What is wrong with Capcome? The last console Monster Hunter 2 on the PS2 didn't even manage to break 700k worldwide, and that's when ps2 had like 120 million consoles sold. Are they expecting 10 millions sold or what? Unlike WoW, this game is way too complex. If capcom had made it a lot more casual, it would have been sold better. This game is too hardcore for my taste.

Loved Monster hunter tri. Really great game and I recommend all Wii owners to get it. It's tough at first but when you get a hang over the game,it's great.

How much did the game sell in the US?

I'm glad the game sold so much, It's a fantastic game and deserves the sales. i don't know why Capcom would be unhappy with those sales.

Maybe when a Monster Hunter game comes out for the DS or the 3DS, then we can compare sales to the PSP.

Im asking cause if they are not happy with those sales on wii then it must be that the psp one sells tons more. I just want a answer.

Strange why PSP install base WW is less than Wii install base and nearly the same in Japan and its barely moving any software outside Japan so its fair to compare them.

It sold 1.8 million and Capcoms expected sales were 2 million. So it underperformed in their view (but didnt do bad). You should also mention MHtri is Capcoms best selling Wii game, overtaking RE4 Wii which is at 1.7 million.

Overall we have.

RE4 Wii - Amazing - SUCCESS

RE UC - Good - SUCCESS

Monster Hunter Tri - Great - SUCCESS

Zack and Wiki - Great - FLOP

Okami - Amazing - FLOP

RE DC - Average - FLOP

Dead Rising CTYD - Crap - FLOP

Spyborgs - Average - FLOP

EDIT: To be fair guys, MH really only became a phenomenon during the PSP installments, so its not exactly a fair comparison (regards to low PS2 sales).

There is no guarantee that would make it more successful. As the OP points out, it wasn't hugely popular on the PS2. Its greatest success has been on the PSP. Which makes some sense... given that the series' biggest audience is Japan and the Japanese market has been largely taken over by handhelds.

Monster Hunter on PS3 would be a huge success, the PS2 was not powerful enough for monster hunter. Just how awesome would the game look on PS3 and with online, the game would be huge

PS2 wasn't powerful enough? It's more powerful than the PSP.

The PS3 has sold about 5 million units in Japan. While PSP has sold more than two and a half times that.

And the PSP games look crap and have the same problems as the PS2, even the Wii Monster Hunter was ugly. If Capcom went all out with a huge budget and a lot of hype a proper Next Gen Monster Hunter would be massive,

Monster Hunter was originally released on the PlayStation 2 in 2004. the graphics weren't that bad for the time.

Capcom's profits just saw a 90% drop. The last thing they would want to do right now is produce a big budget home console title for what has ultimately proved to be a niche series outside of Japan and the PSP.

Hype doesn't always result in sales.

I agree. Monster Hunter sold like crap on the PS2 (compared to sales of the system :P)...they should be ecstatic it sold that much on the Wii (which I'll say is one impressive feat...games like these usually don't sell that great on the Wii :?).

Developing a a PS3/360/PC multiplat game would make sense though as those are the systems that Capcom has been most successful with in this generation.

I still don't understand why people keep comparing handheld to console. Do you really think that if a True RPG Pokemon like the one on the DS come out for the Wii, it would have sold as much on handheld as on the console? I think not. If it does, then Nintendo would have done it already. Also If install base matters, then why didn't PS2, which when Monster Hunter 2 came out, had like 120 millions almost double Wii installed base, only manage to break about 700k? So the moral of the story is, Monster Hunter games really never going to sell well on consoles. I still think if capcom casualizes Monster Hunter Tri or any future Monster Hunter game, it would have sold a lot more than just 2 million copies.

Putting this game on the 360 doesn't make much sense IMO. It's not a hugely popular system in Japan.

Pretty good sales.

If they aren't happy then I would imagine it's because they wanted to break into the console scene with the series. I'm sure a few more iterations will do it. It just happens that this is a very very popular handheld game, and that's where the majority of the fanbase is.

I mean I wouldn't expect Pokemon to sell as well on the Wii as it does on the DS because the fanbase has bought Nintendo handhelds since the Gameboy just to play it.

It would've sold 5 million if it was multiplat on the HD consoles. The reason it sells more on the PSP is that most people that own PSP are somewhat hardcore gamers: although the Wii has hardcore owners, the vast majority are casuals. Making the game more casual is a ridiculous statement. That would ruin the point of the franchise which is Demons Souls without lock-on against monsters (it did come first though, not insulting the game or anything).

I'd just like to point out that in Japan Monster Hunter Tri requires a subscription fee to play online so it's pretty obvious that it would sell less than the psp games.

How?! 360 isnt popular in Japan so pretty much zero copies would of sold on it. PS3 isnt as popular as the PS2 in Japan or worldwide and it still sold like crud on PS2. PSP owners are not "SOMEWHAT HARDCOREZ" its because Handhelds are more popular than ever worldwide and in Japan handhelds are #1, Pokemon sells millions upon millions on Handhelds but never aswell on the home consoles because differant consoles offer differant experiences which people want and on Handhelds MH sells unlike its counter part on consoles. Overall Nintendo's wii was the right choice as it has the highest ammount of people on it worldwide and japan, Cheapest to develop for.... Simples.

There is absolutely no reason to believe this. The PS2 outsold the competition by so much and had tons of hardcore owners and MH on the PS2 sold like crap. Why would it make any difference if it was on the PS3/360?

It has sold 1.8mil on the Wii so far.

Why couldn't it sell those numbers on the PS3 and 360 seperatively? Add another 400-500K on the PC and you have 4mil potentially copies for a PS3/360/PC multiplat Monster Hunter game.

That would make most sense for Capcom to do right now if you look at their sales this generation.

Developing a a PS3/360/PC multiplat game would make sense though as those are the systems that Capcom has been most successful with in this generation.

Putting this game on the 360 doesn't make much sense IMO. It's not a hugely popular system in Japan.

Tell that to Capcom who released Monster Hunter: Frontier on the 360 earlier this year.

I would agree with you though which is why I said multiplat on PS3/360 and PC and not 360 exclusive.

[QUOTE="Homesrfan"][QUOTE="Dibdibdobdobo"] Because everyone on PS3 / 360 / PC love Monster Hunter. Dibdibdobdobo
Oh okay. Guess I was wrong. :P

111% Wrong. You know MH would of been a success like Lost Planet franchise.

But it made total sense to release MH3 it on the Wii right?

There is zero evidence that it would have sold more on the PS3 or 360 but there is also zero evidence that it would have sold less.

The only thing you can look at is how the previous games Capcom has sold so far this generation and so far their PS3/360/PC multiplats have been much more successful than their Wii games. That doesn't guarantee anything but that is the only thing we can go by.

Well okay, the 360 did receive a port of the PC game released three years prior.

I suspect the real reason they chose the Wii is because they themselves were uncertain of how it would sell home console, and so picked the one with the biggest potential audience (particularly in Japan) and lowest development costs.
