That wasn't Entirely THIS GEN...DBZ:B3 is a LAST GEN GAME. I think it was a PS3/360 port, but that's not really a good thing.
I say BlazBlue!
This is true...shooters replaced it as the most played genreMost fighting games are underrated, it's slowly turning into a niche genre.

Well i got it on WiiI think that the naruto game on 360 (although its got both action adventure and fighting elements too it,) is pretty underrated, a lot of people I know hate it simply because it is called Naruto, but under the name is really good solid gameplay.

I was kidding, and Sure it was on current gen systems, but it was PS2 code all the way. I guess it stands, but I just thought I'd let you know.
These transitional titles are funny beasts.
I still say BlazBlue though. :)
The gameplay isn't very balanced; there's no way to block a low attack except by jumping.I think that the naruto game on 360 (although its got both action adventure and fighting elements too it,) is pretty underrated, a lot of people I know hate it simply because it is called Naruto, but under the name is really good solid gameplay.

yeah I guess i see what your saying, IDK Ive always been a more offensive then defensive fighter anyways so I only have to deal with that stuff on rare occasions :P
Dead or Alive 4, because it's a 360 exclusive and it's awesome, though the final boss is so cheap.
mitu123
I thought DOA4 was good, I own the whole series, but it's very casual in it's approach. More Pizzaz than technique, more Flash than Substance. Fun though, fo sho.

Well, yeah, but as long as you like it, that's fine with me.:PI think I'm gonna win with this one as I've seen much hate for it, but I'm gonna say Soul Calibur IV.
The game IS great, the graphics are also great. It has a really good customization and the challenges it has are hard.
What's broken is the online, but in some sense, it's not a game flaw, is the people who makes it bad just spamming moves like crazy... and most of them picking Kilik. I have no problem losing against someone skilled at this game really.
[QUOTE="Yandere"]I hate to break it to u, but the fighting game genre has been niche for almost a decadeMost fighting games are underrated, it's slowly turning into a niche genre.

Pffh, it matters what you call niche.. When fighting games get sales like visual novels in America then I'll believe you.

although it is a button masher, it's fun as hell
lol...any fighting game can be a button masher, you will get crushed if you play with a skilled played that knows combos and attacks tho....winner! I agree with this statement, the sole reason why i bought a 360!Dead or Alive 4, because it's a 360 exclusive and it's awesome, though the final boss is so cheap.
mitu123
Dead or Alive 4 by a long long long long long shot.
However i dont think its actually underrated, more forgotten since it came out at launch. Anyway, graphically speaking, its still one of the top dogs. ALthough everyone might not enjoy the pick up and play sort of gameplay, i love it.
It also contains features that no fighter today includes. This is probably the most complete fighting game this gen (not including brawl). Seriously guys, just play it. You'll wonder why the hell no-one is copying it.

Well i got it on WiiA last gen game port is still Last Gen + the Wii is last gen.
I agree with DBZ:BT3 also think the CoN series doesn't get enough respect heremurat8No the Naruto: Clash of Ninja titles never get any respect, and to that I say Clash of Ninja Revolution 2 for the Wii is the most underrated fighter this gen. I got this before I got irritated with Naruto milk.
I would say Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo HD Remix. IMO has the best music, and the best online of any fighter this gen. Ah if only it still had a community D: I mean it had tournaments, it had lobby's where you could spectate, something for some ridiculous reason street fighter 4 doesnt have, i mean every fighter should be based around the way Turbo HD remix's online is set up.

Fighting games are a niche, on any standard. Visual novels shouldn't even be called a niche genre, in the US they're all but nonexistentYou can do low blocks in both of the Naruto 360 games. You have to hit down and block and the same time.
The bad thing abotu those games is how the fighting is by far the best aspect but it's totally undocumented. They don't tell you how to do most of the techniques, which is why alot of people don't know that you can low block. They also tell you the incorrect way of doing a replacement jutsu, which is a critical feature of the game. Outside of that, the games are alot of fun. The fighting system at it's core is one of the better ones in a fighting game, but man they didn't balance the game for crap.
You've got characters who can endlessly loop stun moves like Tayuya and Shikamaru. A critical part of the game requires either distance from your opponent or you knocking them on the ground long enough so that you can do a super move. They give Itachi the best long rang abilities, turbo speed shurikens, a two hit combo that knocks you on the ground for like 5 seconds (which is basically instant death in this game) and then a super that's one of the fastest to execute in the entire game that gives him like 8 auto blocks even at it's weakest level.
Other than that, the games is alot of fun. More fighting games need to copy the idea of teleporting out of a combo or a mid combo parry. It adds an element to the gameplay that always keeps you on your toes. I don't know any other game where you can punch someone, they teleport behind you and try to do a combo, you teleport out of the first hit of that combo and knock them in the air and go for an air combo, they teleport behind you on the first hit and do an air dash to catch you for an air combo, you teleport out of that and then throw them on the ground. None of that is easy to do and requires pretty sharp timing to pull off so it gets crazy.
But the balancing is so poor that it's hard for me to call it underrated. The Wii games don't get a fair shake imo. They don't have any mid fight minigames which makes them better fighters by default imo. The balancing pretty good and the speed is nice. The only bad thing is that they aren't online so unless you're a little kid or you're in a dorm you'll only be able to fight the computer.
Virtua Fighter 5.Shafftehr
Indeed. Apparently being one of the deepest and best 3D Fighting Games ever made only gets you an 8.5 here if the reviewer doesn't like the menus.
Dead or Alive 4. It might still be pick-up-and-play friendly but holy hell have they fine-tuned the fighting system. It's not as deep as Virtua Fighter or Street Fighter, but a noob won't be able to take on a seasoned pro anymore.

FrozenLiquid
Indeed. It's still not the best fighting game ever or anything, but it is leaps and bounds ahead of its predecessor now that the counters are more difficult to pull off. Plus, Dead or Alive has always had one of my favorite character rosters.
i can't find that or VF 5 new :( Im trying to add fighters to my library for reasons such as 1- putting my arcade stick to use 2- Playing more fighters, might help getting good at themFor people who say Dead or Alive 4, congrats, I agree, it was the 2nd game I got for 360.
mitu123
Mortal Kombat VS DC. I mean come on it can't be that bad can it? Nobody ever talks about it.
Soon to be KOFXII as well you know its the cool thing to hate on KOF.

And yeah, Virtua Fighter takes skill, I played the 4th one on PS2 and man that took skill. I only tried the demo of VF 5 though. I'm trying to play more fighters as well, can't get tired of them. For people who say Dead or Alive 4, congrats, I agree, it was the 2nd game I got for 360.

Virtua Fighter 5. THat game is the deepest 3-D fighter......and oh my god is it hard :(...I could not possibly suck at any other game more than i do at VF 5. jg4xchamp
i was playing Virtua Fighter 2 with the virtua stick on my saturn, and i played it for days trying to get better, and i thought i was starting to get pretty good but then My mom walks in, I ended up fighting her, she double perfected me.. lmao, in the rematch i got a few hits in and she still destroyed me and she never even plays any videogames like at all, especially not fighters, i quit virtua fighter like right after
