With a four year head start on the competition, Xbox Live has pretty much set the standard for what gamers look for in a console-based online service, and while the PlayStation Network is a fine service in it's own right and free to boot, it still has a long way to go to catch up with the numbers Microsoft's service is pulling in. Just ask Robbie Bach, the President of Entertainment & Devices Division at Microsoft. In an interview with the Los Angeles Times he displays supreme confidence in the superiority of their service.

It's fair to say that Xbox Live is clearly head and shoulders above anything anyone else has tried to do. We don't have competition. Sony has done some things online, but nothing that can be called a service. We have a big advantage and we're going to keep pressing that advantage.

I'd like to know why he and MS charge money for gamerpics and themes. After he addresses that, he can continue bragging.

Kinda cool how PSN covered in 1 year what took XBL 4 years to cover, XBL only has that 1 year advantage left and PSN is closing the gap. When, tropheys, home, in game xmb and soundtracks come it's squared even. Most of this by the time Spring rolls around SUPPOSABLY!

It's harder to lead than follow, and I remember the Playstation 2 having an online network so I wouldn't really call it a 4 year head start :|

Ps2 online was vastly different, each game pretty much built their own use for online, most notably Socom, each game had different friends lists etc.

That still constitutes an online network and Xbox Live had achievements, in-game dashboard and custom soundtracks since launch :|

I still think FREE is better. And the fact that Playstation Network games support more players is also a nice plus. I also like that the prices are reasonable for Playstation Network. Original Playstation games $5.99 original Xbox game $15. Themes, free on PS3, again Xbox fans get to pay. MS fans love to pay the money.

What you fail to understand or to state at least is the lag in which you speak of is mainly due to sub-par connections speeds because of the peer to peer gaming on live "which I freakin hate" I've been screaming for dedicated for live for quite awhile.

Don't you just hate it when Cows use that "they had a head start" excuse. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the PS2 came out before the original Xbox. And the PS2 had online enabled games. With that said, PS2 already had some online service but they wasn't competent and didn't really focus on the online aspect of a game. Microsoft on the other hand focused on the online service of a game and are just a few steps away from perfecting it. So since Xbox Live has been so successful and profitable, all of a sudden Sony desides to really focus on the online part. What a joke, so is the PSN. Play B3hind.

Did you know you can network your PC to the Xbox and download any theme you want and make it a back ground. And it's FREE ! Yeah, I can also stream and watch movies I downloaded from the internet through Windows Media Center for FREE. Can the PS3 do that..........Let me guess you're stuck with what ever Sony wants to give you. Sony fans love to get crap.

Actually it is true, not anything noticable atleast taht will deter you away from the game.

occasional hic-ups here and there, but you expect that with deciated servers also.

You can stream video, music and pictures from your 360 too. :|

And you can also set any image you like as your background.

EDIT: can you stream video from your PC onto your PS3? :? Mine wont.

That's not really a fair statement. While i'd take my PC over any of my consoles any day, you cant come out with a comment like that because really "PC online" doesn't exist. Every game is down to the developer. The quality varies from game to game. At least with consoles you have a set standard. You know the 360 will always have a gamertag, ranked games, social games, your friends list, voice chat yadda yadda yadda.

PSN can't even compare to Xbox Live! with all the features it includes, friend lists, downloadable content, achievments, gamer profiles, easy to use etc.

And for the love of Christ, stop saying Xbox Live! is a lag fest since you obviously have never played a single match in your natural born life.

Buuuuuull. That's complete nonsense. You'll never experience no lag. While i admit COD4 and Halo 3 in particular have some amazing netcode, you still get the odd bit of lag now and then. "No lag ever" as far as i'm concerned, has never occured. With any game. Ever.

Though cows like to chant "lag-free 40-player resistance!!" As if....

I'd still take PC's non-standard online gaming over XBL.

Depends on the file. You can using Tversity i think for AVI etc, because it converts it for you and then streams it. i assume with the update coming and divx suppportit will allow a direct stream without it.

EDIT: can you stream video from your PC onto your PS3? :? Mine wont.nicenator

Depends on the file. You can using Tversity i think for AVI etc, because it converts it for you and then streams it. i assume with the update coming and divx suppportit will allow a direct stream without it.

Meh. I'll just use the 360. Both fail in comparison to just playing straight off the PC with surround sound anyway.

Netcode for R:FOM had weird netcode that reminded me of that old line of SegaSoft games. It never felt like I had any lag but on the 40v40 matches I would see people's character acting as if they were in the throes of bad lad, moving erratically, in circles, etc.

I have bad problems with DOA4 and Gears. Oddly that SF2 game seems to work pretty well online.

I still think FREE is better. And the fact that Playstation Network games support more players is also a nice plus. I also like that the prices are reasonable for Playstation Network. Original Playstation games $5.99 original Xbox game $15. Themes, free on PS3, again Xbox fans get to pay. MS fans love to pay the money.player_leo

Sony fans love to get crap.

how do you do the free themes for the 360

He's pretty much right. Okay let me defend myself. PS3 online is pretty good for a free service, when I got my PS3 I barely even noticed a difference I was playing tons and tons of Warhawk and it's probably the best PS3 game out now. But then when Orange Box and Halo 3 came out I could tell there was a huge difference in functionality.. I only notice going between the two but chances are if you only have a PS3 you can't really tell and you are probably okay with the service considering it is pretty much what the PS2 online was like.

[QUOTE="Riverwolf007"]True, PSN is no compitition but XBLjust passed it's 5th year anniversary so what do people expect. That first year on XBL was pretty rough also if I remember it correctly.D3monchicken

So you're using the 'Wait till next year' excuse. By the wayeven afterone year Sony still hasn't got half the stuff XBL has. Sony isn't closing any gap, next year XBLis still going to be 4 years more advanced than PSN

[QUOTE="0bscurity"]Dedicated servers > talking to anonymous, annoying 12 year olds.mingo123

i barely get to play with those 12 years old...

Man, this statement could be taken out of context!!!!! :o

I still don't get what the Xbox live service provides that is so stellar it gets defended to the death? Of course I don't have a 360 yet, and when I do, i'll of course pay the $50 or $35 or whatever it goes for, but what is so great? Please someone tell me what it provides that is over and beyond playing online, because isn't that the only thing Silver doesn't get you?
