MS will probably make a bucketload of profit charging $150 for an eyetoy (Kinect) and passing it off as something more, dont for one second think im trying to bash them as i love my 360 but you gotta admit its kind of sleezy to charge so much for Kinect plus $50 for games when its nothing more then an eyetoy.

There's nothing smart about releasing such an abomination with a ridiculous price specifically for the casuals. I don't know if you noticed but the economy still sucks and people still rather save money.

Also, most casuals already have a Wii for this type of stuff. It will be fun watching Kinect crash and burn. Burn! BURN!!!

Oh please it was all bought by the hardcore crowd anyway. Nobody is going to buy connect besides the hardcore fans at first but those sales aren't going to be nearly enough. It's going to fail just as hard as the Sega CD. Give me a break.

while I do agree kinect is rubbish I didn't realise the eyetoy had 2 cameras an infrared sensor and 4 mics.

I must be further behind with tech developments that I thought

I already purchased M$'s other Eye thingie (Vision cam or whatever), I think I'll skip this one.
Two different camera's the same generation, what's next, Kinect HD next year?

To be honest, I don't like Kinect's lineup, it's not for me.

Motion control, period, is largely a gimmick, with the exception of a few games that utilize it very well. I'm hoping to see a good amount of 360 games that are for the hardcore crowd, and I hope that MS doesn't just make Kinect games just for casual gamers.

Copy and existing product and outmarket it to make it look new and unique. This tactic has been used for a very long time in business. Why people defend Kinect is beyond me, it's clearly a Eyetoy pushed further ahead. And Kinect was merely made to crack into the casual audience just like Move. There's nothing about Kinect denoting a sign of what's to come, it's merely a way to grow MS's audience.

whats a ps3? a ps2 pushed further ahead. whats a ps2? a ps1 pushed further ahead...

Whats a cell phone? a cordless phone pushed further ahead.

so im guessing you dont own any of those products... seeing as how you are so against buying technology that is merely old technology "pushed further ahead"

I expected a flurry of people defending Kinect and saying "its more than that" or "you don't know if thats what its like STFU'. I am surprised and shocked at the acceptance everyone is showing at someone calling Kinect and expensive eyetoy. Sadly, I agree. It just seems like nothing more than a souped up eyetoy that can track your feet too, not just your upper body 9which the eyetoy does for only $30).

Too bad Kinect's trailers are highly misleading about the product. Yes it's ahead, but it's not so ahead that it justifies $150 for it.

Can the EyeToy detect your movements in a 3D space? Does the eyetoy have full head and body tracking capabilities? Can the eyetoy track the movements of individual bones within the same 3D space? If not then you, as well as the TC are way off about Kinect's capabilities.

"Microsoft is paying around $150 in total manufacturing costs for each Kinect unit, Develop understands.

A highly-positioned, trusted source had given Develop the "$150 manufacturing cost" figure on the condition of anonymity, adding that the expenses of Kinect is a topic of concern for his company."

http://www.develop-online.net/news/35198/Source-pins-Kinect-manufacturing-costs-to-150

so actually they lose a little money on the hardware and absorb all other associated costs.

Not really... as a business Microsoft is in this for profit. They will definitely profit off of it. It's a great way to fool casual gamers into thinking this is the new 'IT' product.

Move + Subcontroller = $80 not $100,but then again you don't need the subcontroller is optional unlike the Nunchuck wich in madatory in many games, and with motion plus cost the same as a subcontroller with Move $80.

Oh and the PS3 eye is $39 which is $110 less than Kinect.

A highly credible source (MS then self) claim that Kinect cost $150 to make,so MS would loss money taking into account shipping cost, the build in game which is like 3 more dollars just to manufacture,so they can see you happy.

Can any one even believe this.? Isn't this the same company who has abuse its user base to the max, with over priced PC peripherals, like HDD,Network adapters, live hell even the xbox 360 is over price, the slim PS3 with free online play and blu-ray, cost the same as slim 360,while the PS3 has shave $300 from its inicial price the xbox 360 has just loss $100 despite been a year longer on the market,oh did i forget to mention that MS was also the first to start charging $60 per game with no justification what so ever.? Because the 360 use cheap DVD,and most of its launch games were PS2 and PC ports.?

I ask again who can believe this.

we don't know if the accessory itself will net them any money.

there's been analysts/reports that say Kinect breaks even after manufacture and retail.

Sony's EyeToy/PSEye has an advantage that it's been out for years, so production costs are already down, and they can use that existing hardware with the adapted Move.

MS was going to do something similar with their camera (Wiimote ripoff that worked with the Live Cam, but they scrapped it from what I've read) however, that particular item(Live Cam) was overpriced, but I'd wager they'd cut the price to promote that tech if they had followed through with that over Kinect.

If Kinect was really an eyetoy ripoff, Sony would sue MS so fast it would even be funny.

So if Sony doesn't think its a rip then, why do cows believe it is.

Well it is basically 2 (or is it 3) cameras side by side, so it can work in 3d. But yeah, looks like a total rip-off and the games will be terrible.

sony even said they looked into kinect tech when they were in their initial stages of motion control development and didnt think it was viable.

gotta wonder why they were researching a new eyetoy when they already had the eyetoy... and why they concluded it wasnt viable, when they already proved it was viable by selling it for years!

sony didnt do it because they lack something microsoft has, which is software, microsoft has something in like everything, so they can get kinect to work with 360, PC, and tvs, without any problems and micrsoft can use it for advertisements.

plus sony doesnt really know how to market gaming products without the word playstation

Yeah, whether you want to give into the hype or not, this Kinect thing does seem innovative. I think it is far from an eyetoy. I prefer the regular controller over the motion stuff anyday, but you have to give credit where credit is due, and Kinect, if it lives up to the hype, is pretty unique. No controllers is amazing! The tech behind that has to be pretty impressive. We all knew Sony and Microsoft were going to jump on the $$ making bandwagon, but you have a choice, either get on, or get off. I'll wait for a while just to see how it goes, and invest in one about a year after release. That way there will be enough reviews in place, enough software available, and maybe a lower price point. I'm not going to knock it though.

and racing games on Kinect will probably suck, theres no pedals or anything to control the speed, its a herky jerky movement with both hands to do a "boost"
