I had this conversation once with someone on what direction gameplay is going to go as far as using motion sensor technology the WII has started or not. Do you think in the future consoles controllers will completely implement motion sensor technology as replacing our current joystick/button style, or will there always be a console out there that will stay with the traditional approach? Some have complained that motion sensor gameplay requires too much physical energy for those wishing just to relax. Others have suggested it will evolve even futher than it is now by using advanced cameras that will detect movement like your eyes making physical exertion a minimal thing. One of the nice things I've noticed about this new direction is that games can really feel three-dimensional. Traditional controllers feel more designed with 2-D settings.

Nah. I'm sure they'll think of some new gimmick to tack on though.

I think motion control could be neat for a select few things, but even then I would say it still feels just gimmicky (and maybe it's the quality that I have issues with not the concept).

However, there are many games/genres that just don't seem likely to gain from this control type. So I hope it doesn't become a standard of the future.

Good for all of you. The 360 and PS3 are just pale shadows of the PC, anyway. The entire gaming industry would be better if there was a mass market for Wii games and a hardcore market of PC games. None of this "360/PS3" BS. Those two consoles profess to being hardcore systems, but in truth their games are even more casual and diluted than the Wii and they don't even know it.

I hope to God this never happens. The Wii really doesn't make it feel any more immersive, just a gimmicky add-on to regular gaming.

no, but the DS and the Wii will set a trend in different and more intuitive controls. We got used to the control pads, but the fact is that they have too many buttons and that they are highly un-intuitive (i'm sure people will say they are very intuitive, but they're NOT, you just got used to them. that's diofferent).

It will and I look forward to it. Standard controls will probably always be used as well though. But what is wrong with having both conbtrol types? You can still play you Wii with a gamepad if you wish. I prefer the Wii mote when playing. The motion sensing will get better as well, making motion sensing the best option for fps, even better than a mouse.

Als I believe motion tracking will be used for gaming, like in the move The Island. Motion tracking was used in Polar Express and Beowulf. It is also used to make the animation for video games. Like in a wrestling game the wrestlers acts out the moves and they are recorded with motion tracking. Right now you can control a animated character live with motion tracking. Whatever movements you make the live 3d person on the screen makes. If you jump he jumps, and if you do a spining back kick so does he. If you remember in the movie The Island the two main characters fought each other in a holographic ring. Whatever they did the hologram did. I think it would be cool to use this technology for a fighting game. It would not be fore everyone of course but for the few that like to stay active it would be a great work out and loads of fun.

Go to this post to see one way that motion sensing could change the face of gaming. Personally I hope this is the way that gaming is headed.

Unless you are playing "Help I'm on FIRE!" game, waving the Wiimote around isn't nearly as "immersive" as fanboys would make it out to be. The technology isn't nearly at the stage where it could actually replace regular controllers. For it to be viable as the only standard for all kinds of gaming, it would need to be at the stage where you put on motion sensor gloves and body sensors and have your actual movements replicated on whatever type of screen being used. For FPS games, you'd probably need to hold a replica gun as a special controller, and I'm sure the anti game **** in the world wouldn't look too fondly on this I imagine. :)

o_o I think there will always be buttons.
In our life time, at least.

And to the people claiming they would move to PC if this were to happen:
o_o; You're not gamers.

Silly of me to ask but... could you post some proof?
It appeared to me he was just using the PC to connect it to his television.
