More like Johhny Cash.

How much does it cost to buy every single Mortal Kombat 11 skin?

Mortal Kombat 11 seems like it will require a lot of grinding to unlock all the game's cosmetics, but one player did the math and found out how much money it would actually take to unlock everything by just paying for it.

NetherRealm Studios' latest game Mortal Kombat 11 was met with critical acclaim with some reviewers even calling it the best Mortal Kombat title to date.

However, players have been reporting something a lot of the reviews glossed over - Mortal Kombat 11 features a lot of grinding if you want to unlock the various cosmetics the game has to offer.

It costs over $6,000 to purchase everything

A post on the PS4 subreddit shows just how much money it costs for players to buy every skin in the game without doing any grinding and the number is shockingly high.

  • Read more: Mortal Kombat 11's Skarlet comes to life with impressive cosplay

Reddit user AccomplishedPoet8 says it takes $6,440 to buy every skin in the store if you're lucky and check the store every time it resets.

He came to this conclusion by saying there at 23 characters in the game, each of which that have 60 skins. Playing through various parts of the game unlock four skins, leaving 56 to unlock at $5 a pop.

This number doesn't even count for the fatalities, brutalities, gear, etc. that players also have to earn.

While players aren't required to do any of this and it's not needed to fully enjoy the game, it does feel like a slap in the face to anyone looking forward to these features as they were previously made available for little to no extra payment or grinding.

NetherRealm says fixes are coming

In a stream, the developers said fixes are coming due to the community backlash.

"Everything in the game has numbers attached to it," says NetherRealm. "We can change those numbers without pushing out a patch."

And in this post-Battlefront II world, they really think people wouldn't notice, do the math, then post it online for all to see?

Actually, scratch that, they probably know. They're probably deliberately launching the game grindy as all Hell fully expecting the backlash, then issue a mea culpa, "backtrack" to where they intended it all along, and be hailed as saints.

That, or I'm just being exceedingly cynical. I've certainly seen this kind of crap enough times to justify it.

When it comes to gaming, there really is no level of too cynical.

That's fucking dirty. Good to see they're fixing due to backlash, but in all fairness... Who in God's name gave all this the green-light? I'd say that's less of an oversight, and more to see who the Hell jumps at the proposition lol.

To be fair if you just give a shit about MP, you can ignore all this.

But that's a very specific thing, if you play SP, as mentioned above by madrocketeer, they deliberately made it grindy and cheap, and now they are backtracking like they are being oh-so-kind to do you a favor.

Like, they had no idea what they were doing, just a ol' misunderstanding.

DBZF done something similar if memory serves. Blue Goku/Vegita already in the game, made and done, but with a grind to get them, or pay for the day 1 DLC,. even though they were in the game.

That is so expensive...

And I understand this thought: you don't need to buy it all.

But how on Earth can the content in that game be valued at $6440? When the base game is $60? Even if they have to sell 10 times more DLC than game to make it profitable because of lower DLC sales numbers or so... that's suggesting that the DLC for this game is still valued roughly 10 times the game itself. (And that is not taking into consideration that this is digital only content which makes it easier to net a profit than with physical game sales.)

That's ludicrous. They're ripping people off. Don't walk into the store.

Remember when everything in the game, was something you earned from playing the game..

This BS is infecting almost every genre in gaming, in fighting games its got excessive tho, DOA6 for example, every single one, paying 10 bucks for 1 character, its a big reason ive been just opting out of some of my favorite franchises.

AAA games are filled with the micro trans, got me playing stardew valley for a breath of fresh air

That's F2P... They're just the shitstains of gaming. Literally stupid costs for absolute morons. I'm sure there have been full-price games with stupid DLC prices, but i'm not sure about hitting $6000. If devs have hit that number, then kudos for being absolute wankhats.

Tiny brain?

Yeah people are up in arms over something that is cosmetic and can be unlocked by playing (I know you cows don't understand the playing part, must be that tiny brain thing) the game.

I'm not trying to defend this game as I won't be buying it as its a boring arse fighting game, but the fake outrage is just that fake, as i'm sure the people who are complaining are the people who have already bought the game.

If people want to get outraged by this then they should be outraged over its fellow gamers who have supported this shit last gen to make this more of a thing these days.

Are devs/publishers greedy? **** yes, but its stupid gamers giving them money that encourages it, and SC is a prime example where people have paid $30,000 for ships in a game that at this stage has burnt through all its release dates that it doesn't have one anymore.

What your tiny brain can't comprehend is that its gamers at fault for paying for it, and its only going to gets worse before it gets better.

Indeed. Akumas reveal in SFII as he sweeps on stage to kill Bison creates a giddy kind of excitement rarely seen in games. A truly magical moment that felt earned.

In SFV, he was locked behind a season pass, where the only mystery was in not knowing what you were FUCKING BUYING.

At least it’s not a movie game.

I’d much rather pay $6000+ dollars for some gameplay modes and 3 and a half hour side movie...again that just is side thing of cutscenes that’s....3and a half hours long...than pay $60 for a movie game.

I mean **** me, how right am I?

I don't care much for MK11. People are all angry about this when they should just go play UNIST! Support French Bread and their amazing game!

Also, Tekken is the undisputed champ of fighting games. Most copies sold for the entire series and Tekken 7 (2015) is still going strong from its console port in 2017.

In any tournament, Tekken top 8 is always the best to watch and the most hype the entire tournament gets.

not for me. they made the shit too complicated now. like adding meter to do combo breakers.

also the moves are slightly harder to do. instead of forward >forward>punch now its back >forward>punch. forward forward is tons easier than back>forward.
little things like that. there's tons of it.

now you have 3 versions of a character you have to choose also. complicating shit.

only thing better is the graphics and fatalities.

Oh well I guess I have to be the one... micro-transactions help fun the game or the game would be more than $60... you don't have to buy it you can just grind all the content for 200 hours.

That's it I'm out.

According to who? Publishers know they can get away with these things, so they try. There are games made today with more content and that costs less than $60 (and don't have MTs for over 6000 dollars). Please don't defend this shit, man.

So $5 is one skin in MK11. In SSBU $6 is a whole new fighter with skins, a pretty rad stage and multiple licensed songs. In the season pass thing it's $5 per challenger pack. Just let that sink in, right. The people at Nintendo are apparently so much more competent, that they can sell a whole fighter, skins, stage, and 11 songs for the same price as a paintjob in MK11. They're on a different level. Sakurai is like Super Saiyan God level compared to MK11's Yamcha. Just imagine the margins for a moment.

How ****ing sad.

And this is the most hilarious part: With that Joker challenger pack you can feel the love. I'm not kidding. You can tell they went all out to make it worth it. That victory screen being similar to the P5 end-of-battle screen? They didn't have to do that. They did, though. They didn't have to model that Persona 5 cat to pop onto the screen whenever you taunt. They did, though. They didn't have to make the stage change songs when it changes colors and art. They did. They didn't have to add new Persona spirit fights. Yet they did. Everything about that pack oozes a desire to please the fans. It's like on a different planet in terms of value and respect for the consumer. And I'm STILL hesitant about that stuff. But anyone here can see that, right, that there's a stark difference there. If I were to review MK11 that would impact my opinion of that game. Because it's done so much better elsewhere... what is their excuse at this point? I think there is no excusing it. MK11's MTX offers are exquisitely terrible.
