MS raises price of Xbox in Japan for second time

The Xbox Series X/S is receiving another price increase in Japan, as reported by Famitsu. Starting August 15, the Xbox Series X will cost 66,978 yen, an increase of 7,000 yen from its current price. The Xbox Series S 1 TB (Black) will cost 49,978 yen, increasing by 5,400 yen.

Meanwhile, the Xbox Series S 512 GB will cost 44,578 yen, an increase of 6,600 yen. Microsoft notes the price change is currently for Japan only while it “regularly evaluates the impact of changes in market conditions on local pricing.” It’s the second price increase for the region – the last was in January 2023.

It also follows increases in Game Pass prices, with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate costing $19.99 monthly, up from $16.99. The regular Xbox Game Pass has been replaced with Xbox Game Pass Standard for $14.99 monthly, though day-one launches aren’t included, and PC Game Pass now costs $11.99 monthly (up from $9.99). Xbox Game Pass Core remains at $9.99 per month, but annual subscriptions now cost $74.99 instead of $59.99.

Dang.. thoughts, SW? MS is already struggling with Xbox in Japan, not sure why they would raise the price a second time.

Sony struggling to entice players to subscribe to PSN, but that doesn't stop them from continuously raising the prices either 🤷‍♂️

Well, in past weeks the xbox had a small boost in sales there because there was a rumour of this, seems the guy whose uncle works at Microsoft was right.

The Bank of Japan is raising interest rates for the first time in like 17 years.

Mostly due to weakening yen. For a while both Series X|S and PS5s were a bargain in Japan that those outside the country could save considerable money buying the consoles from a Japanese retailer and having them shipped.

MS is struggling to sell Xbox's in Japan, so they raise the price, yeah that'll work 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

Xboxes simply don't sell in Japan. Raising the price in Japan is a very obtuse thing to do, with all due respect to Microsoft.

The price of xbox in Japan doesn't matter. No consoles are sold anyway.
