Sony Just Doubled the Price of Horizon: Zero Dawn on PS4 Following PS5 Remaster Reveal

$9.99 upgrade just went up.

Sony has doubled the price of PlayStation 4 game Horizon: Zero Dawn following the reveal of its PS5 remaster.

Eurogamer spotted the price rise in the UK (from £15.99 to £34.99) but the price also rose in the U.S., jumping from $19.99 to $39.99 on the PlayStation Store.

Horizon: Zero Dawn has been at the previous price point for years as part of the PlayStation Hits collection, and other entries such as God of War and The Last of Us Remastered have remained at the typical $19.99 price.

The price rise comes just days after Sony announced a remaster of the seven-year-old game at its 2024 State of Play broadcast alongside a friendly $9.99 upgrade price for those who own it already. The game otherwise costs $49.99, so the price rise is essentially to stop players buying it for $19.99 on PS4 and paying another $9.99 to upgrade.

This comes after Sony pulled Horizon: Zero Dawn from the PlayStation Plus Extra Games Catalog in May. The 2017 game has therefore gone from free for subscribers to $19.99 and now $39.99 in the last four months, or $49.99 for those wanting the best version.

The PS5 version of Horizon: Zero Dawn arrives October 31 with 10 hours of re-recorded dialogue and visual enhancements.

made a right mess of their release strategy for this gen. this year you can pretty much count the number of new games they have to release on one finger.

so they resort to low effort remasters, but know people who bought the original aren't going to shell out full price to play a slightly improved version so they have to offer the cheap upgrade, but then know that no one new to the game's going to pay full price when they can buy the original and the upgrade for £20.

That's why I gave Sony up. I'm sorry, but I ain't getting milked.

Expected this price hike due to Concord Tax Sony is to collect. But at least it's a $10 upgrade if you own the original anyway and I think everyone has it by now as it's a 7-year-old game to begin with. Go to GameStop and you can find it for $9.99 to $19.99, buy that and apply the extra $10 for the upgrade to avoid full price. Not to mention, it was also given away for free during the "Stay At Home" initiative.

This is hardly a big deal on the price increase.

Buy it physical

I've found myself playing old games the last few months nothing has interested me. Got a backlog on my Xbox and ps5.

Buy what you want, don't buy what you don't want, pretty simple right? I don't personally see the point of continuously buying the same game over and over again, and if you haven't bought the game yet and it's your first time playing it then it isn't a bad deal... so I don't see the problem other than the fact that I'd rather have new games. Hell, give me 10 5 million dollar games over a Remastered game any day.

Digital is a scam, what else is new?

I have the game because I share a library with my family members. Digital made it free for me. 🤷 I want to be mad with you but every time I try digital games just prove to be a good option for me.

@TheEroica: Lets be honest here. You sold your rights to Gaben, you have NO choice when it comes to buying games, it's 100% digital or go without.

I do find it funny how even though you gave your purchasing rights away you still defend digital, it's like you have Stockholm Syndrome.

As you may or may not know I'm Aussie, and I bought a physical copy of EAFC 25 for my youngest son for his birthday, it cost $75 whereas on MS Xbox marketplace MS/EA want a $110 for a digital copy, like I said digital is a scam.

There is no place in the world that a digital copy should cost as much as a physical version let alone more.

Physically buy the game anywhere.

I didn't enjoy nearly as much as BOTW and TOTK.
