I think most of you know what game I'm talking about. Yoshi's Island baby and whats seperates it from the pack? How about one of the most bad*** boss battles ever. Don't believe me heres another

Often times forgotten due to its more popular brothers, Yoshi's Island is a game I wish more would aspire to be like, colourful, unique, quality and most important fun.

Socom Confrontation

What makes it stand out? The fact that it's one of the few games out there that makes you rely on teammates and teamwork. It also has possibly the best community of any game on consoles.

I'll just name some this gen...

-Sonic Unleashed

It's not crappy like Sonic '06/Next Gen. Has beautiful graphics. Just all out fun, imo.

-Rise of the Argonauts

It's an action/RPG like Mass Effect, but set in mythological times. It has its flaws, but so did Mass Effect. It's not as good as Mass Effect, but it's definitely a high A-low AA title.

-Dark Sector (It's not underrated here, but definitely underappreciated.)

A game that was written off as a Gears clone, but the Glaive is freaking sweet, and it's a well polished game.

-Golden Axe: Beast Rider

Just a fun hack n' slash with big beasts to ride and cause chaos with.

-Frontlines: Fuel of War

An awesome open world FPS. It's not so open that you get lost, but it still allows a great sense of freedom.

-Too Human

I liked the analog stick combat and found it to be fun.

-The Last Remnant

The union combat is quite refreshing, and the characters are pretty good.

-Siren: New Translation/Blood Curse

One of the most horrific games in a long time.

This thread would probably be more effective if I coud figure out how to post actual pics lol but anyway, part of the reason this thread exists iis to find out why a lot of gamers hold these games so high and maybe find out why they are ignored by the general public

I'll tell you why Socom is ignored because of the crap scores it received due to the crap launch and the fact that it's not for everyone. No respawn in ranked games = no casual appeal....realistic character movement and damage = no casual appeal.... no auto aim = no casual appeal

Slant Six could have gone the arcady route to try and pull in a bigger audience but I for one am glad they didn't.

Thanks for the reply. This is what I'm trying to learn. The talk of the big games is nice but lets here about the smaller more underappreciated games and why their devoted fanbase loves them. That way you get some impressions from other people and maybe find something you may be interested in.

BioShockOwnz

Which version did you play? the 360 or the ps3

Anyway, the game sucked and, it was not polished enough on the ps3, but I believe it has potential.

I agree, the Glaive was sweet. I also like the fact that you were given the ability to cloak and shield yourself.

crackdown. One of the few 360 games i thought were really great and a lot of lemmings never brought this baby up. It was actually one of the few games i got 1000/1000 achievements on also.

Crash Commando

Very fun and addicting side scroller shooter only $9.99. Gamespot doesn't even know it's out, and when I checked yesterday it had less than 5000 downloads. Scored an 8.5 on IGN though

That's a lot of games, Golden Axe: Beast Rider, the reviews forced me not to try it, and I grew up with Golden Axe games on the Sega Genesis, should I play it?

I have almost never seen anyone mention Freespace 2 (except for when I bring it up myself :P ), and that was an amazing game. Also, Too Human, in spite of its flaws, is definitely nowhere near as bad as most people here think it is (It's probably the best bad game I've ever played, if that makes any sense ;) ). It is, at its core, an amazing game. It simply has a fair amount of...questionable design decisions that get in the way of the sheer, unadulterated win that is its core; if you can pull away or look past these design decisions (like the lack of death penalty, which screws with co-op balance, and the overemphasis on cyberspace), it will be absolutely amazing. Here's hoping that, if they do a sequel, they fix the minor problems with the first that, together, brought it down :)

Crazy Signs Game 2, AKA Yakuza 2
Sega ****ed up and didn't release it outside Japan until September this year. For the PS2. And for that reason few people seem to have gotten to play it, which is a shame, cause the game kicks ass. You play as Kazuma Kiryu and your mission is to be badass and kick ass. Kazuma Kiryu punches a tiger in the face, enough said.

Supporting this game may send signals to Sega telling them they need to hurry up with the localization of Yakuza 3. YAKUZA 3 HAS PRETTY GRAPHICS. YOU ALL LIKE PRETTY GRAPHICS DON'T YOU? MMM, YES YOU DO!

Test Drive Unlimited
This game lets you experience part of what those blokes from Top Gear are raving on about. Somehoe, for some reason, this feels like a proper car game. It's not so much about racing as it is about the cars. This is a game where you find pleasure in just aimlessly cruising around and chilling. Another part of the game, which is a concept that's just brilliant, is that other players from around the world populate yours through some sort of magic. So you'll be cruising around at highway speed and some guy in car (or on a bike bike) blows past you like a mad man. And then you'll have yourself a little impromptu racing, just like that. It's a wonderfully fantastic concept that deserves to be developed further. Get on it already FFS. I'm looking at you EA.

Timeshift indeed deserves to be mentioned.

Timeshift
Under its guise of a mediocre, generic shooter lies a game with some neat ideas and well-designed implementation of said ideas. You can tell that these people might have the potential to deliver a legitimately great game, if the development process isn't ****ed up like Timeshift's was. I am honestly looking forward to seeing Saber's next project, if that still exists...

Like Yakuza 2 and Test Drive Unlimited, Timeshift should basically cost free. So go out and buy all three or you suck.

Anubis: Zone of the Enders (Zone of the Enders: The Second Runner in North America)

The first game was good but the second game was something literally our of this world. It was a commercial flop despite being one of the best titles on the PS2.

I've been getting into the ZOE anime recently because I finally ordered a copy of the second game for myself off eBay. I am very quickly becoming a huge ZOE fan. The depth of the politics associated with the BAHRAM and UN Earth Forces conflict is incredible (not to mention, Dolores is hilarious). It has been far too long since I played the second game. Far too long.

I'd have to say LittleBigPlanet. Even though the reviews for the game were pretty good, the sales have been horrible which is incredibly disappointing. Not only do you get about 60 single player levels, which I thought were pretty enjoyable, but making your own level is very easy, fun, and totally addicting. I think the tools the developers gave us to make our own levels have been greatly under appreciated by many PS3 owners. With LBP we actually have the opportunity to tell our own stories and perhaps make an impact on each other. And even if you don't make your own levels there's 50 pages of user levels which are constantly changing which means the game has the potential to live on as long as the servers are still up.

I love the suit. It's just too bad they ditched the story, because they wanted to make you feel like you were the suit. Lame.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky. Its predecessor is often praised on here as the most innovative and atmospheric FPS of all time, and that's because it was. However, Clear Sky is overlooked because it somehow managed to be even buggier on release than Shadow of Chernobyl (which really is an "incredible" achievement). But, if you can get past the bugs, it's better than Shadow of Chernobyl in pretty much every possible way. I think once it gets a patch (or six of them), it'll start to come around.

That is actually what I am waiting for. I didn't play the first game until just under a year after its release and was treated to an absolutely amazing experience without bugs. I can't go from that to a buggy mess.

I really love Call of Cthulhu. Thanks for reminding me, I should really finish that game. (I got sidetracked by a few other games at the time) There such great atmosphere in that game. This gen I was really suprised how much I liked the Darkness and Overlord.

It is one of the few games that I downright disliked. I play many games types of games but if I were to make a listed of games which I though were the worse. Crackdown would be one of the top 5 games.

One of the parts of the game I really disliked would be. The little Icons in the game that said if you buy the Download then this would be here. I don't mind there is DL extras but there does not need to be an add for it in the game. The storyline was downright bad, it seemed like a poor writer verison of Robocop.

I personally found this game to be the best rpg since bloodlines .... Decent story, great characters with a amazingly etched out personality and history, cool combat (if you like DnD combat), lots of interesting places to visit (like visiting the floating bones of a dying god etc), really great voice overs (each characters vocie matched its personality beautifully ) and sounds (like the witches' coven had the silent eiree sound wiht the crying of the witch) , lots of great use stats and so on

Audiosurf. it's probably the best non-Bemani rhythm game to come out in a long time (not that GH/RB are bad, but still)

My single most under appreciated gem is this game^^^^^^. It capitalized on the 1st one on so many levels, and was one of the 1st ps3 exclusives to be released in Q4 to have reached 1 mill sales worldwide, yet this game is rarely mentioned and very underrated:(
