Banjo Kazooie N&B in LOGBOX 720
LBP: most prefab levels
castle crashers
de blob is rather Ewwwww byt hose pics, its art stlye is not really anything to write home about, now Okami on the othe hand, now THERE is an art style. i didn't think a ps2 game could look so stunningly beautyful after the HD consoles had come about but i was proved so very wrong. thegoldenpoo
Those pics don't do it justice, you have to see it in motion or play it. Its not an epic art style, but the way the color stands out among the gray, the multiple styles for each color, and the way the color connects to the music makes it have one of the most unique art styles out there.
agreed. It makes TP look muddy and brown in comparason.Zelda WindWaker
Dunno how they done it, but it still looks great even today.
EuroMafia
Eternal Sonata looks very pretty. Shame it was really linear :/. I think if you want to create a visually appealing world, like the case with Okami, you have to make that world open to exploration. Just forcing you through a series of set piece battles until you reach the end is wasted potential if you ask me, espically when it comes to RPG's. That's probably why alot of games are opting for a more open world aproach these days. It's a shame Okami never took off. I'm playing it right now, and not only does it make the best of it's potential, it also maintains the great gameplay people have come to expect from the Action Adventure genre. I find it a bit hypocritical how people complain that Games will never be accepted as an art form, when they them selves would never even touch a game like Okami, obviously not all, but quite alot. But that goes without saying. Okami's lack of success was probably more due to the fact that the people who would have been intrested in the game were already too much involved with the "Next Generation", and thosse that were left behind were not really as "intense" as the gamers Okami appeals to. I know I'm getting side tracked, but I just find it quite sad.
Anyway other games with less focus on their art style might include say, Heavenly Sword, Bioshock, Fallout 3 (The distinct diffrences between the 1950's style of living and the current post apocolyptic setting, creates a succesfully disturbing contrast, similar to Bioshock in many ways. Arguably Fallout 1 and 2 did this first, but they don't really look very artistic by todays standards.) and PGR 4 (I know, it sounds ridiculous, but this is as close to art as a modern day street racer will probably ever come. Technically it's more down to technical achivements, but the concept of driving and drifitng through snow covered cities, or rain soaked race courses, with lightning striking in the distance, is visually stricking in a way that no other racer I have seen can pull off.)

I think someone did, but I just got sick of mentioning it myself to be honest. Definatly falls under the "special" category. Notice that most of these games are action/adventure? I wonder why.
