Uhm...it's really not that hard to do what a message on a console tells you what to do. It's called an update. It's not hard. Man, you guys are getting lazy.

I highly doubt the fact that motorstorm updates require the user to manually reboot will cause sony's downfall. You don't even need to get up to reboot it, you can shut it down and start it back up with the controller. This is a ridiculous gripe.
i know, like when the oven beeps to say something is done cooking, i have to actually go down and turn it off, then take the food out, what a rip off. the microwave is the same friggin way. my god when will they make all this automatic so i dont have to spend precious seconds of my life doing it.Gzus666
lol nice one. :D

So I just installed the Motorstorm update, and was prompted to reboot my PS3. Seriously, who designed this system? That's something that could have been done automatically with a simple "Restarting..." message. When I did so, it beeped at me 3 times. Why? Who knows - it never said what the problem was!
Game consoles are appliances - you should never need to think about how it does something, it should do it for you. I know I keep harping on how Sony's developers miss all the small details that their hardware designers get right, but damn it, the small details are the difference between software you hate using, and software you don't even think about using.lowe0
Uh....ok? But it works right?
A lot of you seem to be missing my point... it's not that I'm too lazy to push the button, but since there's no longer any sort of meaningul interaction I can have with the software until it's restarted, then why not do it for me? And why reboot the whole system, when it's just a single program that changed?Nope..you're just lazy and this is the worst gripe about any system I have EVER read!I'm out!
It's just another example of where the PS3's software developers haven't designed a system that is as easy to use as possible.
Read this to get an idea of what I'm talking about:http://www.joelonsoftware.com/items/2007/06/07.html
And yeah, the Wii's update menu isn't a whole lot better.lowe0
PFFT, what a rip off! $600 console has to get MANUALLY rebooted. Wow, maybe if Sony spent more time on the system then on Blu-*** maybe we wouldn't be having these problems, AMIRITE?SergeantSnitchImagine paying $250 for a Gamecube with a new controller and worse games?
Wii fantards, dont ask me why

Wow, maybe if Sony spent more time on the system then on Blu-*** maybe we wouldn't be having these problems, AMIRITE?SergeantSnitchMy PC cost 1600$ And I have to "Manually" reboot it.With a PS3 you just press the home button on the controller, you guys are such.......I don't want to get modded!
yea, when things dont automatically reboot on an update from a game that has nothing to do with Sony, sometimes i sit in the corner and cry, and just scream "what do i do?". i curl up into a ball, quiver, and have a mental breakdown. i mean, thats a complicated procedure. not any paint sniffing, lobotomized hobo could restart something. that pushes the boundaries of advanced physics.
maybe someday everything will be so simple that we wont have to actually get smart enough to use the thing, keeping everyone ignorant, which is obviously progress.
what's up with the Motorstorm update? something wrong with it? I haven't played Motorstorm on purpose since the beginning of April. someone give me the cliffnotes, please.Dreams-VisionsNothingswrong with it,it works fine. You just have to...get this.....Reboot your PS3....Oh the horror!!!

well you know cows are lazy thats why their against multi disc games because at one point in that 100 hour game your going to have to get up!!!
lol cows are so hypocritical, they say "you're too lazy to restart the system?!!?!?!" but they are too lazy to switch discs? :lol:Rob2223
switching discs is fine in RPG's, its a pain in the ass in most other games. i switched discs in FF7, wasnt that big a deal.
When I update my computer it makes me turn it off myself too.
It bugs the crap out of me I may stop using PCs!
Why can't game companies understand that I'm too lazy to do things myself?
But seriously, every game console does that.

Never knew that, but yeah, restarting a console is no big deal at all.
I don't think it's even a deal.

Probably fat, lazy 34 year old nerds who live in their parents basement that cant even be bothered to get up and press the restart button.

Here we have a comeback by a person trying to throw seniority around.
Rarely does it even work.
Judging by the topic title I thought your PS3 bricked up and broke, but no, youre complaining about THIS
If Sony defaulted it to auto-shutoff, youd be making a thread complaining about the reverse:roll:

Anyway, it seems this thread has concluded with a resounding "Stop whining."
You know, I'm not bothered by the fact that you all think I'm whining (I love the part about being a 34-year-old slob in my parent's basement), but does anyone have a counter to my argument that Sony misses the small details in software that Microsoft gets right?lowe0
you mean like the detail that they should have put additional heatsinks and pipes in their hardware. doh, shoulda thought that one through a little better huh. almost like they need a research and engineering department. oh wait, they have one.

You mean like making a loud console and paying for online, and have unreliable hardware?
Everyone misses some small detail. Some people get them right, while others done.

Paying attention to detail and taking the time to think about how the user interacts with software make the difference between good developers and guys who just slap something together. For $600, I expect better than "good enough".lowe0
Yeah microsoft gets the little things right... when the 360 breaks it actually is programed to flash red lights... talk about the little things.

You update your oven online and then reboot it? interesting
