MS and Sony do NOT want to release the successors to 360 and PS3 anytime soon

As the thread title above says - MS and Sony will try to do everything to lenghten the life spans of their current consoles and delay the next-gen consoles further into future.

Despite pressure from some unsatisfied devs and gamers-alike, they do not feel they have to jump the ship and bring fresh consoles about.

It makes sense, really.

Their current consoles are profitable and why make a technically super-advanced device just to meet unrealistic expectations?

So you'll either have to game on the PC if you're an enthusiast or make-up with more than five years old tech.

Or have a look at the Wii-U.

Microsoft is already confirmed to be working on the successor to the 360, and if Sony really thinks the PS3 is a ten year machine they're out of their damn mind, especially with the Wii U coming out next year.

New consoles are coming, and soon. It's just a matter of when.

This. I expect a new Xbox in 2013, a PS4 isn't unlikely in 2013, but I think a 2014 release can be expected from them. It's really unbelievable, the 360 will be atleast 8 years old when its successor comes around. Funny thing is the 360 came ou when the Xbox was 4!

I personally am not looking forward to new consoles, but whatever the future brings.

I'm upgrading to handheld focus for next gen, anyway.

MS has recently denied they're working on any thing. Yeah, they probably do so behind the curtain, but they do not want to affect 360 and Kinect sales which are still their prime systems (besides Windows). Considering Halo 4 is comming fall 2012, It's quite possible there won't be a new console untill fall 2013 or even later.

Wasn't that the case with PS2?

And the delay was one of the reasons MS got such a big share of the market (the others being pricing, launch titles and dev tools).

I expect a big show-off from Nintendo but not from MS and Sony. Perhaps MS will hint on the next console but I'm seeing even more Kinect games for 360. While Sony will focus on Vita and PS3 games.

and some how people seem to be able to afford the latest smartphones,tablets, and upgrade to new versions.

I hope we get ALL NEW controller designs for all the new hardware. I need a change of pace. This FPS nonsense is getting out of hand.

They are all obviously working on the new consoles but they probably have had plans from them since the beginning of this gen, that doesn't mean that they are close to coming out. I believe a new xbox and Playstation will be out in 2013, about 2 years from now.

With the Wii-U coming they will want to release new systems. Whether or not they'll be significantly more powerful remains to be seen.

2013 is when I think at least one of them will have a new console out and of course both will be more powerful than the Wii U. How much more powerful...who knows.

It makes sense for PS3 but not for X360. The fact is Sony , as we speak is on a huge loss out of PS3. PS3 started being profitable , and by a small amount , almost 2 years. It really makes sense for SONY to want to fill that LOSS gap as much as possible. X360 on the other hand made a very good profit this gen , even with some million loses out of RROD probs , it ends up with nice profits , second on race, nice profitable internet service etc etc. I dont see why X720 not release into 2012.AzatiS

X720 will not come out next year. They need time to hype it and we have heard nothing about it. MS better not rush out a new console without hardware testing it b4 release like the 360 mistake.

2013 is unlikely, 2014 is probable. I might just stick with Wii U, current consoles and 3DS + Vita though.

Yea i agree. They may reveal it next year and then hype it up for a year. Can't wait to see what Sony and MS have to show. I am hoping I will be fine with only one console next-gen. Will probably come down to the PS4 or Nextbox. I was going to go with the Wii U but I don't trust Nintendo with Online or 3rd party support. Will miss the first party games though

I agree but dont forget 2 things.

1) There are many rumors around X720 latetly , do a google search youll find many articles.

2) X360 had a very nice gen compared to its rival and assuming was a success since profits were nice , why not do what they did with X360? Provide their console 1 year before PS4 release , aka same marketing and approach? We will see.

This gen is too old ..im glad Wii u releasing on time so pressure a bit the other 2 because 10 years stack with so outdated hardware? This is a step backwards for gaming imho. We will see

Unless the Wii U ends up being the Dreamcast of next-gen i.e. stuck between two generations, then MS/Sony will release their consoles a year after it.

It may be plenty room for next Xbox to come earlier than Sony´s console. Other hand Sony maybe not want make same mistake with 1year later and $600 price-tag.

For me this gen is not to old at all, i am happy with Sony. They release a console that last long, Nintendo released their Wii last this gen and they already feel the need of a new console. Just proves they made a bad console with short life.

Same time i am happy that Nintendo let there system be a console and not try turn it in to a media-center PC. I don't need facebook, twitter, TV-steaming, my mobile-phone and PC can do that and it is enough.

MS has already confirmed working on the next Xbox dude, and Sony has outlined their plans for the next one so I'd say the PS4 will follow suite.

I see Sony not releasing a new console until 2014. They've been hyping up PS3 and Vita similarities, and their compatibility. Also, Sony is still trying to make a profit from the PS3. Of course waiting until 2014 would doom Sony, but for some reason they'll think they can do it.

2013 I believe. But I can honestly say I can care less bout a new console. Wonder what the new gimmick will be.

im not ready for a new console yet, games are still blowing me away. Not until christmas 2013.

Maybe it is because the PC has spoiled me, but I'm not ready for new consoles at all.

Hell, the only reason I care about Wii U is for HD Nintendo games.

Do I want a next generation of consoles? F*** no. But If I'm going to get a new console anyway, I would prefer it be an Xbox since that's where I do most of my console gaming. My PS3 hasn't seen much use at all, except for Blu-rays and PS3 exclusives.

The sooner, the better. They will stop holding back the PC for a while at least, when that happens. Only technologically, though...because we will still get dumbed down games, especially now that they are going full casual mode.

as iv'e always been saying the new consoles will be shown sometime next year(doesn't have to be E3) and they will launch in novemberish 2013. i will feel satisfied with this tbh an 8-9 year long generation is perfectly fine.

ahh teh hidden potentials. honestly this gen is maxed in terms of what the devs can do with these consoles. you should be happy it took years for them to be tapped and is an indication of the tech they had when it launched. games like Uncharted 3, gears 3, Crysis1,2 killzone etc have maxed the systems. it's almost time for new hardware but i am enjoying my games i have now.

Considering the serious disadvantage that Sony had by releasing the ps3 a year after xbox360 came out, I can garantee they're are currently devoping the ps4 and will release it around the same time the new xbox comes out which will be a couple years from now. If not before the xbox is released.
