless of that... Wii-music is crap IMO. If you like your Wii, good, enjoy what you like, but don't defend this thing that can hardly be defined as a game.

It's not even a game. It's a toy, according to Nintendo.

Luckily I'm secure enough with myself to be seen playing with a toy and not be worried of what others think of me.

So I don't see anything wrong with defending something that's getting unwarranted criticism.

Wii Fit caught the same negative attention, and I use it every day. It also got reasonable reviews, so I'm not sure why people would think differently for this game in the Wii Series.

I don't think Nintendo picked the best game to go up against Gears 2 and Little big planet this Christmas. At least the hardcore Wii fans in that video liked it though.Kratos-PS3

Perhaps you do not understand the Japanese mindset and culture which Miyamoto is part of. He does not have to conform to the expectations of Western fanboys.

Why do I get the impression in System Wars that there is too much American-/Western-centricism here when discussing Japanese-made games? Look at the culturally-ignorant and prejudiced attitudes by Western fanboys towards JRPGs, and the ignorant generalizations of Japanese gamers whenever a new sales chart appears on this forum.

how is that new? the majority of people here started playing video games on systems like the nes, master system, snes, genesis, ps1, n64, ps2. gamecube, xbox, 360, ps3, and wii, and even stuff like the atari 2600, intellivision, etc when they were mere kids. i dont know why people keep forgeting this, as if they were never kids at all at one point in their lifetime.

That's weird.

Usually kids that young don't have enough money to buy a Wii.

Their parents buy it for them to shut them up
