I definitely would not call him overrated but I do think Nintendo relies on him too much. One day he might decide to retire or even leave this world. Then what would Nintendo do? I personally would love to see him as a freelancer. Create his games for all systems not just one.

Actually they hardly rely on him for games much at all anymore. He does more as an executive at this point than a game developer, which of course isn't a bad thing at all since it brought us the DS and Wii.

He also a great teacher. He has plenty of pupils to carry on the tradition.

Carmack always regarded game design as a pain in the ass, and I don't think he's a particularly good game designer. He's just interested in the technology, and he does contribute to some amazing game engines.

I did say some didn't I? I don't believe ALL of his games are flawless, but games like Super Mario 64 and Ocarina of Time I consider his best work.

haha i came in thinking the same thing lol.  if sony or microsoft could get their hands on them they would.  the man is a legend!  i dont think any other developer gets so much respect from all other developers.
