I was debating with a friend which glitch was more popular. He said the Pac Man kill screen is the most popular because it's such an old and well known glitch, but I claimed Missingno from Pokemon was more famous even though it's more recent simply because everyone who had the game (millions) knew of it. I mean come on, people even cosplay as Missingno he's that popular!

MissingNo__by_MirielleChan.jpg

So what do you think SW, what is the most famous game glitch of all time in your opinion? Or if you will, what's your favourite glitch?

This actually happened to me when I played Max Payne 3 the other night. Kind of take the sadness and drama out of the scene :).

The swingset glitch in GTA IV comes to mind; It was super easy to do and could give you hours of fun in multiplayer and the outcome never was quite the same.

I'm pretty sure the most famous glitch is the infinite 1 up loop in the original Super Mario Brothers on the NES.

I remember getting so many lives glitching that turtle that the game couldn't even count them anymore, and on the level start screen it just showed some colors and ascii symbols as my lives remaining.

Anyways I'll go with Missingno myself or any of the other glitches in that game. Minus World is up there too.

Street Fighter 2. When doing a normal move if you did a special (fireball, dragon punch, etc) it would cancel the animation of the normal move and give you a free hit that the opponent couldn't block. Eventually players figured this out and it became a required tactic for tournament play. This invented the combo system in fighting games that are used to this day.

well cancels are an official thing now., and if i recall, the designers left it there on SF2 on purpose, because they figured no one would do it.

Sounds a lot like Wave Dashing on SSBM. A glitch that became an essential thing to master for pro gamers.

except wavedashing was 1- already a thing in other fighting games (and way easier to do) and 2- dropped from smash bros brawl.

That whole game was a classical giant glitch as far as I'm concerned haha.

Going reverse at over 1000 miles an hour looked so funny.

Definitely missingno as being the most famous, no other glitch comes close to it. Sure there are some that are better or more fun to watch like the Fallout New Vegas one with the creepy guy who's head spins while dragging his arms and legs across the floor.

No one told me not to fight the missingno... I saw the level of iirc level 157 and thought "holy crap I can't beat this thing".

Then I took it out in like one hit. The next thing I decided was maybe I should catch the thing...

After that it screwed up my elite four hall of fame...

My Hall of Fame got messed up simply by seeing it.

Loved having my 6th item duplicated by a million though.

Juggling (hitting your opponent while they were airborne) was also a glitch in Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo. Any new move that was in the game that was a mulit hit move would allow an additional hit if timed right. Example: Ryu's jumping medium punch, Bison's jumping medium punch, Fei Long's Chicken Wing.

When tourney players found out about the moves Capcom went back and promoted the game as being the first game to have juggles, even though it was never meant to have them.

Not combos, cancels.

Otherwise tatsus or shoryukens wouldnt do multiple hits.

The cancel happens because of inputleniency in the game for people, so that it would be easier to input special moves if you did, say Down, downforward, HP, forward.

It would cancel the move before it fully came out. IIRC, this only happens within the first 5 frames of the move, and the only cancelable moves in the OG SF2 were active within 5 frames. Or something like that.

I forgot all about the duplicate. Yeah that was freaking awesome :D.

Now that I think about it, I'm not sure if it was when I saw it or when I caught it that made my hall of fame mess up. I still think for me it was when I caught it.

An even crazier incident where I actually still don't know what happened was in Silver where my pokemon were randomly renamed like Tyranitar to Tyzanitar. Some of my pokemon transformed into other pokemon and their levels changed as well.

At one point I had a Raikou that turned into a Celebi but with the same cry and moves as Raikou. My game was freaking out haha.

In OG Street Fighter 2 ALL normal moves could be cancelled into Special Moves. Made for some ridiculous set ups. Going forward they toned down what could and couldn't be cancelled.
