if you are unhappy about paying to play, then change system where you can do it for free.

Ms doesn't care about what's moral for you, they just want to earn as much money as possible and if we let them do it, then their strategy is successful, sadly.

if us gamers are so willing to pay for online, then Sony and Nintendo will see possibly revenues for them, too and will likely follow Ms' path, sadly again.

If the 360's fanbase was like the Pc's, then such scenario would not be possible..

because Pc gamers know better than getting ripped off.

Consolites, me included, have to learn a lot from the so called "hermits", we're like getting anally raped again and again and all we do is fighting to protect our beloved console/s of preference.

I think this should end all the Microsoft bashing topics and do a personal mea culpa instead, cause it's our ( gamers ) fault if feed and overpay those companies' accessories/services/prodcuts.

360 users keep on paying for a service, Pc users said no to the Live fee and they ended up winning and now dont need to pay to play online. If all 360 users stopped paying for Live MS would ethier lower prices or make it free.

sony dont care either... i paid 500 bucks for a 60 gig ps3 it broke and they wanted almost 200 bucks to fix acommonproblem in those type of ps3s. sony forces updates on you that doesnt help you at all. most the time its to stop something that they dont like. instead of making psn better with psn + they give extra long demos and free game rentals of their choice. nintendo does it too. they sold the wii for 250 bucks for 3 years when the thing cost them 100 bucks max to make at launch. they are all out to make a killing from us...

Maybe its worth it for single system owners but for me my 360 is the only system that I don't do online multiplayer on because of the fee.

I don't mind paying 50$ a year, thats nothing. The only complaint I have about MS Products are, well, the products.

I hate having to replace controllers and battery packs and mics every few months.

I like how Microsoft makes it impossible to cancel your subscription if you payed using a Debit/Credit card unless you call them and demand them to take it off.

You would think you could do it through the Xbox or through their website, but their website just keeps sending you in circles. I have another 7 months with my XBL, but before that 7 months is up I am going to be calling to cancel my subscription

I don't see anyone **** about the US$180,00 per year for WoW, and I guarantee you it offers its gamers much less than what XBL does.

Other than that, it's a moot point: most people who pay for XBL don't feel ripped off -- in fact, a lot of gamers picked the 360 because it had a better service, albeit at a cost.

Lol, people don't pick a console because of the online service, and you seriously think XBL offers more content than WoW? You've obviously never played WoW, they add new content monthly on WoW that is worth hours of time.

Sounds like you're just trying to justify the price for XBL.

actually pc gamers have sent a message and now most mmos out there are free with cash shops.only the big ones have fees and only "the" big one gains tons of money.

what i dont like about live costing money is that ms is not asking,is demanding, if there was a silver live that allowed you to only play games (without the other stuff)then i wouldnt mind cause they would had options for all users, kind of like what sony implemented with psn plus ,and u see psn plus fail because people dont want to pay for features, dont mind what fanboys say ,people only want to play games online, and if thats free then why pay?

playing online in these days is essential for a gamer and by not giving the consumer a valid option ms fails on that part.

since we have strayed over into mmo fee territory i have to say that that argument is just as silly as the xbl one.

if you play an mmo for5 or 6 months then go back and buy all the games you normally would have after they have dropped in price you actually save money.

now that is not a 100% every time rule since some games take longer to drop in price but still it applies enough of the time to be a pretty valid observation.

I played WoW for two years, and those several hours aren't so long. The additions are nice, but don't justify their price tag.

I'm not justifying the price for XBL; it doesn't need to be justified. Microsoft offers you an optional service, which you can opt not to use even if you own a 360, and if you want to play online, it doesn't prevent you from getting a PS3 or Wii for gaming. No one is tied to the 360's Live, some people just rather have it: like myself. I can't stress out how I like their exclusive arcades and how many dollars I've saved from getting games on deals of the week (ranging from 50% to 66% off) -- this year I'd estimate is was more than what I payed for Live (USD$39,99).

Rip off just stop it. This 60 dollars gives you a year long gateway to what the other consoles dream of having with online gaming. Nexflix, twitter, online play, Last.Fm, doesn't matter if these things are available on PS3, Wii and the PC they are all integrated into XBL in one lump of gaming bliss that is light years beyond the dark age online gaming on PSN and PC. 60 dollars is almost undercharging.

MS mainstreamed Online gaming for consoles, XboxLive is a service, which is why Silver members don't get all the discounts, contests, and other options that gold members get. each game on xbox live goes through a xboxlive server, which can be a valid reason, and don't forget that there are lots of mods LOTS of them. than theres also maintance, than theres also working out some of the bugs, making sure each update works. there are tons of valid reasons, and stop going to the PC because PC online works differently.

PSN is sonys attempt to catch up to Xboxlive, is it cost money it would be harder for them, since they are going from free to pay which doesnt always work out

Should be 80$ imo.

It is absolute stunning. Play XBL then go back to PSN. The difference is noticable...

The download speeds, ACTUAL optional installs, Cross game chat, the integration.

Even XBL games are better. And btw Plus gives discounts to games... XBL does that already so...

The download speeds are faster. FACT.

Optional installs FACT. No 1 hour installs or 20 min installs.

Discounts was already done FACT.

Nice opinion about xbl games there. Also I used both PSN and gold and besides cross game chat the difference were not noticeable. I still can invite my friends easly and I can still play online easly.

Xbox live Gold is simply not worth the yearly subscription, I can stream Netflix movies free on my Wii.. And don't comment on HD, most Netflix movies are not streamed in HD to begin with. I don't need to surf the web or listen to last.fm on my gaming console, I have plenty of computers around the house. I could justify the cost if Microsoft let Gold Subs get freebie Arcade games every month. Is it a faster service than the Wii of PS3, yes BUT Nintendo and Sony's online services are just fine for online console gaming. Xbox live isn't some magical online service, it's mostly just a game matchmaking service, what the Wii and PSN have is perfectly acceptable for a home gaming console.

I don't know about that. But many PC gamers keep MS in their monopoly every time they buy a new Windows for the new DirectX. But since by technicallity it's not a monopoly, since that is a no-no and the same with XBL, it's optative, not sure what stand to take. All I know is that Microsoft is good at making webs.

[QUOTE="FIipMode"]Rip off just stop it. 60 dollars is almost undercharging.Metroid_Other_M
what..I don't even.. Pc online gaming is bad?

Well yea. didint you know if you dont pay for a service then its bad compared to the charged services :P.

None of those features even account for gaming. Undercharging?? Anything that hits me in the face with huge ads should pay ME. There are whole programs on PC that earns you money for clicking on their ads...and the threesixteh charges YOU for watching ads??? It's the reversed world when it comes to XBL. I really can't understand how people are tricked and scammed into buying XBL. Must have something to do with rufies.

you do realize that most of the people who complain about XBL on system wars are people who don't even own a 360 right?

or in some cases that do own a 360 but simply don't pay for XBL

ohthemanatee

Why would anyone who uses the service complain? That would make their system look bad.

Also I'm way ahead of you TC.

I don't mind paying 50$ a year, thats nothing. The only complaint I have about MS Products are, well, the products.

I hate having to replace controllers and battery packs and mics every few months.

Dude, I know it's a little off topic but your sig is friggin EPIC!

As for the topic itself, ehh I'd pay for Live for a month or something. $60 a year isn't bad if you use the 360 a lot for online gaming but if you don't, then I don't see why not just get it for a month if you need your COD/Halo fix.

I just switched over to PS3 this Xmas. After spending a few weeks with it, and playing on PSN, I am putting my xbox on ebay this week. I got a PS3 because of their upcoming exclusives, and M$'s lack there of for the upcoming year. The final straw was M$ asking for $10 more for LIVE. I know you can get it cheaper if you look for deals, but for me it was the principal of it. What the hell am I paying $50 for let alone $60?

What were you saying about respecting other peoples opinions in that other thread? I guess you don't like to practice what you preach...unless it's convenient for you, of course.

But whatever.

FlipMode, I don't consider Netflix and Twitter as major advantages, but I do understand where you're coming from. What I do count are the party system, cross game invites and game launching. I also have to say kudos to the XBL community managers as well as the policy enforcement folks. My wife and daughter wouldn't even play online if it weren't for the the GamerChix. I love that the policy enforcement head honcho is very active on twitter and participates in panels, even keynotes, at industry events. He and his team are quick to respond and react to larger issues that come up like the MW2 javelin glitch and the whole The Pro incident where they were upfront and transparent.

I agree that XBL is laid out very nicely on the 360. There's a whole separate Community section where things like the game spotlight and events are right there. Even the party system is built right into the DNA of the dashboard since it doesn't require a whole separate app to use. Once in a party, it runs in the background no matter that you're doing.... just like cross game invites.

Mileage will vary, but that's why I don't mind paying even though I have PSN and PC.

so what's the problem then? why is it that bother so many people the fact that XBL has millions of users?

M$ has nothing left. Paying for online + making Kinect their next gen system = fail (Sorry no Xbox720 for like in 5 years while Nintendo and Sony already have their system).
