**********************************************************************************

In a recent interview with GamesTM, Shigeru Miyamoto seemed to express interest in having a new Star Fox game made:

"When GamesTM told Miyamoto that they'd love to see a new Starfox game for Wii, he replied: "Me too."

He also previously said to Japanese games magazine Famitsu that the Wiimote could be used to control the Arwing in Starfox."

If he's really interested, it looks like there's one acclaimed developer ready for the task.

http://buttonbasher.files.wordpress.com/2009/05/347flo9.jpg

Platinum Games' Hideki Kamiya, director of the critically acclaimed Bayonetta and Okami, had quite a bit to say on this matter at his Twitter when a follower pointed out the interview to him yesterday.

First, he Tweeted: "If they had the team that made Star Fox 64 make it..."

He then followed with: "I want Nintendo's staff to come to Platinum, stick guns at us and tell us 'You guys make a new Star Fox.'"

He went on to offer great praise for Star Fox 64, particular for its scenario and the heated battles.

It looks like Kamiya already got midway through development of his own little Star Fox. As a submission for entering Capcom, he offered two ideas. One involved wolves and ended up being the basis for Okami. The other was a 3D shooting game. However, he was so satisfied with Star Fox 64 that he thought there'd be no need to make a 3D shooter.

Nintendo X Platinum Games Starfox game on the Wii?

Could be good.

I've kind of given up on Starfox at this point. I hope they make good ones, but after utterly destroying the story and characters in Command -- and before that, with Krystal and the awkward stories in Assault and Adventures -- I want to pretend the series ended with 64

Though the sales is what I'm worried about. If this new Star Fox game sells poorly... :( Please make it a mixture of aerial combat and action adventure/RPG. I'd love to play this series like that.

Nintendo should cling to the developers that are enthousiastic to work with them and don't worry about the rest. As long as nintendo and these few teams get a hold on the ins and outs of the nintendo platforms its audiences will get the games they want. They don't need 3rd party ports from other consoles as gamers tend to have more than 1 platform to game on.

We should turn this into a competition. Judging by the amount of people in here who proudly talk about the amount of dust on their Wiis, we might as well give the one who collects the most a prize.

Maybe i'l make a "Show your dusty Wii" thread. The one with enough dirt on it to build a small house wins a brown shooter of their choice.

Nintendo has had many third party companies make their titles for them in the past. Zelda four swords, Metroid another M, Mario Party games and Mario 3 on 3 all come to mind. I know there have been many more other cases. So we can hope.

Yeah, joint projects with nintendo usually work because they are also very active during the entire development process. Zelda Oracle games for the GBC where fantastic, and they where made by Capcom.

Star Fox 64, or as its called in Europe 'Lylat Wars' is just amazing. It's a pity they couldn't translate rumble for the VC edition, it was an incredibly good game for rumble. Even the tank sections were fun.

Didn't the rumble pak come in that big box. Get it, its still worth it, you'd be surprised at how good it is with the rumble pak. I have a better third party one though, it doesn't need batteries like the Nintendo one, its lighter and fits the slot tighter, so it doesn't rattle when it vibrates.

I think it was the first N64 rumble game but it uses it better than most other N64 rumble enabled games. Every where it's used was so well thought out. And it seems to use variable vibration speeds as well.

Starwing and Lylat wars were immense. I haven't played anything starfox related after those, but if a good Starfox game came out for the Wii, it'd give me another reason to consider rebuying one.

Hideki Kamiya wants so send the series back the way it was before Rare made Fox a Zelda clone. But what I have to ask about is why does he want to wait for Miyamoto to ask him to make it? Is he not aware Miyamoto wants to do it as well?

I have mixed feelings about this news. On one hand, I'd love to see a new SF games, but I don't like the populist comments about Star Fox 64. It was a great game at the time, but I'd want something better than just a rehash of that game. They shouldn't drop the idea of on-foot missions. If executed better, let alone with Wii controls, it could really make for something special.

Miyamoto criticized DKC too. It's probably just a development philosophy that he has that doesn't meld with other developers'.

As long as its more like N64 Star Fox in terms of character design, that gross *** Furry **** in the GC versions made the games unplayable completely. Not even Kamiya could save Star Fox if they furry'd it up so much. Would be too busy throwing up. Otherwise the idea is SO awesome.

I played 64 back in the old days and it was (actually is) a bad game, pretty overrated. Forgettable story, bad characters and an awful gameplay ruins this game. Miroku32

1. The story was a bit on the short side, but there was a lot of subtlety involved. Much like Majora's Mask, there is a lot of backstory that is hinted at but is never exactly portrayed in the game. In Sector X, for example, basically everybody on both the Cornerian and Andross' side were destroyed by the new Bio-weapon. With a game like Star Fox, the journey is more important than the destination and in that regards, it did an excellent job.

2. Bad characters? Some of their one-liners and banter between the characters are some of the most memorable quotes in the video game industry!

"I am the great Leon!"

"Never give up. Trust your instincts!"

"Do a barrel roll!"

"Check your G-diffuser system." (I still don't know what that is :P)

3. The gameplay surprisingly holds up quite well to this day. Levels such as Area 6, Katina, Aquas, the space fights with Star Wolf, etc. are very intense and exhilarating. The intensity of the battles increases exponentially if you are trying to receive the medallions and play through all of the hard-course levels. For an added challenge, I find it fun to go into cockpit mode. D:

Area 6 is probably one of the most epic levels in the game. You see Venom growing ever closer, Venom's soldiers in complete disarray, and Star Fox is kicking some serious ass. That level was pure gold.

You should probably open your eyes a little more...

Metroid Prime (Retro Studios)
Metroid Prime 2: Echoes (Retro Studios)
Metroid Prime 3: Corruption (Retro Studios)
Custom Robo (NOISE)
Eternal Darkness (Silicon Knights)
Super Mario Strikers (Next Level Games)
Mario Strikers Charged (Next Level Games)
Punch-Out!! (Next Level Games)

These aren't developers who were hired directly by Nintendo to work on their main teams... these are developers who were once independent, and then became part of Nintendo. Except of course for Silicon Knights, who were never purchased outright.

Is that necessarily a bad thing? That practice is quite common with MS and Sony and other large video game companies as well.

People only hate the newer Star Fox games because they were not graphically updated carbon copies of Star Fox 64.
