For me it’s the Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Despite being a sequel, it felt very refreshing to me. The emergent open world gameplay had me hooked as far as wanting to see what else I could discover or experience. The traversal was awesome, being able to explore levels up in the sky, on the ground, or in the depths was fun and interesting. The new powers added a lot of creativity to the game and the puzzles were great. I also liked the darker setting this time, it made your experience feel more impactful. Overall, one of the best games I’ve played and it brought back memories of playing Ocarina of Time back in the day. How about you, SW? What is the most memorable game you’ve played the last 5 years?

There’s a few very memorable games that I’ve played in the last five years. Kind of hard to pick one overall. I guess I would go with Final Fantasy VII Rebirth.

Honourable mentions to:

- Elden Ring

- Tears of the Kingdom

Edit : Oh crap that was more then 5 years ago...

Maybe Control....? Unique setting, nice environmental destruction, cool set piece near the end. Dynamite protagonist.

Nier Automata had a really memorable soundtrack.....

Disco Elysium is still in for a couple of months. That's the first one that comes to mind - it's one of the best games ever made, with writing that puts pretty much every other game to shame.

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 + 2. Basically they were remakes of the first two Tony Hawk games. I loved the original versions and I think this remake was even better. The online play was a blast.

Elden Ring... I would say Tears of the Kingdom but its just not memorable at all for me, it was just Breath of the Wild 1.5.

Honestly not many games are memorable to me, most blur into one game especially if its a sequel. Elden Rings world and art style is stamped into my memory, only other games in the last decade that have done that is RD2 and Breath of The Wild.

For some reason I need a world and play the game long periods of time for it to stay in my memory.

Probably elden ring as I was completely consumed by it....game was satisfying on nearly every level of game design.

Honorable mentions...Dave the diver was wildly entertaining and although it came out more than 5 years ago, I first played metal gear rising revengence last year and its one of my all time favorite games. Best metal gear game ever made.

Definitely Alan Wake 2. I had never played the first game, but fell inlove with the sequel. The sequel caught me up with the story anyway, so no need to visit the first one. Other than that, I can't say any other game has been memorable to me.

Yeah, I'm really shocked people here didn't bother with it despite many thinking this is another Soul genre but really, Black Myth Wukong isn't your average soul game. Totally different (25% Souls material) but Elden Ring keeps overshadowing it. Black Myth and Elden Ring don't mix.

But as I said, it's definitely my GOTY so far. I just prefer that game over Elden Ring. No disrespect to the Elden Ring fans.

SOMA. It is not the BEST game I have played, buy holy moly, the story and setting are incredible. A truly memorable experience.

As for the game that game me the most enjoyment, I would choose Persona 5, Bloodstained Ritual of the Night, South Park Fractured but Whole, or Octopath Traveler.

@mycatismilk: I really want to play Alan Wake 2 because of how much I liked Control , but I'm holding out for a GOG version. Control to me felt like a culmination of everything Remedy had attempted before, but never quite nailed. I have always respected them for their style and unique ideas, but the gameplay never quite clicked for me (Yes, even Max Payne. Sorry). While Control isn't perfect, it's their first game where I felt every aspect; setting, story, presentation, gameplay was all great.

So I guess Control would be my most memorable game from the last 5 years :)

I really liked Deathloop 🫣. I thought it had an interesting premise and it was just a cool experience. I was really into when it dropped.

But now that i think about it, I would probably pick Tunic. A Link to the past was one of my first games and a modern game built on that nostalgia was just perfect. And it did some really clever things, which I won't even hint at, because I don't want to spoil the game for anyone.

Zelda Tears of the Kingdom is just beyond amazing and easily take the top spot for me. I have played it for hundreds of hours and I will likely play it for hundreds more over the years.

Honorable mention to Crystal Project. Made by just one guy, and MAN he cooked with that game. So much fun!
