because uncaged is more of the hardcore games. The titles you mentioned were CASUAL games. Sorry but kinect can never become a hardcore device.

first of all systems wars opinion of kinect carries about as much weight as a bagged lunch in a senate meeting. There is an incredible potential for what the kinect technology can be used for, but its not there yet. kinect is a really cool starting point...

Sorry but you havn't won anything.

Kinect isn't more accurate than Move and it can't play games better than Move. The 2 most important things about the hardwares Kinect fails.

Sales doesn't = quality

You hyped the sales which it can't fail at because of the 500+ million spend on advertising. Until you can prove me wrong on it being more accurate and able to play core games come back to me.

This. What I've seen so far look like tech demos, the way Wii Sports looked in 2006. A way to show off the tech but pretty shallow. I'm not going to make any judgement on it until it's pushed harder, with real core games.

NObody said that. And it goes to show that kinect is a pure flop if they already need to introduce hybrid gaming less than a month into the peripherals life.

KINECT YOU ARE PARTIALLY THE CONTROLLER.

I agree, Kinect could be used for others things, it has the potential, etc, as clearly stated in the article. MS demonstrated that during E3. But people need to stop thinking its the second coming of Jesus. Its cool tech but not Jesus, nor is it new.

exactly, i will go one step further and say that (and yes I own it) if you arent in some way interested and excited to see how this technology will evolve and become more refined then you seriously should either get out of gaming or your sitting in a hospital bed brain dead. despite the sensitivity nervous fanboys have to what the sales numbers of this device will be, it IS COOL TECHNOLOGY! I dont see how its that hard to admit.

Bla bla blah Mr. Tsunoda. I would be interested in a game like what he's describing, but all this talk means absolutely nothing to me until it materializes as a thing that's actually going to happen.

And please for the love of god don't let there ever be grenade throwing gestures. That kind of Kinect support should be avoided. But it won't be. Like how PS3 developers felt the need to shoehorn tilt into stuff for no ****ing reason.

I wouldn't say never, but I think MS realy limited themselves with using just a camera, I had the same thoughts about the EyeToy back when I first saw a commercial for it (well I had a bit more hate for the EyeToy even). But I'm really interested in seeing what gets made with the hybrid games.

I just think it's too difficult to make a "Core" game without any sort of controller, so the hybrid is probably the only way to go, and it's going to have to be an optional thing (i.e. like M.A.G. is on the move, or Killzone 3 will, etc.) where you can use Kinect with say a Halo or Gears game, or even Fable or something, but you can also turn off Kinect and play with just the controller. I think that's their best bet.

I see this potential talk all the time. Care to explain what exactly this "potential" is? So far, Kinect has shown exactly what we expected it to which was voice control (implementing that requires nothing but a mic) and flailing games.

So what is it exactly that you expect Kinect is going to do with all it's potenial and what exactly is it you expect from the "hybrid" that won't be just as possible on a controller/webcam?

no one here said MS wouldn't do hybrid gaming, they were actually saying quite the opposite. You can't play a lot of games without buttons/realistic weight in your hands.

Microsoft and you were saying that controller-less free gaming was the future, however, it looks like it doesn't work as well as they expected.

remember this thread that you made?
http://www.gamespot.com/pages/forums/show_msgs.php?topic_id=27487166&msg_id=326021962#326021962

"What will be the first game Kinect uses scanned objects from you to incorporate"

as for games? I'm not sure.

as for objects, I think the first one will be a controller.

looks like you're wrong again.

now it's time to see PNF disappear from this thread as he usually does when he's wrong

These companies always come out with the same crap: But Microsoft believes that the real potential for the voice recognition, motion-based technology is how they plan to use it with cell phones, computers and perhaps in the military and health industries. "Think about a world where machines understand what people want from them," said Kinect Creative Director Kudo Tsunoda. "You can see that extrapolate out to a host of other devices." Really? Seriously? Why not just be honest and say it's a plastic peripheral and we hope to sell enough to make some decent money? Just like when xbox live first came out and they said 'picture a world where you're selling t-shirts you made on xbox live which people can buy and use in tony hawk's pro skater, in a tournament they set up themselves sponsored by pepsi!' Yeah, cuz that really happened. "Picture a world where your TV has a cell processor and your PS3 and TV can both handle tasks together and your machine becomes twice as powerful!" Yeah, cuz that happened too.

I will say, when my wife brought a kinect home i was skeptical. I even was mad, as we had just got the wii last year. I plugged it in, and the initial startup/install began. I walked across the living room to pick up my drink, and it followed me exactly. It was almost pitch black in the livingroom, yet it sensed me perfectly. I was surprised. I finished installing it, calibrating it. Plopped in the Kinect Adventures. Spent 2 hours playing pointless shallow mini games. And you know what, it was INCREDIBLY fun. Everyone at my house(no one under 25yrs old) was going nuts, having fun and laughing their @55es off. I have yet to see ANY CONSOLE/GAME ever do this. Sure we've had fun getting drunk and playing rockband, but this was different... and no one was drunk XD Honestly, I understand how "hardcores" are threatened by this tech, and also by "casuals" but you have to remember, there will always be core games/consoles. And I don't ever hear "casuals" saying "THEY NEED TO STOP MAKING HARDCORE GAMES, I DONT PLAY THEM! NO ONE SHOULD"... yet for some reason, that is all hardcore players seem to do. Kinect works, very well in fact. And more importantly is INSANELY fun. If you don't like it, that is fine. But your opinion is not going to stop my friends and i from having hours and hours of fun. So maybe you should just get over it. Or *GASP* go and try it out.

Honestly alot of the hate is for the company that realeased it rather than the Kinect itself. Some of the worst offenders would never try it out as they have no way of doing so.

well, I experienced the same with the Wii. Family and friends came over and enjoy it in 2006-2007. Not so in 2010. I assume the same would be for Kinect except 4 players.

Ha ha, I remember them saying that.

But yes its not uncommon for any company to say stuff like this. Just par for the course really.

But people still have and use those things even after the initial buzz died off. It happens with any new thing HD movie viewing included.

I think the list of games that somewhat work pretty much point out the third biggest problem with this add-on. It doesn't really do too well with games where you need your character to run around in an open world.

Note: Before you ask, the biggest and second biggest problems are lack of compatibility with many setups and lack of quality titles. I'm sorry, but when your best argument for quality titles is a dancing game, I think it says something.

[QUOTE="Ninja-Hippo"]These companies always come out with the same crap: But Microsoft believes that the real potential for the voice recognition, motion-based technology is how they plan to use it with cell phones, computers and perhaps in the military and health industries. "Picture a world where your TV has a cell processor and your PS3 and TV can both handle tasks together and your machine becomes twice as powerful!" Yeah, cuz that happened too.carlisledavid79

Ha ha, I remember them saying that.

But yes its not uncommon for any company to say stuff like this. Just par for the course really.

Yea, BS from the companies is par for the course. That's why you look at what they actually have to offer and base your decisions on that rather than some image of the future they are trying to market. buying a Kinect because of some image of the future Microsoft is trying to put out there is doing the same thing now as buying a 360 back when it came out because you where some day going to be selling some t-shirt you made on the system or buying a PS3 when it came out because it was going to make your tv twice as powerfull. It's just stupid. I bought a PS3 and Xbox 360 because of what they have on them, not because of some theoretical future that's never going to happen. I'm looking at the Kinect and all I see is trash. Sure, they talk about some great image of some future, but I'm aware of how much that's worth.
