Although it's been around for a while, crafting. I don't need to carry six different things to make three kinds of ammunition. Just give me the ammunition/health. All crafting does it make item management more of a hassle. Also, who the hell crafts in the middle of a firefight?

Are you speaking of a specific game? I am curious because it sounds like Fallout or Resident Evil where you have very limited inventory space.

A couple games that came to mind where The Last of Us, and Horizon: Zero Dawn. I understand crafting is supposed to allow for customization... but again, it would just make more sense to have ammo pick ups instead. I mean, you're already going to make fire rounds for the big thing you're going to fight... why not just have the fire rounds available from the start?

  • Loot/item level. In most of these games you are Billy Badass Special Forces Commander Kill-em-All, why do you need item levels? Just give me a gun and let me loose. I don't need to be given a false sense of difficulty/accomplishment from deflated/inflated item stats. If I choose a specific gun, I want it to be because of how it handles relative to a different gun, not the same gun ten levels lower than it.

Loot in general is kind of a bad mechanic. For the life of me, I just can't get into something like Borderlands, Destiny or The Division.

Same.

Borderlands and Destiny are two of the most boring franchises I have ever experienced.

The Division 2 actually has good gameplay, however, so I can live with the loot mechanic.

Loot mechanics have even ruined games; i.e. Ghost Recon: Breakpoint. That game had a few problems but the loot aspect of it was arguably the largest problem. I swear to god 1/3 of the time I spend in that game is swapping out gear.

Given the fact that the 2nd industrial revolution had already happened in a lot of those worlds those games take place in. I find the idea of loot levels to be EXTREMELY silly, not only making the world super gamey. But the progression feel like a joke too.

Even if the devs insist on progression, there are better ways to do it. In modded Rimworld, I feel Significantly more powerful when my colonists have Modern Assault Rifles over AK-47s or Mosin Nagants. No item levels needed. It feels less gamey too. As a Mosin Nagant is still useful, since a shot can still be just as fatal if not more so, as the Mosin Nagants tend to make every single shot count.

I can think of some instances where you may have crafting in such a manner if you are trying to emulate a real work scenario where someone may have to make ammo, like a SHTF type of situation. But I notice that in general there are many features of one genre that permeate into a different genre, where they do not belong like this constant effort to blend RPG elements into FPS games. Some times I do not want to have to spend 100+ hours leveling up a character to unlock gear in a shooter. Sometimes, just sometimes I want to join the game and be able to kill stuff and blow shit up, and enjoy myself.

@davillain-: Multiplayer Achievements are also annoying if the game is really old and no one plays them anymore making the achievements impossible to achieve.

And that's fair. They are just their you wanna get them or not. They have always been optional.

Loot Boxes ive lost a lot of money on them and they are horrible they make yuou think you should open all your boxes and you will get something good.

I prefer the battle pass where you unlock new stuff and get really cool stuff at the end of the pass every level you get.

Why would you buy loot boxes if you hate them?

What is worse, regeneration, or a constant, never ending alert that you are low on health? Think "your health is low, do you have any potions, or food?" every 10 seconds.

DLC other than actual expansions.

Fighting games seem to be the worst with multiple battle passes.

Pre-order bonuses, just put that shit in the game or make it unlockable.

Giant waypoints to indicate where I'm supposed to go, I hate having giant arrows plopped on the screen.

Every game having to be open-world. Not sure if this is the new model, but some types of games to me were not meant to be one giant level.

Have you tried playing Assassin's Creed Odyssey? I just started the game and I originally set the parameters to exploration, which means no markers directing you where to go, but then I got dropped off in the world and there were "???" signs in every direction and I became overwhelmed in that huge world with no guidance so I just aimlessly wandered around and ended up with tons of extra side quests filling up the data log. I turned the guide mode back on to streamline my experience and it made the game much more manageable.

Point is a little guidance can be a good thing, depending on context.

I tried the Assassins Creed set in ancient Egypt. I think I played it for maybe an hour, thought it sucked, and uninstalled.

Regeneration.

At least in the alert case, there is usually a healing item nearby.

I don't know if this is a "modern" gaming feature, but I see it done a lot lately, more so than in the past. That is, if you're making a first person shooter, for the love of fucking god stop putting the camera in the chest of the character just so you can see your FPS style arms better. It makes the game feel like I am a midget. You get head-shot when your camera is clearly behind a barrier, and when you walk up to other characters you are staring them in the nipples. Just stop already. I hate playing an FPS game where i feel like my head is only 4 feet off the ground.
