@hardwenzen: that video made my day 🤣
Oblivion is my favorite by far. I played it when I was young and the lush open world fascinated me. That moment I first laid my eyes upon it after exiting the sewer is perhaps my best memory of a video game. Sure it had its issues but I was more than willing to look past them.
Skyrim felt "simpler" (some would say dumbed down) though combat was more enjoyable. But the world always felt kind of bland. Of course I really liked it and put hundreds of hours into it but never lived up to Oblivion.
I regret never playing Morrowind. From what people say it's the most unique and best RPG of the bunch.
i'm going to say modded oblivion. circa 2006 was a great era to be a pc gamer, a less cynical time, i used to enjoy far more games back then.
got so many great memories of little moments that came from exploration within the game, some of the vistas and views, the blanket of stars across the night sky, some of the weird and wonderful characters. such a charming, captivating game and the radiant ai did really make the place feel alive.
the main quest and all those oblivion gates was repetitive bobbins, but didn't spoil the experience, certainly in my mind. it's such a long time i can't remember what i did exactly but i did find a way to visit them as fewer times as possible. the thief's guild and dark brotherhood missions more then compensated, they were superb. good times. didn't like the shivering isles though, just didnt click
My favorite one is Morrowind, I just did a playthrough of that a few weeks ago. Oblivion may be the better balanced game, having a better combat system, and a better story, more flexibility than Skyrim. Skyrim is the worst. They stripped out most of the mechanics to appeal more to a common denominator, and the whole Viking thing was a bit lazy of an idea. Show us a more unique fantasy setting, put some actual creativity in it.
Morrowind>Oblivion>Skyrim
I don't think any of them are all that great, but Morrowind easily is the best. It has the best rpg mechanics and I like its world the best.
Oblivion for sure. Nothing beat the atmosphere, world, music score etc. It was my first non-GTA open world game too.
Skyrim was way too streamlined and casualised while at the same time had a much less interesting story, much worse OST, had zero of the charm of Oblivion etc etc. Yes there's plenty that Skyrim did better but I could not get past the first 60 hours or so, while Oblivion I played for maybe 400 hours.
Tried replaying Skyrim with the 4K/60 PS5 remaster and after being spoiled by From Software's best-in-class combat I simply cannot go back to clunky garbage combat.
