what's the best game ever, iyo. plot, presentation, graphics, characters, action...
mine is gears of war.
This topic is locked from further discussion.
at the moment by fav game is LBP. My fav game ever was deus-ex I didn't enjoy gears of war much, although it was very pretty.
Uncharted was the first game i bothered to complete for ages. Can't wait for the next one.

wtf, man. Gears has the GREATEST melee weapon ever, chainsaw. and bad-ass guys and lots of actions. and also greatest kill. and torque bow!!
but iv heard good things about Deus ex. was it the story that made it so good?
It's a toss up between Baldurs Gate, Planescape: Torment, and Zork 1.
BTW: Deus Ex, Half Life, and System Shock 2 pwn all current FPSs...that is all.
IMO, Deus Ex is the best game ever made. Everything just comes together so well...thepwninatoragree 100%. I have not found a game yet that offered the same type of immersion. at the time you could not believe the sheer amount of options open to you. I remember walking into the bar in hells kitchen and litterally being floored that I could speak to everyone in the room (spoken dialogue), that conversations could branch in different directions, that I could even attack people and they would act realistically and fight me back!! Then you realise you can even play POOL!! God, at the time is was mind bending.
If Gears is your best game ever, you should play more games.
Anyway for overall best game which is what I think you really meant, OoT is still my favorite, followed very very closely by MM.
But if you're just talking about actual brilliance in exectution, Braid gets my vote. The ending makes your brain explode.
Deus Ex.sauronthehun
*high five*
Honorable mentions, for me, BTW, go to System Shock 2, Planescape Torment, Baldur's Gate 2 (with expansion), Freespace 2, and Total Annihilation.

don't get me wrong dude, i understand why people like it, it's just not my thing. Deus ex had a fantastic story but, importantly, at the time no other game offered such a good illusion of freedom. And it wasn't a glitch fest like Oblivion... it was a solid package that almost made you forget you were playing a game!IMO, Deus Ex is the best game ever made. Everything just comes together so well...thepwninatorEither that, or System Shock which is historically even more significant.

And did Deus Ex have better story than Final Fantasy 7, BiOShock and Gears.
[QUOTE="Vaasman"]What the ****. Do you have problems or something? Gears of War trumps any light, lame Zelda game. There is no action in Zelda and it's every same boring plot. Not all games need action to be enjoyable. One of my favorite games ever made was Monkey Island 3, and it had absolutely none (with the exception of insult sword-fighting, of course). If Gears is your best game ever, you should play more games.

To the first set of questions, yes, it sold well over a million copies, so one could say it was popular. To the second, yes, yes it did. The story is unparalleled in both presentation and form.

Since it's become obvious that you either are a troll or don't know what you are talking about, I'll just go ahead and leave you to your own devices. If Gears is your best game ever, you should play more games.

I guess it was quite popular. It was no run and gun shooter though, so i guess it wasn't to everyones taste. The story was kinda gritty future stuff. It's not easy to compare stories, so I can't really say it is better than bioshock or final fantasy... it was a bit more realistic in the sense it could happen in the future. What people loved about the game was the fact it gave you soooo much freedom.. well, the illusion of freedom. In fact, I don't think I've really felt as free in any game since. Morrowind and Oblivion style games tried, but they lost a coherent narative in the process. Deus ex gave you freedom, but the story was tight. I suggest you pick it up on steam. Graphics are dated (although you can download a high rez pack) but if you can look past that you will have a blast. Just dont try and horrible multiplayer mode that became available via a patch - it was not a multiplayer game and the devs should not have made the multiplayer add-on...[QUOTE="thepwninator"]IMO, Deus Ex is the best game ever made. As much as I enjoyed SS2, I enjoyed Deus Ex more-I think the overall plot presentation was more gripping-while they were both told just as well, Deus Ex's actual plot was more intriguing and...immersive (especially if you read all of the newspapers strewn around :) ).

This game is pure awesomeness wrapped in a package made of kicka$$
Indeed it is. Is that a bad attempt to be funny, or poorly constructed sarcasm? Mass Effect is brilliant (aside from the bugs that is).
Best game ever? Crap, I hate these questions. I guess I'd say Morrowind, or maybe Zelda: OOT/MM. It's unfair to lump all the genres together though.
EDIT: Silence of the Lambs is the best movie of all time? You have GOT to watch more movies.
OK, guys. But what I wondered was; What game equals Silence of the Lambs, The for movies? You kno,w that movie was brilliant with nice plot and excellent actors and so on!!!!!!!!!NewsKing

Hence my assertion that he is a troll. Hmm, I'm just trying to be impartial...Oh, and by the way I meant System Shock 1. I just consider many factors like technical prowess at the time, innovation (which first System Shock had written all over the place in every possible aspect), and the extent to which its influence spreads, and its influence is still visible in modern games such as Dead Space. Hell, there wouldn't be even Half-Life without first System Shock, the same would go for Deus Ex. Deus Ex, and System Shock 2 might be more enjoyable games and let's say "better product", and the ideas much more expanded, but no doubt that first System Shock was originator, and it was many years ahead of its time. That's how I see it :) It actually doesn't bother me if you disagree, because I know I can equally enjoy all of these games without even thinking which one is "better" than the other. If Ocarina of Time and Braid are your best games ever, you should play more games. :| Anyway, I say Super Mario Galaxy. Excellent platforming sequences, memorable music, incredible level design, tight controls, good length, great looking graphics/art style, etcetera... It's not without its flaws, though. There are a fair amount of stars that are just so simple to obtain that there really isn't any point in them existing. The game is way too easy, with only a few challenging levels. There isn't much of a story, but I guess you can't consider that to be a big deal in a Mario platformer... Can you?[QUOTE="thepwninator"][QUOTE="NewsKing"]If you have enough gaming knowledge to know what System Wars is, you should know that Mass Effect isn't a pr0n game. No, no, no. Seriously.
