They have absolutely nothing to do with providing you with online play (keep in mind this only has to do strictly with online play).
Your ISP provides you with your internet service, and and your online identity (which you are already paying for), while you paid for the software that makes all of this happen (the game disk) AND the hardware you play it on. Almost all 360 games use P2P for online gameplay, so it is actually YOUR 360 hardware and internet connection that make online gaming possible, NOT MS, they have absolutely NOTHING to do with that.
NOW, if you were playing a game that used dedicated servers (very few do on 360, the only one I know of is L4D2) then you would have a point, but ONLY if it was a first party MS game (which it is NOT) . If it is a third party game, then yet again, MS has NOTHING to do with that, because the servers would be provided by and upkeep would be the responsibility of the PUBLISHER/DEVELOPER.
So basically, all MS is charging you for is the right to use stuff you already pay for. Basically like paying taxes, except MS simpily pockets the money, and it doesnt go to bettering the service at all which as MS has said themselves that they dont even need to charge for live but only do it because people will pay for it. I mean what do you think your going to just give up 1 billion dollars a year in revenues cause you wanna be "FAIR" to people?
oh yea, I forgot to mention, the developers see NONE of this money (around 1 billion a year, prolly more). Even if they go out of their way to give you dedicated servers (which they are fully responsible for) they dont even get payed for it!! MS is making all this money and you know what their doing on their end? NOT ****!
