actually it covers most every thing in regards to stuff that can happen to a disc not just laser burning, or scratching by 360s, or it getting stuck and having to rip it out of the wii and ps3.

The $3 covers any damage to the disc for one year, meaning that they will give you a new one if it breaks for any reason.

The Stores are told to sell Warranties (for systems and discs), Subscriptions, and Reserves.
They are just doing their job, if you don't like it, don't buy that stuff.

I think this seems more than reasonable, really. All you've got to do is wait for one of your $60 games to get scratched or whatever and you'll appreciate this a lot more.

With some of the conditions I've seen games in, certain people should be jumping on the offer. I, however, don't get the insurance. If I'm paying on average 30+ for a game you bet your hide that I take care of it. On the other side of it though, I haven't had any freak accidents with discs yet.

if I had a 360 then I would buy this all the time (Gamecrazy does this as well) but if you take care of your discs and/or don't own a 360 than its pretty worthless imo.

considering it replaces games with any amount of damage for 1 year as long as it is in 1 piece makes it a steel. I work at the store and today someone came in with the circle scratch on a MW2 and no receipt, we replaced it with a new copy for 3$ and now he has the warranty for the next year too. Maybe my store is just awesome.

It does not cover laser burning or scratching by 360s as I understand it. Gamestop employees are informed about the circular scratch ring caused by Xbox 360 defects, which are not related to software defects. If they told you it covers that, get word from their manager, don't trust them but sure as **** hold them to it if they said it.

Indeed, I have had a couple people come back and get new ones, but we still make enough to offer the insurance. fun stat out of the 500 copies we sold of MW2 at midnight 103 got the 3$ insurance 100% of those were on the 360.

It's not entirely due to the hardware defect, the Playstation 3's Blu Ray discs have scratch resistant coating. Look through your used PS3 stock and compare it to the other systems....360, Wii, PS2....they all look like trash. PS3 used games are all smudgy but you take a rag to it and it looks good as new.

Oh I know this, I dont even offer the year insurance to people buying ps3 games for that reason. I have never had a game traded in on a blu ray that was scratched or returned for not working.

It does cover that. Technically they are told if someone brings back a 1/4th of a disc and can prove they bought a warranty they have to give them another disc no questions ask or if they dont have another disc store credit. The company sales millions of them and very few ever get returned so they aren't losing much of a profit.

What you can do to exploit this if you are a game collector is buy the warranty play the game for a couple months bring it back and get another sealed copy of the game (hoping they have a sealed copy and they don't remove it while giving it to you) and then selling it 30 years down the road for a ton of money.

i take really good care of my disc, but i know people who take no care at all and have so many unplayable games due to scratching them, i think this is a good idea for those who want it, atleast until game publishers start offering free 12 month warranties on disk (not going to happen).

If you wish to complain about a "new" copy being opened, then give the stores either money for blank cases for cover art, or the blank cases themselves. how else are they going to have the game displayed?

3sFan

$3 multiplied by x million is a lot of money.

$60 multiplied by x hundreds of thousands is a lot of money. You do realize that Gamestop's return policy on used games allows you to get a full refund back on a game because you didn't LIKE it? Effectively you have the ability to play any game you don't like for a net cost of zero and they have to honor it. Their warranty against the rings also isn't that unforgiving given it's a mere 5% of the total cost and allows you to recoup 100% of the cost of the investment. It's merely a warranty, no one's asking you to buy it, it's simply there if you want it. I'm not saying I agree with Gamestop, I say kill it with fire, but dear lord, the things you guys come up with to bash this company are ridiculous. How about you get upset about the multiple hundred percent markups on used games, the fact that the developers get none of that back, the fact that they always try to sell you **** and their stupid magazine subscription? Complain about those, at least you'd seem genuine.

That sounds like a good deal. But even if you think it's a rip off, no one is forcing you to pay for it. The employees are just required to give you the offer.

it's insurance. if you want it pay for it. don't cry if you choose to not get the insurance, and your disc gets burned or damaged in some other way that the insurance would have covered. i never get the insurance. i know that if i did that i'd either totally forget about it or lose the receipt to provide proof that i had it or end up buying it for a bunch of things that never broke and then neglecting to buy it for the one thing that did. too much stress :).

i dont care how they display or what they have to do to get what. but once that seal is cracked ITS USED. the same policy applies for returns so dont think for one instant that im buying that load of bull. if they want to charge me full price for an opened package the let me return my used game for full price. Sometimes those used games are the game that they check out for themselves.....since theyre entitled to take home a copy of the game for a certain period of time. im not paying full price for that crap so dont try to feed it to me...

another thing if you wanna get on the subject of gamespot needing money then why dont you talk about those stupid managers conventions where they just GIVE AWAY free games to the managers of the store to do whatever with. you tellin me they can afford to give away a free game to every manager of every gamestop but they cant afford a display case for one of every new game? BS....dude.
