This might be only for me, but does anyone wish that there were more shooter simulator games and players. I know that a lot of people play games to break away from reality, but I really wish more console players would be up for something like the ORIGINAL flashpoint (not the crappy 2nd one). I really wish people would play with more realism in games. I love MW2 and all but I really don't need shot guns shooting as far as assault rifles or people going rambo with 2 guns in thier hands. I just need more simulator shooters shooters.

They release them on the PC from time to time (like Arma 2, the real sequal to Operation Flashpoint)

they dont really work on consoles because they require an absurd amount of keys to play, rely heavily on user generated content, and have a tendency to be unscripted, meaning it would be problematic to run on a set piece of hardware.

Yea I play the first arma and OPF on my PC but there are really only 3 good ones out there, but most people I play games with don't do PC gaming so I wish there was a way to do it on consoles.

Yeah PC only for these I'm afraid, kinda niche. As the guy above says, try Arma 2, you may like it.

I really cant imagine ever playing these games on consoles...the one console sim I know of, was sold with some kind of additional controler to make it playable, and was so expensive as a result, that I doubt anybody bought it.

There are a couple released on the PC every year though, last year there was some big name, heli sim released on the PC that got really good reviews. And there is some WW2 plane sim about to be released that got scored pretty well on IGN.

Despite the excellent bullet physics...Red orchestra is not a sim.

The thing is, is that gaming is becoming more and more mainstream (unfortunately) and because of this developers know people who just joined the gaming scene will not have the patience to play games like ArmA and Gran Turismo. Like others are saying, if you wish to play many simulators, play pc. Otherwise, GT and Forza will be it.

Is it a mech sim? Is it realistic or something? I just don't get how you can have a sim for a mech. And RO isn't really a simulator.

noooooooope. This isn't MechAssault, which was an adaptation for the poor Xbox 1 controller, the company publishing it is owned by Jordan Weisman too, the creator of the series. Where as MechAssault had no affiliation with Jordan.

If that's what you're referring to.

right, but Im being realistic here. Even if the creater is the same, its still a big budget multiplatform game.

Budget is only going to affect the graphical outcome. I don't really see how it's going to take drastic effects, or any effect at all on game play. I doubt it's any different once the game engine is complete, once that's done, gameplay should be sealed.

just not graphics.

the higher the budget, the more the game is going to have to sell to break even, and the more their going to have to push the game towards mainstream audiences.

When was the last time you saw a big budget game targeted at a niche audience?

what you want are tactical shooters, not simulators. Even ARMA2 while hardcore has arcadish vehicle controls for example. Simulators have been doing remarkably well in last few years compared to previous gen. I mean ...in the last two years we've gotten well over 10 excellent simulators, often from categories that didn't see any new releases for a decade or so.

With tactical shooters the situation is worse, but not hopeless either. One just needs to broaded his gaming horizons. I mean..this year we got ARMA2, but also freeware America's Army 3 and mod Neo Tokyo. Older tactical mods like Project Reality or Insurgency are still going strong and getting updated and expanded quite often. So while we might not get swamped in new tactical shooters releases, there's definitly enough of it to not let us starve.

Propably, but there are many levels of sim Mechwarrior had, it definitly won't be on the level of MW3, but MW4 was pretty light sim and I could see something like that working on consoles too

ArmA II? The soldier aspects are highly slimline, however its broad focus is on simulating a large scale combat environment and combined forces.... Same devs as OFP so its expected. There really isn't a market for it on consoles, OFP2 is about as close as it gets.

Yeah that is the degree I expect from it to be honest... though Mercenaries was damn good. Saying that Mechwarrior Living Legends is quite true to MW3.
