After the NG3 fiasco going on, I just want to see what your thoughts are.

It could be making an extremely hard and long campaign into an easy peasy five hour roller coaster ride or turning a game of an obscure genre into a more common one. Basically a sequel to an already terrific game into something that appeals to bro gamers and the like.

I personally think casualization has to do with dumbing down the complexity of the mechanics in a game, not difficulty. Most hardcore games praised by the gaming community and critics are easy on normal.

For example MGS4 can be seen as dumbed down because you are almost never required to use stealth, it's possible to just run & gun. When something like stealth is optional that means the levels aren't optimized with stealth in mind and that can hurt the game. The run & gun itself can still be hard or easy difficulty wise, so it's not a matter of difficulty. Another example is removing RPG elements from ME.

Out of the games I've played this gen, Fable takes it. At this rate, it'll be just a slide-show in another game or two.

Just off the top of my head, reduced the amount of spells you can cast, got rid of the lifebar, got rid of the magic bar, no stat progression/armor stats, story went to absolute sh*t.

Splinter Cell Conviction? Maybe that wasn't casualised as such... more made really easy and took away the compulsary stealth...

That's what was so great about MGS4. Many different ways to tackle each situation you're faced with. Wouldn't call it dumbing down since the Stealth Elements are the same from previous MGS games, more like expanding. Mass Effect's RPG mechanics were dumbed down, so that would be an acceptable answer. But not MGS4

I don't remember the console versions having that. Played both CoD2 on PC and Xbox 360. Anyways, CoD was better before CoD4. CoD4 was good but everything went downhill from there. Enemy UAV Spotted every 10 seconds is annoying.

Because Ghost Recon is dead. Has been dead for quite some time now. The good parts of them are distant memories of the long past. Add Splinter Cell to the R.I.P list as well. Double Agent New Gen = Death.

comes to mind.

even a R-word can win at the game, you literally cannot lose.

Farmville has more strategy to it then SimCity Societies did.

Has to be MW2 or DA2. The difference being I still enjoyed DA2 despite the shocking downgrade (with some help from mods that reversed a lot of the changes).

Yeah I agree, that's not what I meant. I think some people see the mere fact that it's possible to finish the game without stealth as dumbed down.

Definitely Dragon Age 2. Possibly even Mass Effect 2. ME2 was much less of an RPG than ME1.
