Neither PS3 nor 360 are replicating the success of the PS2 at this point.fuzzysquashhaha, finally somebody sees it my way
Speaking as a owner of both PS3 and 360 I must say that 360 has this gen down right. Everything MS touches pretty much turns to gold as far as good games are concerned. its been nearly a year later and my PS3 gets played once every 3 weeks and yes I have warhawk. But Gears, Madden 360, Halo 2 and COD 4 Beta take up most of my gaming hours and I play my 360 on a daily basis. I remember back when the PS2 came out it came out with good games every couple months like 360 is, as much as a lot of you may hate to admit, the 360 is the more fun console.MikeCOD80
2 thumbs down!

I have the same feeling, the only reel competitor with the PS3 is the PS2. Does people realize that if the PS2 was not on the market then the PS3 would be selling a lot better than it is now.

but the wii is
Yes, it is.
But does the Wii have the lasting power to sell at the rates its selling, when the 360 and PS3 come down in price and HDTV adoption spreads? I don't know, we'll see.
i have the 360 and ps3 and the ps3 gets most of my playing time.

damn straight.
the very fact that more people are deciding to buy a ps2 (even though it's been cheap forever now) instead of saving up (all the while the ps2 has been cheap) and buying 360's is pretty telling.
how much has the 360 sold this year?
Imo Halo 3is the big event of this year, Mass effect is a nice bonus for 360 users.
in terms of scope and quality i dont think anything will touch those games (par crysis) until next year.
on average the ps2 had more million sellers like GT, GRand theft auto and loads of over games even jak and daxter(3.5 mill) god of war, getaway.

Bingo! This gen is very underwhelming. The Wii is selling like the PS2, but doesn't have the PS2 quality games. I still have my heart on PS3 coming out and doing what is predecessor has done. Sony never lost a third party company in the mist of the high price system.
360 is the best system this gen (regardless of wii's sales) as it offers the most variety. The only problem is the rrod.

The games that are good... don't have enough variety for most gamers.

We have an action adventure game with dead rising. Three third person shooters with Gears of War, Lost Planet and the more tactical GRAW. A semi-platforming adventure game with Kameo, two racing games with PGR3 and Forza 2. A first person shooter with PDZ. A JRPG with Blue Dragon. A sandbox-oriented game with Crackdown. A fighting game with Dead or Alive 4. A simulation game with Viva Pinata. Not the mention the upcoming horde of games in which we have several JRPGs, at least two WRPGs, another platformer, another racing game, fighting game, heck; even a real-time strategy game.
Really, I have a hard time finding any genre that wouldn't appeal to any gamer in the realm of the Xbox 360. It has a well good variety which I personally think outdoes the competition. Which is kind of a no-brainer considering it has the most games.
And the shooter-only-console myth really needs to be put to rest. While the most successful games of the X360 tend to be shooters there's certainly many, many games that aren't shooters and are well noteworthy. One simply just has to dig deeper.
Isn't the Midas touch a curse? Atleast thats how the story goes IIRC.

Yea man, MS is just doing everything right this gen. Everything they touch turns to gold just about as far as games go
Doing everything right? Meh, till they get over with the faulty hardware issues I'd disagee. But of course, if you're speaking in terms of games (which I suspect you are), then yeah, they pretty much nailed it.

yeah they've"nailed it" for you probably
not until more titles like Alan wake, Lost odyssey and some really good Adventure game (banjo maybe?) are out will i be able to say they've "nailed it".
and this is only if they're good
then there's GTA(additional content),
i could've gotten a 360 when it first came out.
i've been "waiting" for mass effect halo 3, and alan wake for a long time now.

Well, I was including the future titles in that statement as well :P

It just hasn't been ou long enough, for someone who enjoys shooters, it's the place to be. But in TWO years we haven't had that much variety. I don't enjoy FPS, or games like Crackdown...that doesn't leave much for me spanning two whole years. Not saying the competition is doing much better, but it's obvious that the 360 is for one kind of crowd, a crowd that it caters to VERY nicely, fill it up with shooters, and sprinkle some other genres here and there. To me its NEVER going to enjoy the level of orginality as the PS1/PS2 had. BUT maybe that isn't the point, the people who like what the 360 offers REALLY thinks its THE console to own, for me the last two years haven't been too spectacular...PLEASE don't point out the PS3/Wii in response to this, i shared no opinions on them,Neither PS3 nor 360 are replicating the success of the PS2 at this point.fuzzysquash
different circumstances, the ps2 was practically alone for a while, the 360 comes from xbox 1, the first attempt at a video game console...so comparing the 360 is really far

the circumstances aren't different. The 360 is the second console from Microsoft, the PS2 was the second console from Sony. The 360 had a full year head start, the PS2 is regarded as having a year long head start but in fact was dealing with the dreamcast right out the gate. The only real difference is the PS1 was well received and the Xbox wasn't.

:| Did Midas not nearly kill himself by turning everything to gold and not being able to eat/drink, etc. and also turn his family into gold?
The 360 is a great console. Hardware issues would certainly be frustrating so I have to admit I've been lucky there and have had none and I purchased at launch. Microsoft also did step and offer an unpresidented warranty for consoles. That does say something about the company and stepping up for gamers. The PS2 wasn't exactly the top hardware I've ever had and I went through three of those and I wasn't even hitting it hard core; Sony didn't give me jack. The DVD drives were total crap. Yet it sold well and had lots of games so people bought them.
Halo 3 is going to be the big deal in the media and likely give Microsoft better than PS3 sales as a result. GTA4's delay is bad for Sony as many casual types may have naturally gone PS3 for that title and now Halo 3 (and the 360) sort of gets the solo spotlight. For those looking a bit closer they will find many other great games this holidays on the 360. The PS3 simply doesn't have the games yet compared to the 360. It's really hard to imagine any serious gamer owning a PS3 and not a 360. Just like last generation I could not have been without a PS2 even though the Xbox was still fun to play.

My post as well was an explanation of the variety of games among X360 games compared to the competition, and clearly X360 outdoes the competition so far. Not saying it has great variety, but it's better than what the competition has to offer right now.
