The Wii version

The Force Unleashed is controlled via the Wii Remote and Nunchuk combination; the Wii Remote motion sensing is attached to the lead character's lightsaber, with the Nunchuk motion handling all of his Force powers.

Lucasarts is putting a lot of focus on the current generation Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 consoles of this game, pouring a ton of resources into technologies that affect object physics and character behavior. These technologies are clearly processor hungry, and the Wii hardware doesn't quite have the right stuff to utilize the same elements. But Krome Studios, the Wii version's developer, has programmed its own physics engine to handle all of the game's Force powers. Objects bounce around the environment realistically, and downed enemies flail around with natural ragdoll motions…and though these elements aren't quite as elaborate as the higher end consoles, they're still pretty impressive to see on the Wii system.

At the very least, the Wii version – at least in this still early stage of development – runs at a far smoother framerate than the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 editions. Even though the game still has several more months in development, in many places the action was running smoothly between 30 and 60 frames per second.

On top of the single player campaign, the Wii version of The Force Unleashed will have a two-player Duel Mode where players can take their pick from an assortment of about 30 unlockable characters and duke it out with another player on the same system. In the demo it was a "Best of Five" affair where the combatant who earns three wins in the fight walks away the winner. Power-ups will come into play that will enhance the characters' abilities during battle.

It looks better than what I was expecting. At least it reaches xbox quality. Good to see 'some' effort put in.

Where's you read that? Cause the IGN article lead me to belive that the wiimote controled the light saber, while the nunchuck controled force.

There's been a great deal of speculation over exactly how the Wii version will operate; by virtue of the wireless Wiimote, fans have hoped that this would be a true lightsaber simulation. Well, it looks like you're have to put those Star Wars kid moves back in the closet, because that's not how the Wii works. You do use the remote and nunchuck to perform lightsaber swings, but it's not a one-to-one experience. You do not stand in front of your television and wield a lightsaber in first-person, hacking away at Wookies and blocking laser shots like a gifted swordsman. It's essentially the same game as the PS3 and 360 games, but utilizing common Wiimote gestures to swing the saber

As a wii only owner Im happy to see that some effort has been put into this version, I had my doubts when I heard Krome(Ty the Tasmanian Tiger) Studios were developing but it seems like a relatively faithful version of its bigger brothers on the other console its good to see that they have optimised the games frame rate and have included a physics system (albeit far more basic) The duel mode also sounds interesting with 30 characters to choose from.

My main worry now is whether or not the motion controls will feel completely tacked on, Im not asking for 1:1 motion but i would like to see a large amount of movements with accurate detection, other than that i genuinely cant wait

Yeah, I don't think I 'need' 1:1 either, but as long as some kind of lightsaber control is implemtneted, I'll be happy.

I always hate these crossover generation games that get released on PS2 PS3,360, Wii, NDS and anything else they can port it to.

I know they always say they treat each version as it's own project and squeeze all they can from each one but saying that and what actually happens are always two different things.

I was going to wait for the PC port...but if the Wii version turns out to be alright, I might as well pick it up.

Sure, I'll be missing out on the awesome new physics engine, but there was nothing wrong with the old (Jedi Knight) physics engine, and the Wii version sounds like it will run at a reasonable framerate.

i was hearin people say that 1:1 control is impossible......and I dissagree; its no more impossible than MP3 and i bet you if nintendo was making the game ...1:1 would be implemented and well.

MP3 used the sensor bar, which requires different technology than swinging the remote.

Personally, I think that Super Mario Galaxy's 'balancing ball' control style could possibly work for a lightsaber game - point the remote straight up, and tilt it slightly to guard/attack.

Well being I have a Wii and a 360 I will just wait and see how the game is reviewed on each system. Who knows I may want it on both of them. :)

#1 The OG post was more of a "What the Wii can't do" than a "More Force Unleashed"

#2 I'm still waiting for 1:1 control of the Wii mote. Right now you can barely move the Wii mote and it generates the same animation as when you swing it wildly. If I rotates the remote in my hand, it'd be cool to see the onscreen character rotate it as well. I haven't heard of any game being able to get that precise, which I think is a shame.

#3 I'm still waiting to hear how this game plays. Will it play like the Jedi Knight series (which has had really good controls every time) or will it play like those garbagefest games like Revenge of the Sith? If its like Jedi Knight, i'll buy this game day one. If not, i'll probably never even touch this game.

Perhaps it'll be worth owning both the Wii and (either) PS3/360 versions.

1:1 may not be utilized in this game, but that doesn't mean it wont have extremely fun controls. Not to mention the duel mode could be loads of fun.

Either way, i'll reserve judgment(as we all should, but surely won't) until the games are released. For al we know the actual game will blow, and it will be nothing more then a demo for a great physics engine.
