What game is the most revolutionary? What is the most revolutionary system.

I think that there are a few revolutionary Games:

Goldeneye (First person-shooter)

Super Mario 64 (3-D platformer)

The Legend of Zelda Ocarine of Time (3-D action-adventure)

These are just a few of the many revolutional games that have helped our games of today to take place the way they are.

Wii Sports? If everyone is now talking about motion controls, then it's this game that showed that they can work to a mainstream audience.

Doom I guess

wolfenstein 3d certainly was more revolutionary than doom.

but both beat goldeneye... goldeneye was late to the fps party... and wasnt really revolutionary at all... it was just a well made fps.

Wolfenstein 3D and Doom were made by the same people.

Also it should be noted, before we had the First Person Shooter genre, they simply called all fps games Doom Clones.

I'm definitely going Zelda Ocarina of Time for this one. It displayed the capabilities of video games - and I'm sure pushed other developers to pumping out stuff at that quality or better. Mario helped too.

While it's not fair to say without these games - games like God of War would be in 2D, I don't think the release of action adventure games like aforementioned would be released any time soon, and many other games wouldn't be as quality as they are.

Wolfenstein 3D. It invented the genre that makes up like 60% of the videogames industry today (made-up statistic, before you jump on it before being made-up).

If revolutional is defined by its influence on games today, Wolfenstein 3D is the most revolutionalary game ever made.

In terms of multiplayer FPS gaming, I'd say the Unreal Tournament and Quake series were pretty major.

well several genres had more then 1 revolutional game

ill start by

racing-top gear snes before nascar before gran turismo thsi is the closest thing to simulation racing at least the first one , cause u had to use real strategy cause when you went to pit affects how you finish , ,

eg you pit with cpu you have lower chance of beating him but you may pass the other cpu that always ends up first if your not there

for first person shooters , goldeneye in 1997 became the stepping stone first succesful muiltiplayer fps on console and first critically achieved game on console overall

2000 timesplitters revolutionized it even more with adding a map maker no fps does have one on consoles

and fro obviosu reasons im not gonan even put halo in this

2006-red steel becomes first motion control fps that is close to a real

mortal kombat started the fighting game genre and kept it going up until recently

racing modern -granturismo is still the most revolutionized game in this genre but nascar is the only real life racing that is as good as a game as it is real life

so ya , ,

and im goin with the nintendo 64 and the nintendo wii for the 2 most revolutionized consoles ,

Super Mario Bros.-nuff said

The Legend of Zelda. One of the first games to say screw the arcade experience, Nintendo isnt just recreating it at home. This is something better, something new

Herzog Zwei- So revolutionary, people of the day didnt even understand it. It got terrible reviews because people played it like it was just a normal shooter, when its so much more. Its sighted as being the very beginning of the RTS genre and was one of, if not the best RTS for consoles ever.

Super Mario Kart- First split screen multiplayer game. Added so much to the racing genre basing some ideas off of R.C Pro Am but taking it to the very next level.

Super Mario 64- Basically created real 3D gaming as we know it

Halo CE- Console shooters might still be a complete joke without this game

I'm going to go ahead and say DOOM. It really brought the third dimension into the world of gaming we live in currently.

mariokart64fan
The thread clearly statees "Most Revolutional Game" and doesn't say console game. So we have to compare stuff to PCs. So since the PC comes into play we can't ignore games that were inovating and then a game based off of their style was put on a console.(Unless if they inovated it into a very better creation) Golden Eye might have actually made a want for FPS games on consoles but who knows if it even would have been a FPS if the other FPS games didn't exist before it. On a side note Mod Nation Racers isn't that inovative (not that anyone claimed it was in this topic) PC racing games have had make your own track for a long time, and the gameplay is simular to a generic kart racer. As for motion controlls Wii was really the first well known one because it was a manditory thing for new games from a well known company. And it might have been one of the best ones for the average person at the time of its release so it might have been revolutionary since it actually got motion controlles accepted into the world. I am not sure if I saw a platformer with creatable and shareable levels like LBP before, but aside from that it wasn't really that great. LBP2 might be revolutionary if they could make the average gamer actually able to make small games.(because aside from computer programing I don't think that has been done before.) And an odd thing not everything from the 2D mario games were created for mario. http://www.gamefaqs.com/features/top10/2111.html I really haven't looked to see what really started the domino chain for each genre, but for the most part you have to find those initial starters to find what started the revolutions. Then maybe look for what was the major "key dominos" that kept it alive or branched it out. I think a revolutioinary game is one that pushes the boundries of imagination, and dares to do stuff that hasn't been done before in gaming.

Half-Life is still pretty much the template for most single-player FPS campaigns. I don't know what continuing legacy Goldeneye has....

Goldeneye was no joke.

True but thats because of it wasnt just a flat out mindless shooter, it had missions objectives, it was alot smarter. Every other console shooter than gen was a joke (except pd) xD
