@DarkLink77:
Nice.
I've been looking at some 3D Fighter vids and it seems like Namco is pretty damn good with its Wake Up Game....... like by a signnificant margin........ in both Tekken and Soul Calibur.

I'm not a big fan of Tekken. It was designed pre-8 Way Run, and it shows.
@nini200:
It is ? I thought it was the Wii U controllers cause they use binary triggers.
Nope WiiU Pro controller is actually VERY responsive when it comes to inputs as it registers Diagonal Inputs correctly. The Xbox One controller is the worst for that sole reason, everything else on the Xbox One controller works fine. I do however wish that The WiiU Pro controller didn't use Binary Triggers.
@nini200:
But isn't that only good for Fighting Games ?
In every other genre.... particularly racing games doesn't the edge go to the Xbox Controller ? I think it does but that only because I play my fighters with the Analogue Sticks.
Yep it's great for fighting games. It works great for all other genres as well. It's a greatly designed controller. The triggers actually work well also, I just wish they used analog triggers.
Mortal Kombat X is very casual friendly with a fleshed out story and all the bells and whistles.
Killer Instinct is just a hardcore fighter with a very high skill ceiling and learning curve. If you're competitive and like harder games this would be the better choice.
As a guy who isn't all into fighting games, you are right. KI is tough to master.
Eh to be fair mastery in general is tough in a manner this forum doesn't accept. There is a time commitment necessary for that, the young-ins can't appreciate yet with all the free time they have.
Good point. In 2 weeks there is always a NEW game released that must be played. Its why I don't take user or professional scores seriously.
@nini200:
They actually do work simulaneously but the theres no games or any software designed around...... it takes up alot of processing power.
Yep that was the issue. It should be able to seamlessly handle at least 4 Gamepads especially since it is technically the primary controller for the system.
My very little experience with KI was that it played like ass and best button masher wins.
MKX may not be the king of fighting games but it is a lot of fun and has a surprisingly high learning curve. The online play could use work but it is at least playable this time unlike MK9...
I vote MKX.
My very little experience with KI was that it played like ass and best button masher wins.
Your little experience sounds like absolute zero as you have to properly hit the exact right sequence of buttons to trigger combos and continue hitting the right buttons to keep them going, not to mention attacks do not artificially thrust you forward like most fighting games and non combo attacks do next to no damage so this is 100% bullshit. Killer Instinct is the only fighting game I can think of on Earth that there is no possible way that you could happenstance beat a professional level player by button mashing just because of its unique mechanical design, it would get you absolutely no where.
The best advice I can give you is download Killer Instinct for free and try it with the one character. You'll immediately notice how steep the learning curve will be. If you like it enough go buy the Killer Instinct Combo Breaker Pack for $20, which is the season 1 characters on a physical disk. And if you like that enough then update your roster so you have everyone.
If at any point you are not liking it then I'd go with Mortal Kombat
@nyadc: I recall getting upwards to a 10+ hit combo mashing playing my buddy who also knew nothing of the game. I was very unimpressed with it and it was a game I had been kinda sad I couldn't get as I have a PS4 only.
It seriously felt stiffer than even the old MK's which is a freaking accomplishment. I would be willing to give it another chance down the road, but getting my hands on the game pretty well killed any interest I had in it.
@LostProphetFLCL:
Well if two dudes play a new fighting game then you can button mash and not really know how hard or deep the game actually is.
Thats how it was when I got DoA for the first time and got 7 hit combos constantly not know anything about the game....... you can get a whole more with KI.
@Lulu_Lulu:
Yeah, the yomi in KI is a lot of fun I think since there's that constant 2 way interaction cause of Combo Breakers, Counter Breakers, and Shadow Counters.
Mortal Kombat X is very casual friendly with a fleshed out story and all the bells and whistles.
Killer Instinct is just a hardcore fighter with a very high skill ceiling and learning curve. If you're competitive and like harder games this would be the better choice.
Not to mention the pacing in KI is much faster than MK, so your matches are much more frantic. Adds to the excitement of the fight.
@Lulu_Lulu:
Yeah, I really don't like get out of jail free breakers like MK. I think KI and Guilty Gear/BlazBlue have much better breaker systems where there's actually more to consider beyond the cost of 2 bars.
I don't know if EVERY fighting game needs options like KI (that's a whole different conversation) but there are certain games that really could use breakers like MVC cause of how one-sided matches can be.
@Lord_Omikron666:
like Street Fighter..... I think that game is way overdue for some Combo Interrupting Mechanics....... other than the Focus Attacks and Armoured Ex Moves.......
Edit.... Soul Calibur has the Guard Impact system...... which is....... something I guess but its "Just Guard" Mechanic is far superior....... I think that would be a better fit for MK.
Get Killer Instinct, it's cheaper for what is offered.
Mortal Kombat X won't be complete until about this time next year and will get the $40 "GOTY Edition" treatment with all the additional content.
@Lulu_Lulu:
Maybe, I'm not exactly the biggest Street Fighter expert that's been playing since vanilla SF4 or Third Strike, but some sort of breaker system could make the game more appealing for those that aren't monsters that put years into the game. That's just me.

This is also true and something I forgot to mention. You can get the whole package for $60 and you will get all the content as it releases or you can pick and choose the content you want.
Compare this to MKX which is full price, however much Goro costs since he was only free as a pre-order bonus, plus $30 for the Kombat Pack to get Jason, Tanya, Tremor, Predator, and the costumes as they come out.
@Lord_Omikron666:
My other issue with Street Fighter is its not execution friendly like Killer Instinct Or Mortal Kombat.........
I don't understand why its so important that the moves have to be so difficult to execute...... if things were easier to do then more people would have more access to the games depth instead of just losing because they know they shouldve jump cancelled that time but they lost simply because its beyond their ability to execute........
@Lulu_Lulu:
I wouldn't say MKX is very execution friendly either, it definitely has an execution barrier cause the cancel window is pretty tight and makes playing online a nightmare.
The argument for higher execution barriers is that it's meant for the higher level competition and is kinda the basis for the culmination of all your practice to be put into play and show that you can execute. I can agree with it to the extent that it makes higher level competitive play more exciting to watch and see people executing, but honestly understanding all the extensive matchup knowledge, OS's, frame data, along with mastering execution is just beyond me.
I should get back into Killer Instinct. Bought two characters, and that was it. But I like the announcer. ULTRAAAAA. Shit like that. It's cool.
@Lord_Omikron666:
Yeah Frame Data is BOOOOORRRIIIIIIIING !!! Sadly its just one of those things that has to be there for the sake of balance.
Mortal Kombat is simple...... it can be unforgiving with its speed sonetimes, especially if you try to do 2 hit special move combos.... .. but with Street Fighter....... I don't even know how to explain it..... you know characters like Fei Long, Cammy, Guile and especially Zangief have those special moves with an upward input in it..... I find that extremely annoying not because its hard but because it doesn't make sense to have sn upward command in a move where you're not suppose to be jumping....... I mean hard moves I get....... but things like Double Quarter Circles and Foward Down Forward make sense......... but diagonal half circles and full rotations less than 15 Frames is asking way too much.
I don't understand how this Match Up thing works..... I only found out about tier lists yesterday....
@freedomfreak:
The announcer has way too much dialogue mid battle....... I don't wana hear him say something after every exchange big or small..... that shit was fun as hell in Unreal Tournament : "HEAD SHOT !!!"
But in KI..... seriously....doesn't it bother you even just a tiny lil bit, Freedom ? :(
There's a game called Mortal Kombat you can try.
Along with that you can start KI free so not having both is silly.
Then again the retail game is like $15 bucks so get both anyway.
@freedomfreak:
I guess you hear it less because you are good at the game.... its a problem if you do short combos or if its a counter happy Fight...... theres only so many times I can stand to hear "Combo Breaker" !
Speaking of Which....... I have an issue with Hit Status is DoA........ you remember VF has this cool yellow flash to show when theres Counter Hit ? Why doesn't DoA do that too ?
I mean the hud isn't cluttered at all but....... I'm very dependent on those hit status measages on screen and would absolutely love it if they could use VF's flash System...... can you tell when to do Critical Bursts if you turn off The Hit Status ?
@Lulu_Lulu: Really? I mean, for me, it's probably the ignorance. When I see you talking about fighting games, it's like... what's he going on about? I don't mean that to bash you, Lulu, but I'm such a simple person when it comes down to it. I already told you how I beat Dark Souls.
Longsword and a shield. No magic. No class based grinding. No miracles. Nothing. I just went on with it. Hell, to you, I might be the most perfect gamer that has ever lived.
