I didn't realize they were bringing this over to the XBOX ecosystem. Looks like Sony and MS might start playing nice with each other when it comes to certain 1st party titles?

Didn't they announce the game would be multi-platform months ago?

Whatever, it's a sports video game. The one genre where the perpetual live service model would actually be pro-consumer.

LOL I must be out of the loop on this. Personally I buy about 1 of each sport game per console generation, not enough variation in the game to make it worth buying each year IMO

Can you believe people buy these games every year just for the updated rosters? In a game where you can draft your own roster lol.

It's cringe-y right!? Atleast they finally settled back a little and aren't charging for the dlc's/expansions with the newest one. I haven't bought a COD game since Black Ops 3 and was really disappointed. Thinking about getting Cold War but haven't yet.

Would these sports games sell well without the annual updated rosters? It is possible that people buy these games because of the updated rosters, not the new or updated features.

I think certain games or genres shouldn't be exclusive. However, this is news to me. And as British gamer, I have no dog in the fight, because it's an American sport.

This biggest killer sports exclusive would be if Fifa was exclusive to one platform.

FIFA license also has that it needs to be released on multiple platforms, thats why they have always done at least one release per nintendo console lol

Yeah I remember hearing about this awhile. It’s definitely weird seeing a PlayStation logo on an Xbox game case. 😅

Anyway not really interested in baseball games myself so I’ll pass on this one.

Old news, not that strange except as that Tweet shows the Sony logo on the cover. Has MS never bothered with MineCraft? Or will they in future with games going to PS5 like Deathloop?

@lamprey263: I don't believe Minecraft ever got a physical release.

Also, MS has never published games on Playstation and like never will unless Sony allows Game Pass.......which is extremely unlikely.

Minecraft was already on PS when they were bought and MS has put a few games on DS/Switch.

Its unlikely that any future titles will make it to PS5

I've known about this for a long time, and to be honest I'm more than ok with this. I am a long time fan of MLB The Show although I feel the past 2 years games have been kind of bad. Games like this don't need to be exclusive and will do much better getting to a larger audience. I'll probably still get the game on PS5 since that is where my friends list for the game is, but it will be nice as hell to have better and faster match making and a larger player base for better skilled based games as well. Not to mention the auction house prices will balance out faster and there will be more to trade. This is only a good thing. Hopefully they will see that since this is the first time it's going to Xbox that they had better really go all out with this years game. The last two have really stagnated and felt like they were reskins at best that only stripped features and broke mechanics and the online play was abysmal at times. I feel as though they will try to get this one right though.

Actually the games sell for the new sets and continued support along with new rookies, mechanics, modes, etc., but mostly for the new packs, challenges, and achievements/trophies. The grind for legends and all the challenges in the games are what people really enjoy. After playing the previous game for a year most are either done or have everything they want or could accomplish. MLB The Show games continue roster updates for a few months on their older games even when the new one drops.

I usually like MLB The Show although I haven't really enjoyed the last two years. That said the two games you listed are a couple of my all time favorites. Well.. that is if you mean Ken Griffey Jr. Presents Major League Baseball and not Winning Run.

This isn't even close to being true. MLB The Show 20 (although not a good year in my opinion) had the best sales the franchise has ever seen and was top 3 in sales the month it released.

Not recently. They're going the "loot boxes" route, but the maps are completely free.

I really wish I was at these negotiation meetings. Did MLB really had more leverage. MLB The Show does well for Sony but it seems like a niche title compared to NFL/NBA/FIFA titles.

Hell 2K and EA were more than welcome to make MLB games but they didn't. This shows MLB is not as worthy as the other sports. Too bad as I would've like to see another MVP Baseball.

For starters the baseball game ever was World Series Baseball II on the Sega Saturn, but not many of you would know about that, also had the best Ice Hockey game in NHL Powerplay 97.

But since those days, i don't play many sports games now, and zero American ones, so this is a non event for me.

I played College baseball and semi pro. I love it and to me it's the best besides American Football. I'll buy it even though the game pretty much has been the same since it first came out. Hopefully it's better now that it is a multiplat. I'll bet $100 DF finds the Xbox version is superior lmfao.

A "pet project" for 15yrs straight WITHOUT a break, its been milked more than another franchise in history that doesn't have an EA logo on it.

The best part is that MS paid nothing, the MLB told Sony to make it a multiplat or lose the license, and like a good little boy Sony said ok 🤣🤣🤣

Who cares why its on xbox? It's a terrible realistic baseball simulation game. Nobody is going to have a "good time" playing crap like that i'd rather whip out MLB ken griffey Jr on snes or RBI baseball where you can have a more arcadey experience.

This sim is trash for real gamers.

Yes there are rumors regarding this. NFL/FIFA/NBA are on multiplatform systems which increases their brand awareness. Having your logo on more systems somewhat helps MLB reach out to a younger audience. The average age of MLB fans is 55.

The current MLB The Show games has classic mode that plays like the SNES Ken Griffey.
